Please do more of these longform history videos! You're great at relaying interesting facts while being funny as heck. As someone else said in their comment, it would be good if you also mentioned the pros/cons/requirements/responsibilities involved in caring for a particular breed, so people remember there's more to it than just a pupper that looks cute on instagram 😬
Okay, right? I'm so tired of people getting dogs because "they're so cute" and not being willing to put in the effort it takes to train them properly. Especially when it comes to working dog breeds (which are just about all of them, btw). These animals have generations of worker instinct that doesn't just go away because this particular dog wasn't raised that way. You have to give them proper training based on their breed so they have an outlet for that energy, or they start having nervous issues and acting out. It's like there's something they KNOW they're supposed to be doing, and it stresses them out when it doesn't happen.
Love to see one on the differences between malamutes and siberians, mekenzie river huskies etc...Im from AK & I feel like everyone throws them all in the same basket when they're very different looking & bred for different purposes. Love this channel & never get tired of these videos. Its what the internet needs more of.
This was great. Please do more. I would like it if you mentioned any down sides to any of the breeds. I think too many people get a dog because it's "cute" or "kick ass" and then abandon them because of the extra care they may/will need. It thought I wanted an Irish wolf hound, and then I learned about their short life span and the joint problems that they may have...
Oooooh he should do a video about Irish wolf hounds! Their history is pretty cool. All giant breeds have short life spans, unfortunately. Their size causes so many health issues. Otherwise, Irish wolf hounds are amazing dogs. I understand them to be calm, gentle family dogs. If you want a dog with a long life span, nothing beats a chihuahua! They can live to 20 or even longer. It's hard to find one that hasn't been inbred like crazy in puppy mills though 😥
And caution on dogs that need lots and lots of ongoing training and management. .. a neighbor allowed her rescue Tibetan mastiff to get out and it attacked my 10-yr old niece in her own garage. My niece has grown up with a lab - she wasn't provoking the dog. The attack was instant. Fortunately her aunt and uncle were nearby, and able to distract and contain the dog to disrupt the attack. Niece is fine - just stitches, very luckily.... But people need to understand the amount of work and care required to keep certain dog breeds.
I really like the history delivery. I think we all need more pictures of the dog being researched. I love that you picked a breed personal to you for the first one.
I always enjoy your short, funny, dog themed videos, but this long form informative style is even better. Would definitely love to see more history of dog breeds videos from you.
I had a Samoyed many years ago. He flatly refused to be put on a leash and he'd flip out. However, he always stayed in the yard (I don't know how he knew where the boundaries were, but he managed it!) and we could walk down the street with him never leaving my side. Just. Don't. Put. A. Leash. On! LOL I miss him terribly. R.I.P.
I am owned by an elderly chihuahua. He bit me in a park for no reason, then convinced me to take him home from the shelter. 10 years later, he still will not acknowledge me if I speak English to him, no, it must be Spanish. He is the most loving, loyal and STUBBORN dog I've ever met. Love him. And I love your dogs series!!!!!
You’ve found a great original niche. Comedy combined with dogs, bit of education here and there and you’ve hit the trifecta. I hope you enjoy creating as much we enjoy watching. In the spirit of Star Trek, ‘May you create long and prosper ‘. Keep it up mate. Love your work.
Hella clean, indeed! Ours was an Iowa farmdog and was never any other color than pure white. Nicki LOVED the subzero (°F), would frolic and run on snowdrifts during real Iowa blizzards, telling us what truly great weather it was!🥶💙
I have been a big fan of all of the videos you have posted. When I seen this was 10 minutes I was worried it would be too long. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The time flew by and I laughed a lot and learned some new things. Great job! I look forward to seeing more dog history in your videos ❤❤❤❤❤
Growing up we used to have a Samoyed. She was a stunning girl we named Sasha. Ultimately we weren't home enough to have a dog. Plus we lived in Las Vegas which is the opposite of her ideal climate. We were able to find a family that lived up in the mountains. She got to frolic in the snow all Winter up there. ❄ Her coat was so fluffy and white. Loved that dog so much.
My first dog owned as an adult was a Samoyed and Golden Retriever cross. He LOVED the snow! And shed horribly 😳 Balou looked like a buff colored GR with a curled tail. And he was huge. He averaged 80 pounds. My husband and I used to joke we could knit another dog from his weekly shed. 🤣
@@FoxSenpie I wish...my giant malamute hates being brushed ...she hates water so ...she hates baths ..she's also over a hundred pounds and it takes two.. she's also vocal so she sounds like she's dying...all the same , we manage..😄😂😆🤣🤣🤣
I have recently been down such a weird rabbit hole for dog breed origins and I’ve been super into Russian history lately too so this was actually amazing thank you so much
We attended a dogsled race years ago.we watched team after team of huskies dashing by. Then we saw a vision of white. A team of Sammies prancing by. The musher looked up and said “ We’re not fast but, damn , we look good.”
