That's an E6 she hits to end this song. Its the same note that is the ALW musical. She absolutely nails it. I have seen the musical in London, at Her Majesty's Theater, and she rivals Brightman, Bogges, St. Louis (or any of the others who portrayed Christine Daae) in the performance of this song.
I highly recommend that you go through the entire End Of An Era concert. Almost all the hits from their first 9 years and the band was on fire. A real spectacle and definitely one of their best shows ever.
And to add to the Drama, it was the Night They Fired The Soprano. With all the respect and love in my fanboy heart for Floor and Henk, this is the definitive Nightwish version of this song.
Nightwish has been blessed with a series of really good singers. Another early song, that gets underplayed partly because it is in Finnish is "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan". There is a lovely video from the same concert as Phantom -- End of an Era. Tarja's voice really shines in that one. Marko, early days with Nightwish, is probably best known for his stunning rendition of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes." Marko has another band "Tarot" that he was lead singer in before and during Nightwish. I would suggest "Tides" live for a starter. Annette, the second singer, is better known for her studio work than for a live performace, but, one of the gems of her collection is a live performance of "Slow Love Slow" from the Montreux Jazz Festival. She also does a great job in "Scaretale", but the studio version of that one. Floor you have already met, and she is another deep rabbithole to dive down. All in all, between all four singers, in Nightwish and in their work outside of that band, should keep you going for a very long time.
I love this show. Thanks for the video. Nightwish was a new thing for me too. I got to them through Tarja's solo work. She is an amazing artist and a very nice person, a bit of a mess and a big perfectionist with a slightly goofy sense of humor. I'm glad that Tarja and Marko found their way to each other again. I saw some of their performances from the tour in March and you can see how happy they are together and how amazing the chemistry is between them. Both of them live for their music and now they may be creating it together. Perhaps one day Tarja will reconcile with Tuomas, but I understand that the feelings between them were much more complicated. When I got to know the history of Nightwish, I found that everything is there and I started to understand more about their songs and Tarja's songs. You should hear the Ghost Love Score song from this concert with lyrics switched on. It is from the last album that Tarja recorded with the band. The song is said to be Tuomas' farewell to Tarja. The choir sings: _My fall will be for you_ _My love will be in you_ _If you be the one to cut me_ _I will bleed forever_ In the version with Floor, the chorus is suppressed.

If you want more duets with Tarja and Marko from this concert: The Siren, Planet Hell, Ever Dream, Wish I Had an Angel, Slaying the Dreamer (great power metal). At this concert, Tarja also sang Ghost Love Score. After this concert, Tarja was fired. She was the only one in the band who didn't know about it at the time. There are many theories and one open letter, drama, lots of question marks and tears, theories and a divided fandom. At that time, many fans left the band. I am really glad that you enjoyed the song. For more Marko, I would recommend "The Islander" (live at Tampere) -- it is more folk song than metal or hard rock. For more Tarja, "Sleeping Sun" and anything else at the "End of an Era" concert where she sang Phantom. But "Phantom" is outstanding -- and I thought you would enjoy it. You even exceeded my expectations with your amazement at Tarja's range!
End of An Era concert is a good place to see and hear Tarja. Don't hold back - and, there is a special tribute to Pink Floyd here too: "High Hopes" performed by the Marko, Tuomas, Emppu and Jukka while Tarja is on wardrobe change.

To get a feel of a relatively "young" Marko, here is him and his older brother Zachary promoting their band Tarot in Japan in 1995. Which is funnily enough 1 year before Nightwish was founded! Marko is actually 29 (so not "that" young really) in this following clip. The first Tarot album came out in 1986, when he was 20. Hey there! Tarja and NightWish huge, long-time fan/addict here! lol. I just came across your channel and I'm thoroughly enjoying your NW reactions, eager for more! lol. You're a lovely lady! You've got a new subscriber right here and lots of thumbs up! Thank you for this reaction btw, I'm glad you enjoyed this masterful piece of art! Theirs is the ultimate version of The Phantom of the Opera imo, and this whole 'End of an Era' concert is pure gold, it happened in 2005 and was the very last time Tarja and NW performed together before their dramatic breakup. Plus a curious fact: Tarja was very sick with a severe throat infection during this iconic concert. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just you imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍Remember this everytime you react again to a song from this show, which I hope you will lol. So mate, trust me when I say this is only the tip of the iceberg. I do love the tone of Tarja's voice, it's so dramatic, piercing, warm, dark and powerful, yet it can be soft, otherworldly and angelic, very precise and relaxed, just beautiful; and it never ceases to amaze me how she can carry all that natural vocal weight up into her high register, it's insanely hard to do that, takes A LOT of skill, control, practice and a great vocal technique not to make your vocal cords go "boom" when you've got such a powerful voice like hers. Ofc we can always hear the "operatic" influence in her music and her voice even when she mixes her classical singing technique with other more "contemporary" styles and her strong chest voice (which you notice more in her solo career, it's phenomenal btw). She uses her classical technique in her unique metal/rock style, exploring and expanding it, although she's not exactly an opera singer (she said it herself many times), her specialty falls more into the field of chamber and sacred repertoire when it comes to classical music, though I can't help thinking that, had she become a full-time opera singer, she'd definitely be a superb one with that powerful, dark, rich, full tone in her voice, probably singing/playing roles of a 'spinto soprano', for she has several features of that voice type I think. Well, I love Tarja, I love NW with her, and I simply love NW in all lineups, with all 3 super talented lead vocalists they had, for they're such an epic, extraordinary, legendary band, as you know already Anyway, I'm glad to see so many people coming to know NW's music with reactions. Through their Music they've created such magnificent otherworldly realm! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with! Thus I'm overjoyed you're in the path of this fantanstic musical journey, walking through all their eras (you can't go wrong with them). I do hope you continue down this path with more NW (both with Tarja and Floor, and of course Anette), only then can you grasp a full scope of their work, lore and artistic evolution. I want to echo a previous comment -- since you really like Tarja's voice, you should listen to Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan from the same End of an Era DVD/concert. The song is in Finnish, Tarja's native language, and is one of only a couple of Nightwish songs written in Finnish. Tarja does this song solo, no other band members are on stage, and the song is absolutely gorgeous, even when you don't know the meaning -- although you could look up the lyrics first.

