you could have the same soil in the ground. dig a pit, line the pit, make your bed, now you have an inground bed with good soil that will stay more temperate soil year round.
Yes, that could probably work as well. I prefer raised beds because the elevation is a little easier on my back. We also just don't have the necessary gear to dig up our yard like that (we have 7 raised beds, so I wouldn't want to have to dig all those pits). But to each their own,

The treated lumber will corrode the metal. Polyethylene foam strips between the wood and metal will prevent this.
Good to know. We've haven't seen any corrosion yet, but our oldest beds are only a year old, so it could still happen. Thanks!