I just found your videos tonight and watched way too many. I look forward to you telling more dog breed histories because honestly this was amazing and super educational.
I think it's very important to know your dog's breed history, or at least their group. I learned very quickly than owning a terrier type is very different to owning a herding type. Levels of independence, drive, abilities, size all vary across the groups and leaning your training towards your dog's natural instincts for that breed group will leave you both much happier
No kidding!!! My Aussie came to me from an old lady who wanted a couch potato to watch tv with her. You can just imagine how well that went! An Aussie is one of the last breeds to keep in a small studio apartment with no yard just because they’re pretty.
My parents had a mixed sheppard and a mixed terrier and they didn´t get along, like ever. At a point they had to keep them appart because the terrier attaked the sheppard and they almost killed each other. The trainer they had, told them that Terriers would never let go their prey, even if it killed them, so they would never be able to get along after that. It was sad because we loved them both, but they could never figure out how to get them together without them hating each other.
Agree. I have horses and dogs and love all of them, but always keep hunting dogs, as they have little interest in herding horses. That way, we all get along😊
Years ago I had a friend that had a Samoyed named Baby. Wonderful dog, full of love, cuddles and a great disposition. One day Baby ran away, and could not be found around the neighbgorhood. My friend went to the pound to see if Baby was there, and she was so pleased to see her beloved fluffy cloud bouncing with happiness to see her. About a day later my friend noticed that Baby didn't act the way he usually did, and appeared not to remember the house, acting as though he'd never been there before. She determined that Baby wasn't Baby. But of course she loved this dog (how could you not!), so she kept him. She called him Minetoo. I thought that was a cute name. And yes, Baby did have a collar with a tag, so whoever found him must have adopted him. I think my friend saved another cloud dog from being caged or worse.
I expected to enjoy this video because I really love Jonny's previous ones about dog breeds. What I did not expect is to watch 10 entertaining and educational minutes. Thanks Jonny! 👍😂 Thor's History is a great indeed! 👍
Definitely the most entertaining history lesson I've ever heard! 👍a video series teaching where all the different dog breeds came from is the RUclips channel we didn't know we needed, great job, can't wait to see more 💯
Ernestt Shakelon was there before everyone else. He was there in 1908. He went with 4 men only Shakelton survived by walking across Antarctica. I read his book on his amazing trials. Great reading. They recently found his ship where it was crushed by ice and when the passage opened up from the melting snow it sank.
Your dog’s reactions videos are my favorite thing on youtube. But the history of various breeds is an awesome idea - it was so interesting! I really hope you make more!
Dude I'm so glad I found you through tiktok, you're not only hilarous and creative as hell, I really like your dedication towards dogs, thank so much for the info!
So enjoyed this. Had not realised the full extent of Scott's stubborn and lethal stupidity. Good British motto - We always know better than the locals. Reminded me of the top drawer British cavalry in 19th century Sudan who presumed their equestrian skills perfectly equiped them to manage camels. A couple of days of vicious kicks from unexpected directions, long range vile vomiting and outright refusal to move soon had the toffs humiliated - utterly.
For those people who perceive this humorous video as historical: The Samoyed Laika, a registered breed, is not actually a breed. These are white Nenets reindeer Laikas, which are still not a recognized breed. The Nenets, like their shepherd Laikas, have not died out and to this day they graze their deer with the help of their fluffy multi-colored Laikas, they also hunt with them. One of the most common theories about the name Samoyed originates from the Russian words Themselves and Rides, in the snow a sleigh pulled by white Samoyeds looks like they are moving by themselves (This word has nothing to do with cannibalism historically, there are no prerequisites to assert that the Nenets were cannibals.). And finally, the Canadian Eskimos are the descendants of Asian tribes who came to North America from Asia, They can't by any means be the first people to use sled dogs, without sled dogs they simply wouldn't have made it to North America. North American sled dogs, modern North American wolves, bears, and Eskimos all hail from Siberia and the far east of Russia. The ancestors of all of them live there in Russia to this day.
Amazing and informative, would be nice if you could do more of this for other breeds as well. Also appreciate the hard work mate, and the golden comedy.
I just happened upon your videos recently, and I love them so much!! You are hilarious and informative and give *just * the right amount of opinion but still served with a level of sensitivity. Thank you for filling the comedic void happening with the writer's strike, and for an entertainment outlet for my total love of dogs!!😁🥰
I loved this! When I was a kid, we had a next door neighbor that had a GORGEOUS Samoyed named Samantha. She really was a walking cloud! And so sweet and friendly. I think this history of dog series is a great addition to your repertoire. Please do keep these coming!