Great cover, and live song exudes a powerful energy. And ending of song is unparalleled, it feels like the roof of arena was going to fly into stratosphere because of their powerful vocals. It's interesting that when they recorded this song for album, Marko was not enthusiastic at all. But still he agreed to sing song as a raving lunatic, not as a romantic in love. Marko said that a normal guy would not hide in sewers and there is logic in his words. If you really like Nightwish then there is no sense to watch separate videos from official concerts of band. These guys have all the songs are great, each in its own way, so you can safely watch the concerts in full. I love this show. Thanks for the video. Nightwish was a new thing for me too. I got to them through Tarja's solo work. She is an amazing artist and a very nice person, a bit of a mess and a big perfectionist with a slightly goofy sense of humor.
I'm glad that Tarja and Marko found their way to each other again. I saw some of their performances from the tour in March and you can see how happy they are together and how amazing the chemistry is between them. Both of them live for their music and now they may be creating it together. Perhaps one day Tarja will reconcile with Tuomas, but I understand that the feelings between them were much more complicated.
When I got to know the history of Nightwish, I found that everything is there and I started to understand more about their songs and Tarja's songs.
You should hear the Ghost Love Score song from this concert with lyrics switched on. It is from the last album that Tarja recorded with the band. The song is said to be Tuomas' farewell to Tarja. The choir sings:

In the version with Floor, the chorus is suppressed.

The guitarist is Emppu (M-poo), it is a diminutive for Erno Matti Juhani Vuorinen. E M & ppu like how English uses a y for johnny or bobby. Think of it like Erno (Ernie or Ernest), Mathew, John Vuorinen. Finnish is a very unusual language.

Thanks a lot for the reaction. This whole End of an Era concert is absolutely amazing. There isn't a weak song. If you want more duets with Tarja and Marko from this concert: The Siren, Planet Hell, Ever Dream, Wish I Had an Angel, Slaying the Dreamer (great power metal). At this concert, Tarja also sang Ghost Love Score. After this concert, Tarja was fired. She was the only one in the band who didn't know about it at the time. There are many theories and one open letter, drama, lots of question marks and tears, theories and a divided fandom. At that time, many fans left the band. Tarja and Tuomas then wrote several songs about it. These are the kind of indirect messages they were sending each other. Tuomas' most famous song about how he felt after Tarja's departure is Poet and the Pendulum. Great performance with Floor at Wembley in 2016. Tarja's best known song is Diva (great performance from Circus Life DVD in 2020)
From 2000 comes another amazing Nightwish concert (before Marko coming to the band) called From Wihses To Eternity. This whole concert is absolutely brilliant. Tuomas headbanging during the song Fantasmic. Tony Kakko (their friend) from Sonata Arctica in a duet with Tarja on the song Beauty & the Beast. Great song Pharaoh Sales to Orion, some growling there. The Nightwish Arena channel did a great job remastering the entire concert.
Marko released a duet with Tarja Left on Mars two weeks ago. They just finished a tour in South America and announced a European tour. Tarja and Marko reconciled a few years ago and are now friends again. Marko said he realized he had lost a friend he wanted back and initiated a reconciliation with Tarja. He even apologized to her

I am really glad that you enjoyed the song. For more Marko, I would recommend "The Islander" (live at Tampere) -- it is more folk song than metal or hard rock. For more Tarja, "Sleeping Sun" and anything else at the "End of an Era" concert where she sang Phantom. But "Phantom" is outstanding -- and I thought you would enjoy it. You even exceeded my expectations with your amazement at Tarja's range!

