- London's Tate Modern has opened a new installation that is supposed to evoke "forced empathy." The installation has a "crying room" that produces vapors that make those inside cry. We visited the installation to see if it could make us feel a sense of empathy.
See more info about the installation here: www.tate.org.u...

@WillowTortilla yeah sorry I got it all wrong what was it thinking everyone rolls around in art exhibition amrite?
One of my abstract painting was hanging on the wall at an art exhibition back when I was in school. This one person approached to my painting and said it has such a strong power that it makes her feel very emotional in a sad way. I couldn't tell her that I painted it while I was eating potato chips and was thinking of what to eat next.

Once upon a time artists, filmmakers, poets, authors moved their audience emotionally with their artwork which made them cry, laugh, love...Today these 'artists' use vapour and chemicals to 'force' people cry and then 'explain' their work with long lectures. And Tate and other galleries applaud them. Bravo.
Yes. But this concept piece does exactly what you say.
Its an excellent artistic observation on how, in the 21st century, everything can be and will be manufactured.
Why think when you can have Siri?
Why socialise when we have Facebook?
Why face your problems when we can numb ourselves with pills?
Why feel empathy and weep when an eye irritating vapour can do it for you?
So take the whole situation of modern humanity, compare it to what we are becoming; the tears of compassion will flow for what we have lost.

They both missed the whole point and purpose behind the crying experiment. It was to feel empathy when you see other people cry not when you feel and see yourself crying.

Thermal floor exhibit. They mention it later in the video.
Bc he's awesome
The “cry room” is just my bedroom because I cry so often
I wonder if the camera man was crying🤔
Well what do you think
Maybe if they had really sad pictures in the room, but staring at a blank wall while my eyes burn won’t make me feel any type of way. 🤔
Looks Like Magic pano mo nasabe
The exhibit is about feeling empathy when others cry.
Background of 2:13 weird guy on floor. Looks drunk.
I think he’s doing the handprint thing
Hes printing hiself lol
Sir SunnyRoo its the thermomic floor thing

Sir SunnyRoo he’s trying to transfer his body heat to the floor
Well it forces your eyes to water. Not cry or feel sympathy.
*Patrick Star* *empathy..
Positive biofeedback loop. Even if you didn’t start crying because you felt emotion, you can start to feel more emotional because of the tears.
One thing I've learned for sure is that you can't cry if you don't have eyes
O your tear ducts aren’t in your eyeballs. They’re on your eyelids’ top and bottom waterlines, close to the corner. If you look closely, you can see tiny holes there.
Technically I never said eyeballs, but now that I think about it when I say eyes, does that also include the eye sockets or holes?
I went on a field trip to the Art Institute in Chicago when I was in 3rd grade. I saw a painting that was literally just paint splatters in a circle, and I felt something. My group was yelling at me to join them because I was just a little girl standing in fron of this painting, staring at it. I starred at all the colors intertwining and envisioned a man splattering everything on in the most angelic way. I felt a pang in my heart when my teacher pulled my wrist away from the painting so I could catch up with my group.
I dont remember the name of the painting or the artist, and I honestly wish I remembered what it was called.
I’m confused
I have been in this room... It smells like Olbas but ten times stronger, and it took me a little while before I could take full breaths, because it burns your lungs.
bert1029, uncomfortable probably 😣
Not really. I just thought I would put this as a warning to anyone who visits this installation.
bert1029 Did you cry?
Yes.
bert1029 When you were crying, did you feel any kind of emotion or any sadness as described in the video?
But how to stop crying ?
That's a profound question. There is enough crying in the world. This "art installation" is pointless.
nerdpanda bobo
close ur eyes
yes so true
@@howtubeable If the art installation is pointless, then your saying creative art is pointless? The project has a meaning, like say, the lady in the video said, if you saw a best friend crying, wouldn't you go and comfort them? The project is about feeling empathy for others.
Seeing them all cry made my eyes water and in turn made me cry
Seriously . A room for crying 😂😂😂. Come to my house the smoke from the firewood will make you cry.
I was in this room today and it physically hurts! As soon as you walk in ur eyes burn and cry.
The room is filled with a chemical substance to force people cry. What is life.... I still can’t believe it’s called an“Exhibit” 😂😑
I have been here shape of light exhibition we were on a school trip and we were drawing from the artwork and getting inspiration I also went on grey floor and crying room it’s so cool!! they add peppermint to the room☺️
I imagine psychopaths like to chill here to blend in

