@@PCTechHustle Yes there are 5 pins in all like yours in the video but mine on my optiplex 390 mini tower board the lonely 5th is on the bottom left while yours is on the top right i'm wondering do i make the same connections for the power switch like you did on the video but just the opposite with the labels facing away from the memory or toward it? ill upload a pic 1 sec.
Will this setup work for a optiplex 390 mini tower? And can you please let me know what other cheaper pc cases with tempered glass this optiplex 390 mt board can fit? ( does not need to be rgb i'll put in lights myself ;)
+1 just for the music at the end. I'm kind of curious about the power switch. I did a case swap on a Dell Opti build a few months ago. I had a hell of a time with the power switch - it was not like the one on your board. I ended up cutting the cable from the old case in order to use the power switch adapter it came with and then splicing into it with the new case which was a Fractal Design. Your solution just wasn't an option, but I sure wish it was. That Lian Li case is great - I've been waiting to pick one up, but they never are around on Amazon. Did you try using a 5 pin female to 4 pin male adapter cable for fan? They have one on Amazon for under $10.
The power switch was a pain. I did the Optiplex 790. After all the cable routing etc.. I can't get it to boot. Powers up fans spin but no output on the monitors (Either onboard or PCI) . I hooked up the Front Bezel controls back to the mobo for troubleshooting and I got two blinking Amber lights, some research suggested change the Cmos, did that, and nada. Anyway, I just bought a new mobo, I will transfer the CPU as it is the same socket. Thanks for the vid, super helpful with the proprietary fans etc..
hello! I bought a dell optiplex 7010 and i wanted to do a case swap so i bought a coolermaster masterbox ml311l case and i know how to do mostly everything but i am still confused on the power switch part. do i need to buy anything for it to work or im not sure? thank you
You don’t need to buy anything additional. An aftermarket case will come with the cables required to connect the power switch to the motherboard. You will just have to locate the pins that provide that power.
I don't know how, I don't know why, but good lord those Optiplexes are just great machines. I know everyone's all agog about the price/performance of new AMD...but honestly, for decent gaming, this is all you need. (Note: Decent, not full-bore PCMR 240hz/240FPS water cooled SLI everything gaming :) )

Montech Fighter 500 ATX Mid-Tower Computer Gaming Case/Pre-Installed Four Rainbow LED Fans, High-Airflow, Mesh 3D Front Panel, Tempered Glass, Magnetic Dust Filter/ATX,Micro ATX,Mini-ITX, Black. Just found it on amazon for a good price and needed to know if this would wark and what else i needed to buy to swap the case. Thanks
nice budget build I'm doing the same with a OptiPlex 3020 and a aero cool 500 case, I have built adaptors for the power switch/power led and hdd led. I only faced with 1 start-up warning (the i/o cable failure) I believe its the green front panel usb2.0 header on the motherboard, the problem is is the pinout of the header normal usb2.0 or has dell used a different pinout do you know any info about this
Yeah you are right. There are adapters you can buy too yo sold all the front panel connections issues. www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-7010-9010-7020-9020-and-Precision-T1700-Front-Panel-Header-Adapter-/264733441811?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
Unfortunately that one is a big pain to cable up since the dell motherboard does not accept a standard cable. You would have to do some cable spicing into the case harness for the front audio. I just decided to skip that because I never use the front audio jack and I think most other people don’t either.
You can take the fan from a ryzen stock cooler (pull the amd sticker) and swap it onto the stock dell heatsinks for a little performance and aesthetic boost!
wait so not having front panel auido does that mean your pc wont have any audio at all or is there still some way that you can get audio from the pc? Edit: i really want to swap my dell optiplex but i dont want to if i wont have any audio at all
Also again. I'm planning on getting the same case. So the case itself basically is a jumper for those power switches? Like does the case come with those power led jumpers that you connected.
Can i case swap the newer model optiplex like the 3070 as front connectors is already available on the motherboard? Please help if it is possible to do or not worth it Currently have the 3070 model + Gtx 1060 + extra psu to power gpu

@@PCTechHustle I meant the case fan connectors, but upon look at the manual it seems it has 3 pin connectors out of the box. I can just plug the connectors straight into the mobo since it has the 3 pins, right?

Hey! I love the video!! This is helping me so much with muy build :). Will the front I/o be connected/usable? I can't seem to figure out where to plug in all the connectors that the case comes with.
Actually they make adapters for that now!