A friend of mine has 3 Samoyeds. All are rescues - two of them from the Chinese Dog Meat Festival. He lives in Oregon and his property abuts a National Forest. He posts a lot of photos of walking the dogs in the woods. (A couple of years ago he published a calendar of the photos and gave the profit to the dog rescue.) The antics of these dogs are endlessly entertaining.
love it!! Loved the role play cuts and great info. Did you know there's an extinct dog breed that was bred for fiber? Salish Wool Dogs were kept on an island to keep crossbreeding from messing up the dog wool! there are still a few blankets made from their fur and they are my absolute top candidate for the Next Extinct Thing to Clone.
I took a sip of my tea, and had to sit here for five minutes with it in my mouth with my hand over my mouth, because I was laughing too hard to swallow it and I wasn't about to spit it out.......... totally worth it!
My Grandparents raised Sammies in the 1960s and 1970s. The female was trained to keep the litte kids in the yard. Sadly I was born just after their last Samoyed crossed the rainbow Bridge.
Toss in a good word for Chow Chows. They are an amazing breed, and the coat has the same characteristics as those you noted in the Samoyed, plus, the coats come in other colors. They are much more fun than you show in portraying them. LOVE your videos!
I had a beautiful and oh so sweet Chow Chow/Samoyed mix that I had for almost 16 years. Omg he was such a sweetheart. He passed five years ago and I still mourn him. I now have a delightful corgi/JRT mix. All my dogs have been rescues.
This was absolutely fantastic. I don't think there's anyone on RUclips that loves dogs as much as you, except maybe Rocky Kanaka. Please, do many many more of these.
This was great! Loved the little skits mixed in, so funny! Please consider one on bassholes…I mean, basset hounds. Glorious house hippos with grace for days!
As you talked a lot about expeditions, I'd like to recommend everyone the book "Terror" by Dan Simmons. It's based around expedition to the northern parts of Canada/Grenland, is very naturalistic and seems very well researched when it comes to all the bad things that can happen to a human being and a ship in -50 celcius degrees. Great book, well written too, with tremendous pacing!
This is amazing! Just a request/suggestion - you should do one on the Tosa Inu!! Such an amazing dog! I have worked in veterinary medicine for the last 30 years and have only met one in my life, a big boy named Musashi, named after Miyamoto Musashi - the Japanese swordsman. Mushashi went from regal to goofy as hell in seconds, one of my most memorable patients. Lots of fun history with the breed as well. I really enjoy your stuff and your impressions are spot on! Keep it up, you're a smile and a bright spot in my day and many of those in the veterinary industry.

Brilliant. Please, I'm begging you, keep filming these.
Yes!
I really like the history delivery. I think we all need more pictures of the dog being researched. I love that you picked a breed personal to you for the first one.
Google the pictures then. You can't come on this guy's video demanding anything.
@@TheCallowayBride I demand more pictures of Thor…is this the right guy?
This was awesome! Clever, snarky, silly, totally anti-pompous and informative. More! 🙏🥰
Agree! I’d watch a ton of these
Two things I love:
-long form video Essays
-This guy's videos.
10/10
I always enjoy your short, funny, dog themed videos, but this long form informative style is even better. Would definitely love to see more history of dog breeds videos from you.
As a dog lover, a Samoyed lover and a history lover, you've won a subscriber. Can't wait to see the German Shepherd video, they're my favourite breed.
As long as there are no Dirndls and Lederhosen in that video.
@@sieglindesmith9092 My favourite show has a GSD and it's set in Austria, so I would be OK with dirndls and lederhosen in there.
You definitely need to make this a series!! I'd watch every single one!!
"The... The pug 🐷"
*Beautiful.*
I have a pug

Growing up we used to have a Samoyed. She was a stunning girl we named Sasha. Ultimately we weren't home enough to have a dog. Plus we lived in Las Vegas which is the opposite of her ideal climate.
We were able to find a family that lived up in the mountains. She got to frolic in the snow all Winter up there. ❄ Her coat was so fluffy and white. Loved that dog so much.
My grandparent's had a Samoyed. Somehow he survived all of his life in the Philippines which is a tropical country. 🤷🏻♀️
If you ever get another dog that shed a lot get a brush and brush them every other day to help lower that
WOW tho...I once shaped the hair of my wolf dog into a lil white howling wolf tho!😆😂🤣🤣
You should try it, apparently dog fur is pretty darn warm
Good
YES ! to the knitting of the Samoyed. By far the best canine fiber. A bit tricky to spin but worth the trouble. Very entertaining video. Thanks
Just love your stuff. Started watching the robber vs. dog breeds and was howling with laughter. Subscribed. Please keep up the good work.
