As a child, I never understood the humor in this game, mainly because I skipped straight to the action half the time. Years later, I'm still amazed at how perfectly manufactured and targeted these games were to kids at my age. I'd do anything to have these games back, unfortunately, I'm pretty sure they were sold at a garage sale years ago before I moved. Great thing we have RUclips for some memories.
XandWacky Last I checked, Amazon sellers were asking for obscenely high prices for this game. Try eBay instead -- they seem to be going for more reasonable prices.
***** ..Mmm, but you didn't answer my question. *Why* is Pablo much like Fox or Meta Knight? I'm not good at them, the latter mainly because he is so light he flies like Kirby.
I always believed in that kid with the headphones. My very first time playing, we were struggling bad, but then he comes to bat, and proceeds to knock the ball out of the field and punches a hole through the International Space Station. I became a believer.
I remember carefully constructing my team (sometimes based on different themes, like an all-girls team), sitting back with a Lunchable and playing through whole seasons of this game. This, Backyard Soccer, and the Sims were my go-to games when I was a kid.

@JuniorAdventurer You'd be correct. To quote one of Ron's articles: "While at Humongous Entertainment we did some amazing things with SCUMM (Backyard (Base|Foot|Basket)ball) that it was never designed to do (and probably illegal in several southern states)" The scary thing is that this was written only a month before HE shut down.
The originals where always the best. Baseball and football all the way. Soccer and basketball close behind. We played these as kids all the time. And they are still a blast.
I'll bet that Ron Gilbert had no idea when he created the SCUMM engine in 1987 that ten years later there would be a baseball sim using it, not to mention a scrolling shooter, a Qbert clone, and a conveyor belt puzzle game.
@TheNyoronOfPwnage You're just a week older than I am! I got this game around 2001 when my neighbors had an extra copy they didn't need, and they gave it to me. My disk was given away when I thought I didn't want it anymore. I got the exact same feeling as you. I rushed back to Amazon and picked up another copy, as with pretty much all the other kids' games I owned. And here I was, uploading it, sharing it to the people who may have made that mistake or something similar to it like you.
In the original the only way to get a batting power-up is to hit a crazy pitch and make it on base. Later games also made it possible to get one with a double play.
I've never played any of the Backyard Sports games except for Backyard Football 2002 (which I still own). Atari and Humongous Entertainment has done an amazing job with all of their games. Playing them as a kid has given me a nostalgic feeling, and that's why whenever I get a chance, I'll play BYF. From what I've also read (and now seen), HE has released a few of their games on the iOS: Freddi Fish 3, Pajama Sam 2, Spy Fox, and Putt-Putt. Looking to buy Freddi Fish the most :)

I used to play this game all the time. My team is the Blue Giants with Jocinda Smith, Pablo Sanchez, Pete Wheeler, Keisha Phillips, Marky Dubois, Achmed Khan, Amir Khan, Demetri Petrovich, and Tony Delvecchio

@Hondo20132 I actually did some further looking into this and it seems that only Amir improves when you put both Kahns on your team. Achmed never changes. I guess this is because Amir seems to really look up to his brother. Another weird thing, his pitching always deteriorates when they're on the same team. Weird.
What the hell, I would of never guessed I'd see a Mr Show reference in a game like this. 2:32 has the character Ronny Dobbs, like the reoccurring character in that show. Which makes sense since the show was still going on when the game was released.
