      Companion dogs are like French Bulldogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chihuahuas, Papillion, etc. French Bullies were specifically bred to be companions for English lacemakers who moved to France in the 18th century.

    That question about dogs saving an estimate of 5,000 lives being ‘false’ is so stupid. If it was under 5,000 then sure, but surely it’s correct if it was higher as it still includes 5,000? I hate questions like that! 😂

    • @peterclarke7240
      @peterclarke7240 5 месяцев назад +7

      I don't understand. It asked if it was true that the estimate was "around 5000."
      how would that include any number significantly higher than 5000?
      EDIT: I forgot to include the word "significantly: obviously, "around 5000" doesn't mean "5000 or less." Sorry for any confusion!

    • @mverstaen
      @mverstaen 5 месяцев назад

      @@peterclarke7240 see the word ' around' well if the minimum range is 0-5000, then the flipside is 5001-10.000. 0 to 10.000 is the full range. it's a rather large scale to call 'around' i must admit.

    • @peterclarke7240
      @peterclarke7240 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@mverstaen Um, no, that's not at all what that means.
      "around" means "close to" or "near". It doesn't mean "every number within a range from 0 to the specified number.
      If I say "around 50 people attended my birthday party" (ahaha, as if...), then you'd expect me to mean "somewhere between 45-55 people," otherwise I'd have said "around 40 people" or 2around 60 people."
      It certainly would NEVER be taken to mean nobody attended.
      EDIT: Oh, I see the confusion: I forgot to include the word "significantly" in my previous post- obviously "around 5000" means "somewhere around the 5000 mark, either a bit more or a bit less." Sorry!

Over the past couple of decades, I've done a lot of work with rescues, and one that focuses on rescuing Pitties, has a Spot The Pittie quiz. It really makes me sad that these dogs are always the ones that stay in the shelter because no one is allowed to get them or wants them...

      Hello, fellow Bore! I'm not an animal bore, more of an "um, ACTUAMALLY" sort of bore... Jack of all bores, master of none, so to speak.
      Can I pick your brains about something? I just want to make sure my understanding is correct on something doggie-related.
      I'm in the UK, and obviously you'll probably have heard about the spate of dog attacks, some of them horrific, and mostly by XL Bullies.
      One of the reasons I've heard put forward is that it's due to more unscrupulous breeders recognising there's a lot of money to be made from XL puppies, so they're breeding dogs without really checking their lineage or behaviours, and, as a result, they're breeding aggressive traits back into the XL breed that had previously been bred out (my understanding was the XL was originally bred, at least in their "pet" form, to be a big soppy bugger of a dog), so dogs with aggressive tendencies are now going to people who see a sweet little puppy, have NO idea what they're letting themselves in for, and are suddenly dealing with an animal that wants to chew the postman's face off.
      Is that true? Or is it really all down to the owner? (obviously it is... In the sense that a good owner can train behaviours out of a dog, but not in the sense of "we thought we were getting a big soppy bugger but now he's eaten Gran!"
      I've just had a few... "discussions" in the "nature v nurture" sphere about this, and I just want to know if my info is actually correct.

      @@yatshie8717 The problem is that nefarious people have given them a bad name. Also, when a medium to large dog of no particular obvious breed bites, witnesses will presume it's a Pit. A nine year bite study by (sorry, I forget the name offhand, but if you need it, remind me and I'll look them up) showed it has NOTHING to do with breed.
      Basically, there are circumstances, such as an abused dog, one who lives outside, a stranger coming into that space, with the abusive owner not being around and more that are factors, and generally at least nine of them are in play.
      Less than 30 people a year die from dog bites, and it's usually due to a post infection picked up at the hospital. On the other hand, we have some numbers from the FEW reporting kill shelters, and we kill millions of healthy dogs, cats and other pets a year.
      In my case, I can train a dog to be a mental wellness/PTSD dog, and by law all landlords are required to accept him/her. I live in a no pet place (found out at signing) and so rescued a cat that's my "ESA". But, I'd rather wait for a more pro place in the next year or two, before I get another dog. I need time to recover from the death of my last one.
      My heart to yours.