My optiplex 390 where the power switch connection goes yours has the connections going from left to right while mine has the two pins going from right to left leaving the fifth pin on the very left hand side on top how should I proceed when making the connections just opposite of your connections?
So you found the 2 pins that complete the circuit for the power switch?
Yes it will work just the same.
Glad you made yours work! I didn’t get an adapter because I knew I would still face a boot up error anyway, good tip though!
I tought this dude was Elon Musko for a sec. I jumped
Lol!
Sorry to hear you had trouble with yours! God you still found some value in the video though!
@@PCTechHustle thx m8 hope everything will go well with the case swap!!
Coming at ya with another VIDEOOOOOOO shout out Jeremy from G+G
I don't know how, I don't know why, but good lord those Optiplexes are just great machines. I know everyone's all agog about the price/performance of new AMD...but honestly, for decent gaming, this is all you need. (Note: Decent, not full-bore PCMR 240hz/240FPS water cooled SLI everything gaming :) )
Agreed! If you are just after some basic game at medium time high settings these machines will deliver!
Hey just wondering what i need and if i could swap my case for my dell optiplex 9020 sff to.

Hi dude. Can I ask you something? I did the same things, but the front I/O audio cable, where does it go?
Unfortunately that one is a big pain to cable up since the dell motherboard does not accept a standard cable. You would have to do some cable spicing into the case harness for the front audio. I just decided to skip that because I never use the front audio jack and I think most other people don’t either.
Can you connect an AIO water cooler to the Dell Optiplex 9020 MT motherboard on a case swap?
That I’m not entirely sure of. I want to say yes but have never tested that myself.
Great video! I recently got the 790 sff and I’m wondering if I can swap the case the same way you did
Sure you can!
@@PCTechHustle will the 790 SFF motherboard be able to handle the power of the RX 580 or RX 570?
You would need an upgraded power supply to handle a card like that but everything will work fine
@@PCTechHustle ok thanks!
You can take the fan from a ryzen stock cooler (pull the amd sticker) and swap it onto the stock dell heatsinks for a little performance and aesthetic boost!
Oh really?? I might have to try that!
@@PCTechHustle The footprint for the fan screws is the same but the round fan diameter fits the heatsink way better than the stock square fan.
And it's quieter
Awesome! I have a spare I want to test this! I actually have a new Optiplex build coming. Thanks for the cool tip!
Im gonna need to do this if I were to somehow need to upgrade my pc which is a prebuilt in the future
wait so not having front panel auido does that mean your pc wont have any audio at all or is there still some way that you can get audio from the pc?
Edit: i really want to swap my dell optiplex but i dont want to if i wont have any audio at all
No just means the front audio jacks won’t work. You can plug into the back for audio or if you have USB that works too.
Hello, I watched a couple of videos. You are really good at what u do. So I was wondering have you ever tried doing mini ITX budget build?
I want to! They come at a bit of premium though having to use SFF parts. I might look into doing that though as an HTPC.
PC Tech Hustle hoping maybe in the near future. When economy starts rolling again. We might see some cheap itx build. Cheers ty for the reply.
Also again. I'm planning on getting the same case. So the case itself basically is a jumper for those power switches? Like does the case come with those power led jumpers that you connected.
Yes the case comes with the power cables for the front controls.
PC Tech Hustle hey i just got the case. I was setting it up but I can’t fit some screws for the motherboard
PC Tech Hustle like it won’t fit at all.
Hello, is it possible for optiplex 380 to transfer into new case and then gradually upgrade each part?
Those series are a bit tougher to do things like this.
Danny, great video. Eabod
Lmao! Love you Dale!
i have a optiplex 9010 and want to upgrade the case is there anything i would need to purchase other then the case
If your motherboard has an 8 pin motherboard power connection you will need a 24-to-8 pin adapter. That’s about it!
Can i case swap the newer model optiplex like the 3070 as front connectors is already available on the motherboard? Please help if it is possible to do or not worth it
Currently have the 3070 model + Gtx 1060 + extra psu to power gpu
No that would not work as those types of Optiplex's have very locked down proprietary design.
Thank you
Sure!
@@PCTechHustle by any chance how much FPS could it run on fortnite
Hey man, loved the video. I gotta ask, though, where would you connect the 4 pin to 3 pin in an Optiplex 3010 motherboard? I can't seem to find it. Is it at the bottom?
