I was only vaguely aware of Monique before I watched Precious. Halfway through it I had to stop the movie and look up who the hell was delivering this mindblowing performance... I was shocked to realize it was her, the comedienne! Hers is easily the most real acting performance I've seen in many years. I am SO glad she got the academy award. And Precious is amazing.
@MsKitkat26 It's obvious that she was on a cut break to talk about her character. So technically, she's still in character which is why you may have noticed the discolored teeth...
I felt confident and scared that I hated mary so much. I actually cared about mary. She needs to change her ways in this movie because she was mean to clarice. It's scary to think that other people are living this right now somewhere in the world.
@MsKitkat26 Far as the bush under her arm pits, that is a reality physical thing she got going on...lol thats no secret. The whole world knows that she does not shave under her arms nor anywhere else for that matter XD but I was speaking on the teeth alone. Mo's teeth are never caught yellow in the public's eye.
She was very convincing. Throwing the down syndrome baby and trying to throw the TV and kill precious, she actually made me hate for a while lol. And i'm still reluctant towards the oscars because many notable black actors/actresses have yet to win an award.
i disagree, you have black actors in major movies, tv shows, doctors lawyers, superheros - this movie is important, it shows us kids there is a place to go, there are alternatives and most of all there are ppl there who are kind and can love you - thats real.
There are mothers in India that SELL their own daughters to the sex slavery.Selling their shit for a DOLLER!! There are a lot of fucked up shit in this world. I would be shocked to find one person on this planet that hasn't been molested.
"Mental illness, she has it" lmaoooo
I own the book and it's a work of art. The story was very painful but most certainly couldn't put the book down. In my eyes the book is a must read.

'it's victorious'. I love how Mo'Nique paused and was thoughtful before she said this. She wanted to get it right, and she is spot on.
I think the acting by all in this movie was amazing and especially the woman monique who plays the disturbed mother very well acted by all
wow i love mo'nique ,so real,very uplifting ,speaks the truth

Black Balled
I was molested when I was younger and after having to watch this film twice, I did walk away with a sense of release and optimism.
Who?
omg..i said the same thing after seeing precious
@TheProductofsociety That is not sick because it is one of my favorites as well.
@bklynleo887
I wish you all the healing in the world.
@olskoolrich 3-6 Mafia deserved the award....without a doubt
Hmm.. good point there.

I agree. I don't like Monique, but her acting really was good.

@olskoolrich
A romantic comedy will never win an oscar .. black OR white.
Does she really look like this without makeup or is she just in character as Mary?
She’s in character

Yeah she sure did 'win' in the end.....
She had 2 kids (one with down sendrome), HIV, no GED, and no job.
Very victorious Monique, very....
