- This video shows you how to reformat your SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD so that you can transfer files directly to/from your smartphone and also use it with your pc or mac.
Very helpful. Thank you for the short but informative videos.
Just came across your video. Wanted to add that I was able to reformat using my Android device, without needing a Windows or Mac computer.
how did u do that? pls let me know. thanks.
How?
When you connect it, a message comes up about unreadable media, asking whether you want to reformat it. Do that, and it becomes readable. This may not work on older versions of Android.
@@GordonMoat OK Sir, my phone's android version is 6.0.1. Will it work?
@@anant810 I think you need Android 9.0 minimum.
Thank you so much for your videos. Yours are the only ones I can understand and are simple to follow.
Thank you so much for making this video. You should work for dandisc as they don't send any instructions 👍🏻
Do you have a video showing how to reformat it on a Macbook Pro?
Can you please do a video on how to do that on a android phone.
Thanks for the help! Much appreciated 😊
For my iPhone I had to download the SanDisk iXpand app. Learned I can choose to download photos by date/month/alpha. Then I can choose individual photos using “select”; also can select “Videos” only; and can with one click choose an entire month. Nice way to sort. But now.... when plugging in the SSD to my computer, I cannot get my Windows 10 to recognize the SSD at all. I’ve re-booted, re-plugged but all my external drives show up except the SSD. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks Nabeel for answering my previous question!
Thank you so much for this video. You're a life saver
Where have I been living, I need this in my life I have so much on my phone 😆
The Sandusky comes with software. So you delete everything aka format?
I don't understand what exfat is but if I format a external ssd to that so I can transfer stuff from my phone will I still be able to store my steam library on it and not have any problems?
Need the answer as well
Why do I need to reformat it before transferring the files?
Thank you so much. I did it!!! You made it easy 👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks for Sharing!
Thanks for the video this was very helpful
My OnePlus 7pro recognized that my SanDisk Extreme SSD 1TB plugged to it, but but it does not show it as an option to move files to. I flowed these steps and it was already on ExFAT. Any help?
Why did you change it to exfat? I have an iPhone and an Android and I need to use both with it through my PC so what do I put the format on? And do I need to format it if it's new?
My portable SSD isn't showing up where the "devices and drive" are but its being recognized as plugged in at the bottom right.
Same here. You fix it already?
Thank you so much 🙏🏼💙
I have the 1TB version purchased off Amazon on December 1st and it came already formatted exFAT
Same! and it worked immediately on both pc and android galaxy.
Is the format ExFat can useful too for any format video ??
so if I format my ssd to exfat, will my phone detect the ssd without using any third party app on my phone ?
Yes it should
Okay, but, why I have to do that before to transfer the information?
Can you use this for games off steam
What's vault facility?
Further more I want to edit some gameplay footage from my ps4 on my S10e. I can transfer it via otg but the files are too large as well as my phone storage is almost gone. Can I store multiple video files 4Gb and up and edit them from this drive with my cellphone???
Would i be able to reformat the SSD Sandisk from my android phone?
Awesome sauce thanks a ton 😀
thank you very much much needed
hello, need help here. just recently bought sandisk 1tb extreme, plugged it to iphone 11pro max and worked right away (with all the required adapters of course), was able to transfer files from iphone to sandisk. then i plugged the sandisk on windows 10 pc after to transfer some more pics, and worked perfectly also. But when i plugged it back to iphone, its not recognized on files anymore. i checked the format and it's already on exFAT.
Hello . . . Prior to format, should I complete the security password protocol first? I do not have the SanDisk drive yet, as I have ordered it, but it hasn't been delivered, thus the question . . . Thank you in advance.
You will get the security password program with the fresh ssd so you don’t need to worry it will come with no password when you get it y
can i use it in my android phone without reformat in pc..? i hope u answer my question, because i planing to buy this crazy thing,. thank you in advance,.
According to commenter Gordon Moat you can, but I haven't tried it myself.
@@ItsNabeel wow, thank you for your response im really appreciated, i have 1 questions, why you need to reformat before you use it in android phone,.? t. y
If we format it in exFAT wld it support on both pc and smartphone (android) and what about 1tb ssd as i am planning to buy 1tb variant instead of 500gb
1tb should work the same and yes it will work on both Android and PC
@@ItsNabeel there will be speed differences in exfat vs ntfs for this ssd?
interestingly mine was exFAT out of the box. i changed the allocation size to 128kilobites though as that is more important.
why is that you changed the size?
@@pennymoutzouris8112 i think it was so that i get more memory efficiency out of it.
It did not work with my Samsung Galaxy S10+. Does anyone have any advice before I call Sandisk? Also once I transfer photos to the Extreme Portable SSD from my PC, it only lets me view one photo at a time without the scroll option on the SSD while using the PC. I have to close each photo then click on the next photo. Any advice on this issue also? Can you suggest a good app to use on the PC for viewing photos?
i formatted to apfs first and now it only gives apfs as options to reformat....im on mac, help?
I clicked that subscribe button! This really helped
CoachMrFoster thank you!
After re-formatting to xFAT, can photos - in addition to being copied/cut from a phone - also be copied from a computer where the photos may be in a format other than xFAT?
Lee Warner yes
Just got a portable SanDisk extreme pro 500gb,works on my shield,my buzz tv 4500crs box,and my computer.. formatted it,but does not work on my Samsung Note 9..Any suggestions?
It doesn't show up in your My Files app as external USB device when you connect it to your note 9?
Will this be applicable to Samsung SSD ?
Hi Nabeel! Thanks for your video. I've tried to reformat my Sandisk Extreme SSD 1TB to exFat, erased the vault as consequence, yet it's still not detected by my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Would you share if there is any solution to this? Thanks a lot!
same with me
Here also
is there any solution to this? My 1TB Samsung T7 is readily connected but 1TB SanDisk Pro refuses to be recognized as an SSD!
I saw a video that advised to format it to ntfs and did that. Now i'm confused. Help! ;p
This doesn't help you keep the drive password protected nore use the vault that comes with the drive, therefore no security.
If I reformatted with the documents that came on the drive, have I lost the vault forever and the supporting documents?
I have the same question, because I think I just deleted the documents 😬
Is this working on any hdd?
You might want to mention that it needs to be connected directly to your computer, not to a USB hub, or it won't be seen. Many of us have USB hubs these days because of how stingy manufacturers have become with built-in USB ports.
There was no format in that window don’t know if I screwed up it go to an update
If I reformat will I lose the vault facility ? Or do I need to copy and paste this back to the drive after formatting ?
what is vault facility?
Sleepami it’s where the hard drive allows me to use a password to protect my saved files.
Can I format ssd on my android?
what if I have a mac computer?
What about mac? Please.
Can you sill download your Files to your pc
Roland Hamid yes
DOES NOT WORK ON MY PC DOES NOT EVEN POP UP
ONLY HERE THE SOUND WHEN IT PLUGS UP
It doesn't work on a MacBook
I pulled this from a website called Techwalla.com "Use Disk Utility to Format an External Drive
After you connect an external drive to your Mac, open the Applications folder from the Finder window. The Disk Utility application is located in the Utilities sub-folder. Launch Disk Utility and then click to select the external hard drive listed on the left. Click the "Erase" tab, choose a volume format from the drop-down menu and then type a name for the drive. The Mac OS X Extended volume format is optimal for Macs; the Journaled option enables the system to log and keep track of files. The MS-DOS FAT32 or ExFAT volume formats are compatible with Windows computers." www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-format-a-hard-drive-in-mac-os-x