Can you elaborate more? Not sure what connectors you are referring to.
@@PCTechHustle I meant the case fan connectors, but upon look at the manual it seems it has 3 pin connectors out of the box. I can just plug the connectors straight into the mobo since it has the 3 pins, right?
Yeah if you have a spare 3 pin. My Optiplex 990 didn’t have any spare fan headers
Do you know if you can do this with a 790?
Sure can!
what do i do with the reset switch wire from the new pc tower?
You don’t necessarily need it but hey check these out. I just recently discovered them and I just might make a video on using these.
www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Optiplex-7010-9010-7020-9020-and-Precision-T1700-Front-Panel-Header-Adapter-/264733441811?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
Can you recommend any case that will work with the dell optiplex 3010 MT I honestly don’t care what it is I just want something that would be compatible with the 3010, THANKS!
Just about any case is as it’s a standard micro atx motherboard. So I’d say go for whatever you like!
Hi, can the CPU cooling fan be changed to a Better One? Or the Motherboard gives an error when it's not detecting the original cooling fan?
You can change it for sure!
@@PCTechHustle thanks :D are the connectors the same? I read somewhere that the pins are different from the standard CPU fan pins
Yes the stock fan has a 5 pin on the motherboard but you can get an adapter. Let me find you one.
Here you go! amzn.to/3k2sI0u
@@PCTechHustle thank you, Is this the same? If i buy from Amazon US there Is shipping cost www.amazon.it/dp/B08CV8RG1F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_M6qwFb15EM1PH
I hope to answer my question, is it possible for this device to be compatible with the new graphics card, RTX 3080 and 3070. Thank you.
I would not recommend that. You would create a severe bottle neck on the CPU and wouldn’t not have pci-e 4.0 available either.
No, you would bottleneck, games would crash, stuttering every 0.5-2 seconds, and artifacting.
Change cpu cooler I changed mine it gives it a great look
For sure! But not needed if you are trying to keep it cheap! The CPU does not get very hot at all.
Lol! That case is overboard. 🤣
It was! Hah!
Hey I bought that usb 3.0 expansion card, my computer is all together it doesn’t have a operating system and I’m trying to install windows 10, I don’t think it’s reading through the expansion card
Might try using usb 2.0 for now to get the OS installed
Optiplex 990 with the same SSD and I am using an RX 570. But I'm struggling on how I'm going to transfer it into a gaming case because I don't know where all the wires go and I'm not sure how to apply the mother board and the power supplies wires
Maybe check out my original build video of this Optiplex, it might help you pinpoint where things go. However, stay tuned! I will have a full build tutorial style video coming as my next!
I have a optiplex 390 as my first pc and changed my psu and gpu wanted to know if I could case swap
So if I were to put a fan controller everything would still work?
Yeah that won’t hurt anything and give you better fan support / control.
Can you just use a whole different motherboard or will it still be the same?
You can. Then at that point I guess there wouldn’t be much of anything you are bringing over from a OEM like this.
@@PCTechHustle good to know thanks for the quick answer :)
While you were at it, I would have swapped out the blue 45 degree cable.
I thought about it but you can't even see it. This case is going to be home for some different parts too, so didn't bother.
PC Tech Hustle Gotcha. Keep up the good work. Following you now.
Can you do one with the dell optiplex 7010 MT but go more in depth with the wiring bcz i have no idea what to do
7010 is the same process basically. Feel free to post a question though
@@PCTechHustle i just need a more in detail video of the back wires im new to this
Gotcha! Maybe check out my step
By step tutorial too, the processes are basically the same.

@@PCTechHustle thank you
@@PCTechHustle can that case be used also?
So can we get a SFF optiplex and can swap the case to a bigger one so I can fit the psu and gpu? Asking because here in Thailand they sell only SFF optiplex's, the normal ones are hard to find...
Absolutely you can!
Hello
I have the same DELL computer that you have, with the same characteristics, but I want to pass the motherboard to a CORSAIR RGB ICUE 220T case, and therefore I wanted to ask you; Is there a possibility to do this?
I would appreciate your answer and excuse my English
So the pci 6+2 on the power supply, does it connect to the motherboard or the GPU cause on my motherboard (optiplex 3010 sff model) doesn't have the pci 6+2
Pci power would always connect to an add in card of some sorts, GPUs, etc.