    I honestly expected these to be harder. I've seen some REALLY hard quizzes that have pretty rare breeds on them, but... these ain't it. I'm sure it's been mentioned, but a couple of things:
    - Phalene is a papillon. It just has drop ears. They can be born in the same litter and they are registered under papillon (at least with AKC, not FCI), so they kind of intentionally tricked you there.
    - Companion dogs are dogs specifically and originally bred for companionship only. So breeds that aren't originally purposed for sledding, herding, ratting, etc. Dalmation was wrong because they were bred as hunting dogs, but the quiz is wrong in this case as well because jack russells were originated, as the name implies, as terriers (ie a hunting dog). The only "true" companion breed listed is actually the pug (originated as a companion for Chinese royalty).
    - The rottweiler has an autoimmune disorder called vitiligo which is where the skin loses pigment over time. Some humans can also have this.

    Other breeds are: hunting breeds, protection breeds, carriage/sled breeds, sport breeds and herding breeds.
    All of them have several sub groups that were bred for specialised purposes. Like having water dogs, gun dogs, ratters, sniffer, chasing dogs all be part of the hunting dog group, ranging from Dachshund to Golden Retriever.

American bulldogs are usually the tallest of the three, but not always, so they have angled ears, long muzzles, and curled tails. English bulldogs have floppy ears, wide muzzles, and stubby tails. Hope that helps!

    Hey Johnny, we have a pure bred Old English Bull Dog (younger male we got him at 3 months old in 2020) and a American Bull Dog/Labador Mix (older female we got her at 16 to 18 months old in 2018 from a family member). They had her in an apartment for 10 hours a day by herself and when they got home to let her out to go potty, she would run away. We had to train her not to run away from us. She turned into my guard dog and constant companion. I work from home. And he tends to be more on the laid back timid side unless he is hunting for squirrels, then he will stare up into the tree for hours not moving. His other key trait is biting at cars as we drive by them, we have to keep his window up or he will jump out. Let me know if you want a picture of our babies. Smorz (she) and Bentley (he) - fun fact they both weigh 74 lbs. But she is taller then him, but he is more muscular than her (short/stalky).😊😮

    0:43 "Companion breed" is about dog's races classification. In order to classify races, and to make it easy to understand dogs' needs and purposes, they've been classified in 10 Groups. Group 9 (in France, at least) is "Companion dogs" : which means, those are breeds meant for beauty purposes or being life companion. All the other 9 groups are over types of "classes". For example, Group 6 dogs are "bloodhunter dogs" (like Beagles), which means if you take a dg from this group, he has different "needs" than "companion dog group" would have (sniffing a lot, following sents, hunting, etc).

    Jonny, you need to do more content before there's no one to do more content for. The crazy cloud that's polluting Earth these days isn't going to skip Canada. Other than that, you're pretty funny. I especially like how different breeds would act given certain situations. My favorite is robbers, but how about cocktail party, sporting events or sports, greeting the mailman, first day at school, buying food at the supermarket, as president of the United States, interacting at the dog park, hosting a talk show, etc.

    I love your dog videos! Don't be too hard on yourself. 😁 I am mumble-mumble years old, have had dogs in my home literally my entire life, have watched many televised dog shows and attended a few, and my husband trained Labs for waterfowl hunting and retriever competition for years. I didn't get a perfect score, either.

    3:38 idk if it happened in Vietnam, but dogs can be used to find snipers.
    Along a lot of other useful things, like minesweeping and finding IEDs.
    Which is why dogs and their handlers are also a target for snipers

    The last dog is a Bichon Frise. They are usually confused with poodles when their hair is cut short. It's easy to tell them apart because poodles have pointy(er) noses, and Bichons have a more square head and boxy muzzle.

    Enjoyed the video! I find the random puppy pictures in the quizzes to be a challenge especially when the other examples are adult dogs. Like some hard to tell since don’t look like what they will be when they grow up. Though maybe that’s why they do those to make them more challenging.

    This is actually something we have to do in vet tech school lol. Your first BIG test is called the "breed exam" and you have to spell them completely right (no joining words when you shouldn't, no extra spaces or letters, etc) or they're not correct

    So, Jonny, I've been watching your shorts for a few months now, they just popped up in my feed and I liked em. Now, watching this, I realize you are actually me in guy form(and you're probably at least 10 years younger). I, too, know all the dog breeds. When I was a kid, a pet dog was all I wanted but the answer was always no. When I was a kid, I loved reading and so I took every dog book available out from the library on a regular basis(except for novels featuring dogs, they always die and crying in class was awkward). I took the Ultimate Dog book out so many times that the librarian gave it to me.
    When I was 12, I broke my parents and they finally said yes. We got a Jack Russell. Life on hard mode is fun.