I absolutely love your style of delivery, Jonny. So , so hilarious. Thanks for the vid!
This is awesome! As a dog lover and history nerd this was perfection.
May I please request a “history of the Australian shepherd “? :)
I love your pure comedy videos, but I think this was even better. Very informative and entertaining. This will be a great series!
What a history professor you would make! Your classes would be PACKED!
I can't believe I actually learned something while laughing so hard I snorted! PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE!!!
My Dude!! You just took your whole video series to a whole new facinating level! I am here for it all.
This was great! Love the mix of geography, historical events, and the dog all delivered so humorously.
Hell yeah, love this video! Please make more, it's clear you are passionate and love doing this. Can't wait to learn so much more about all the dogs!
I've binged 98% of your channel today, 10/18/23. My sides hurt from laughing aloud & have tear trails down my face. Love your content. ...
Oh yeah ! Those neat little guys ! We learned about them in school.
But are they so cute you could stab the scientist who clones them?
I'm Salish♥️
Loved this longer format that still has your signature funny mixed with facts. Keep it up!
I love all of your dog videos! This history lesson is awesome! If I'd had a history teacher like you, I would've actually listened!😆
OmG THANK YOU soooo much for this new AMAZING series!!! I love it!! ❤🎉
Ngl, I would watch one of these for EVERY SINGLE DOG BREED EVER!
Excellent vid - fun but also learned so much!
I took a sip of my tea, and had to sit here for five minutes with it in my mouth with my hand over my mouth, because I was laughing too hard to swallow it and I wasn't about to spit it out.......... totally worth it!
Yes...more of this. The world needs to know that a lot of stabbings are due to fluffiness. 🗡🐩❤😘
🤣😂
Makes sense. There must be a balance to the universe.
Lol 😂😂
So true!
🤣🤣🤣
More dog breed histories please. Your videos are hilarious! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Johnny and Thor. Great history. Love to hear about the history of the St Bernard as only you can do it justice. 🙌
Please take more dog breed histories like this one! The world needs them!
My Grandparents raised Sammies in the 1960s and 1970s. The female was trained to keep the litte kids in the yard. Sadly I was born just after their last Samoyed crossed the rainbow Bridge.
I'm so glad that this channel came up in my recommendations; I've loved every video so far!!
Please do more of these. This was awesome and went by so fast! Love them.
This was amazing dude! You should be so proud 🎊🎉 can tell a lot of work (and love) went into it 💕
Ty Jonny! I love this documentary I'd love to see more of them! :)
This was absolutely fantastic. I don't think there's anyone on RUclips that loves dogs as much as you, except maybe Rocky Kanaka. Please, do many many more of these.
You’re crankin’, Jonny! The best gig on the web. I’m kenneling/grooming dogs in Far West TX. Your material is awesome, and great fun to watch!
Please do more of these!!! This seriously just made my day with hard I was laughing!!!
I love your channel! ❤
I'm so glad it was recommended. Take care!
This vid format slams, without lookin just callin out we're gonna need jack russell, wolfhound and mareema. Thanks love your work :D
I love your work! Please keep doing the various dog videos. Make my day. I have an Australian Shepherd and would love to see that breed featured lol.
Same !!! ✌❤🌻🐝😷🐾
I absolutely loved this video- has dogs, humor, dogs, history, more dogs. I love your work. Excited to see what you have in store for us. And your chonky doggo is very handsome ❤
Long A but pronounced same way. There you go. Aaamundsen. ♥ from Norway. My fave dog is the Bernese dogs. Berner Sennen as we call them here. They're so fluffy and friendly that anyone fall instantly in love. I have owned 2 in my life.
Love your videos. I’m very excited about the prospect of a series focusing on the history of different breeds. I’m so looking forward to more content. Thanks for the laughs.
This was a lot of work, Jonny. I love learning about dogs, and your vids are fun af. Thanks very much!
Very fun and educating to watch! Keep making these videos , you have a great sense of humor and a great understanding of our furry friends! 😊
Jonny, you’re the best! Love all your dog videos. Love this history lesson (the only history lesson I’ll ever retain 🤣). Hoping you’ll make more dog breed history lessons. You rock! 🐾
I love your videos and you impersonate each breed so perfectly. Would love some love for the American Pit Bull Terrier, who was the AKC's Best Family Dog Breed for two years in the 40's. My girl is so loving, intuitive, and FAST!
This is AWESOME! Can't wait for more of these! 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
This was awesome! Your research and delivery made this a lot if fun to watch. (And it was nice to hear how Samoyed was pronounced from someone who obviously knows a lot about the breed.) Please keep these coming!