*jokes on you guys, i already cry 24/7*
As soon as I saw them start crying - my heart dropped and my eyes watered. Idk why I'M NOT EVEN IN THE ROOM
1:54 that guy in the back is me. Lol 😂
The idea of this artist is very interesting. First, she's making the spectator a part of the work, making them almost the work itself with their crying and their footsteps. She creates a situation of forced participation. It stops you from being a simple by-standard in order to explain, representing that there's no other way that we could think about the issues on our own anymore. The most interesting piece is the crying room in my opinion. You enter this blank room, with nothing to cry about, but you do. It must be a weird sensation just to cry without a reason, without the desire from our own soul to do so. In a sense, it can help you clear your mind, your body, maybe even help you consider what you should be crying about right now. It gives you the opportunity for introspection.
The situation differs if you were with others though. Crying is an intimate experience and sharing that with friends or strangers can create a weird kind of bond. If we see someone crying, we feel them compelled to do something because that's our instinct. The artist is using this to express her point, how we should empathise more, care more about others, open ourselves more. Here crying is also used as a mechanism to criticize our lack of true emotions anymore. We create facades online, one day we care about one thing and the next week we have forgotten that it even existed, we tend to care only about our own interests. In this installation, you are reminded that you need to feel deeper, care about others, take your mask off and experience one of the rawest emotion's humans can feel.
How to save time of going there: just go to that small corner of your room at 2:00 am lol
I don’t know if I’m the only one but if I think of something sad I can make myself cry.

The little boy falling down..
Edit- in 2:12 why is that man lying down on the floor...🤣🤣
He's transferring his heat to the floor to make the thermal print they talked about
“have a good cry once a month”
sis i have a good cry every day
2:12 that guy in the back is a phat mood
I bet I'd be balling my eyes out there, cause watching these people "Cry" made ME cry...
2:12-2:20 was anybody else super distracted with that random guy laying down on the floor in the backround? and at 3:30 the people in the backround? like if you noticed
I just watched a whole season of this anime and I cried so hard I still have tears in my eyes
I went in it didn't make me cry
There's a difference between watering eyes and crying. When I'm cutting onions I'm not actually having an emotional response....
Who needs this?
When you have...
*Infinity war*
so true
1:53 The guy who just lays on the floor is such a mood😂
Three comments saying first 😂🤣
Hey ! My fan I guess!!
empathy don't come from forcing, it comes naturally as a child from young
*or maybe I could just think about my life*
clicking on this video actually made me cry
like my eyes started to water just by clicking and looking at the first girl cry
oof?
Why everyone walks like zombies? Creepy
You know what?, This would help me out. Because if i'm crying and feeling lonely i'll just go there and pretend that the room makes me cry so i wouldn't get annoyed if someone asks me why are you crying. Good job myself.
Big sad
When we(Muslims) go to kabba(house of Allah), it makes our emotional level so high, it makes us cry, love and forgive everyone for everything. This is real beautiful feeling, that's beautiful crying
Yeet
Wait what’s highlighted mean?
I just make myself cry by remembering how lonely I am and how single I am
Jake Paul needs this
Iol yeah
I would start laughing hysterically as tears roll down my eyes. Some people cry while happy, I laugh when I'm sad.
Maybe it smells.like.onion
That’s actually such an interesting concept.
@A S And WHAT chemical? And even if something is toxic anyways, it can still be iteresting, like, say radiation is interesting.
Just watching this I started to cry
Bold of you to assume I need this room to spontaneously burst into tears
the whole time i was watching this my eyes watered
1:23 THE KID SLIPPING IN THE BACK I CANT😂😂😂
First girl has one of the most beautiful eyes ❤️
This video made me cry.
I don’t know why but I started crying in the middle of the video
It's basically one of that room in that one area of a mall or building that makes your eyes on fire
I have quite a hard time trying to cry...so maybe I'll try this room out when I travel the world.
i visited here not too long ago, it’s such a good place to visit
The guy in the background at 2:13 is me when my mom tells me to get up for school in the morning 😂😂
i don’t need a room to make me cry , i cry at everything .
2:13 the guy lying down is my mood right now
2:12 what was the guy doing in the background??
1:53 that random guy that lays on the floor 😂😂😂
I doubt that this would work on me. I cried all the tears a human could cry in a lifetime already
2:15 the dude lying in the floor and then turns over 😂
*_what happened to the girl in the yellow at _**_2:24_**_?_*
That kid lying on the floor @ 1:53 is my mood
Main reason for the exhibit
Looking at people cry for no reason and let them cry,
And ofc laugh
perfect for when you want to make an emotional movie
watching this made my eyes watery
2:13
*life be like that sometimes*
-The guy on the floor- lmfao 😂
1:55 That guy on the left looks like he's having a good time.. 🤣
I actually went to London that day! Now I wish I went there! Lol!
This is also a science lesson like I never Knew that crying was a sense
Those close-up shots of their faces reminded me so much of oblivion
2:13 In the background has me dyingggg😂😂😂
is it just me or at 1:53 to 1:57 there a guy lying on the floor in the background?
Jenna Meadows it’s just you
For some reason I started tearing up once I saw them crying 😢
i wanna see a museum where everything is clipart and stock images and all the art labels and descriptions are in comic sans
The reason the man was lying on the floor at (2:14) was that the room's floor reacts to body heat, and he was trying to make a full body thermo-print (:
