    The candles and challah belong to the commandment to observe the Sabbath.
    As a Christian, our theologians have made the commandment to observe the sabbath and keep it holy, so abstract that they don’t think it’s important anymore. So I come to the orthodox Jewish women on RUclips, the ones who understand why they go to so much trouble to take a day off!
    Sara Malka’s channel Frum it Up shows us how she prays to bless her family and community at every step of the Challah making process in her Ultimate Guide video. 🤯Wow! This is such a paradigm shift for a Christian, that I think it’s hard to understand Shabbat without at least listening to what Orthodox women have to say about it. They have the “lab class” to go with the men’s “theory class,” if you will.

    • @613YY
      @613YY 9 дней назад +1

      While you are understandably enjoying learning about Shabbat it is specifically, from Hashem, not to be observed by non Jews. We have 39 categories of work not permitted on the sabbath. Categories. "Keeping the sabbath" is a wonderful and complex mitzvah. It is one of our Ten Mitzvahs, which are part of our 613? For us, all mitzvahs are important in our service of G-d, praised be He. Do you try to observe the rest of our 613?
      Non Jews, all people, have the 7 Noahide Laws, which are more like categories with additional guidance:
      Do not worship idols
      Do not curse God
      Do not murder
      Do not commit adultery or sexual immorality
      Do not steal
      Do not eat flesh torn from a living animal
      Establish courts of justice:
      Do non Jews put in as much effort into understanding the beauty and importance of the 7 they are responsible for to G-d?
      Not to say that non Jews aren't welcome at a Shabbat table, since many families invite non Jews though they can't bring anything which would dekasher a kosher house. In that way, we would not go to a non Jew's house for Shabbat. See the difference?
      The meals are part of the celebration of the holiday of Shabbat, as going to shul (synagogue) is. It's actually a special and private day to enhance our relationship with the Creator, what Judaism is all about. Not a 'day off'. We don't have nor do we need or want a 'day off' from G-d.

    • @elizabethl6187
      @elizabethl6187 9 дней назад +1

      @@613YY This is all good information, and I thank you for your reply. Of course, you may not share my belief that Christians are under a new and different covenant. That would be understandable. We number Ten Commandments, and while we don’t have specific rules anymore, for more than fifteen hundred years we understood that Sunday was our Sabbath. Stores were closed, secular amusement was restricted, etc. But we have forgotten why this was, and I don’t believe that all of our commandments are still morally true, God-given for our blessing, except that one which is to be casually disregarded. But if I have to discover the meaning for myself, I have to go back to the beginning and learn what it meant at the beginning. It is more than a day of rest (a day off), I agree!
      I’m trying to learn.

      I'm going to think on this..... there is something very deep being expressed here.... in the space between these two comments.... we must be deeply on same "side".... "aligned".... aware of the others' strengths weaknesses and potential....
      Shabbat is only for those unafraid of seeing how we, the human sausages, are made....

      @@elizabethl6187 G-d made no covenant with you. One covenant. With Jews. No revisions by G-d blessed be He.
      By what authority did men believe they could revise G-d's covenant with us?
      By what authority did the Torah get "revised" to a "NT" that was only written by men? Is that chutzpah?
      Non Jews say the "Word of G-d" a lot though not meaning it. Or you wouldn't challenge us as too often happens. G-d told us. Shared levels of meaning with us. Told us to share with you. Not debate or defend the Torah with you.
      G-d praised be He shared Himself, Himself, with Jews with the idea that we share the Torah and Him with the world. Every letter, every word, every repetition of words, is explored and given attention to, since it's all from G-d. Precious to us. Not to you. Exoecting us to in any way abandon or accept anything about your bible is absurd.
      Shabbat has always been Fruday noght to Saturday. Your idea of a sabbath is your own, not linked to us.
      We know that, whether knowingly or unknowingly, non Jews make contributions to perfecting this world for G-d. The more you learn about what G-d wants from you, the better off we all are. G-d created you to be you, not us. There's value in all of us as we are.

    I kind of disagree. I think moral actions are what matter the most: unity, gratitude, understanding reality, treating the neighbor as you want them to treat you. I know that In religious fanatism, for instance a big part of Catholicism and Islamism have many sort of amulets, believing in mistic power that mere things have. Such amulet-ish belief sometimes makes them believe it is more important to carry an amulet, than to obey G-D's commandments, which I consider ignorant, sometimes evil, that's why I disagree.