You've got a new subscriber right here and lots of thumbs up! Thank you for this reaction btw, I'm glad you enjoyed this masterful piece of art! Theirs is the ultimate version of The Phantom of the Opera imo, and this whole 'End of an Era' concert is pure gold, it happened in 2005 and was the very last time Tarja and NW performed together before their dramatic breakup. Plus a curious fact: Tarja was very sick with a severe throat infection during this iconic concert. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just you imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍Remember this everytime you react again to a song from this show, which I hope you will lol. So mate, trust me when I say this is only the tip of the iceberg. I do love the tone of Tarja's voice, it's so dramatic, piercing, warm, dark and powerful, yet it can be soft, otherworldly and angelic, very precise and relaxed, just beautiful; and it never ceases to amaze me how she can carry all that natural vocal weight up into her high register, it's insanely hard to do that, takes A LOT of skill, control, practice and a great vocal technique not to make your vocal cords go "boom" when you've got such a powerful voice like hers. Ofc we can always hear the "operatic" influence in her music and her voice even when she mixes her classical singing technique with other more "contemporary" styles and her strong chest voice (which you notice more in her solo career, it's phenomenal btw). She uses her classical technique in her unique metal/rock style, exploring and expanding it, although she's not exactly an opera singer (she said it herself many times), her specialty falls more into the field of chamber and sacred repertoire when it comes to classical music, though I can't help thinking that, had she become a full-time opera singer, she'd definitely be a superb one with that powerful, dark, rich, full tone in her voice, probably singing/playing roles of a 'spinto soprano', for she has several features of that voice type I think.
Well, I love Tarja, I love NW with her, and I simply love NW in all lineups, with all 3 super talented lead vocalists they had, for they're such an epic, extraordinary, legendary band, as you know already
Anyway, I'm glad to see so many people coming to know NW's music with reactions. Through their Music they've created such magnificent otherworldly realm! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with! Thus I'm overjoyed you're in the path of this fantanstic musical journey, walking through all their eras (you can't go wrong with them).
Just to be clear, I enjoy NW in all eras because they're an incredible band no matter what, and although I'm a huge Tarja fan (or Tarjaholic, as some would call us lol, and think she's very unique and brought NW to a whole new level combining her stunning, absolutely beautiful and powerful operatic vocals with Tuomas' genius), I love, respect, support and appreciate all their singers as the equally great, amazingly talented musicians they are in their own different ways and rights - that's a fact only the blind don't see, all else is just a matter of personal taste and preference. Each of them brought special, individual elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity. As a fan, I strongly believe it's an honor to have witnessed 3 amazing talented ladies fronting NW and should just enjoy the gift the whole band (all members, past and present) deliver us with their timeless Art, and I think we should feel grateful for that, regardless of our personal preferences
That said, I hope you're taking suggestions from the comment section for I have plenty lol. I do hope you continue down this path with more NW (both with Tarja and Floor, and of course Anette), only then can you grasp a full scope of their work, lore and artistic evolution. So if that's alright I'd like to drop down here my recommendations for you to add to your reaction list from NW in Tarja's era, since from what I've seen you reacted more often to NW with the amazing Floor, and I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" (although I absolutely LOVE them in all eras), and I think others are better suited than me to recommend songs from the other eras, moreover I don't want to make this comment any longer than it already is lol. Now without further ado, back to the list of suggestions (I tried to make a selection as short as I could, really difficult to choose from their vast, outstanding repertoire lol, but ofc there's so much more to explore as you go):

This is one of their greatest masterpieces of all times! I personally love the way Tarja sings it, I feel like she deeply understands the crucial importance of the instrumentals (especially the epic orchestral arrangement and choir), and the unspoken soul of the song, so she doesn't sing it like it was all about her voice and it's clearly intentional; if you listen closely sometimes she even seems to use her voice like an instrument, ocasionally sort of merging her sound with the orchestra's and choir (which in Floor's version was made lower probably to match her style better), becoming one living soul with the music. It's just so perfect imo!

Really beautiful, mystical and enthralling imo!

Love this and Tarja is gorgeous, showcases much of her vocal skills and powerful energy on stage!

I want to echo a previous comment -- since you really like Tarja's voice, you should listen to Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan from the same End of an Era DVD/concert. The song is in Finnish, Tarja's native language, and is one of only a couple of Nightwish songs written in Finnish. Tarja does this song solo, no other band members are on stage, and the song is absolutely gorgeous, even when you don't know the meaning -- although you could look up the lyrics first.

Great cover, and live song exudes a powerful energy. And ending of song is unparalleled, it feels like the roof of arena was going to fly into stratosphere because of their powerful vocals. It's interesting that when they recorded this song for album, Marko was not enthusiastic at all. But still he agreed to sing song as a raving lunatic, not as a romantic in love. Marko said that a normal guy would not hide in sewers and there is logic in his words. If you really like Nightwish then there is no sense to watch separate videos from official concerts of band. These guys have all the songs are great, each in its own way, so you can safely watch the concerts in full.
