- This deal popped up and I was on it in less than 10 minutes, it was a whole pallet of PCs going for $40 AUD initially, but then after I asked them about it they dropped it to $30. I was surprised... jumping into this I thought "what's there to lose" and really at this price point, not a whole lot. Join us in the journey to find out what's inside this lucky treasure hunt!

The Verge built a 2000$ pc
Just to play league of legends
🤦
the verge also did a horrid build on a pc like that
that was a dark time for pc lovers :/
And stream his gameplay
@@KimKiKi0 exactly
He was missing an aio screw, the cable management was out of question and im still wondering whether the pc is alive or not because of that inverted psu which was suffocated so bad
@Saify no they probably decided to throw it away cause of how bad the guy built the pc
If there was a sign up that said NEED OF PC BUILDING EXPERIENCE the guy probably would say that he could do it and verge would be fine with it
With so much scrap you could start your own series on extracting gold and copper
Why the heck would he do that? Of one of these pcs he would make just a few dollars.. Restoring them and selling them he could get way more
@@eduardoavila646 Who buys a core 2 duo these days ? They consume more power and are way too slow.
TheFinalRevelation Oh tons of people! They are usually cheaper and still good value, even more the quadcore ones.
And even if they were pentium 4's, just the price of the motherboard or the processor alone is higher than what you get with its gold inside.
If its a c2d or newer, people buy for budget machines, if its older usually people buy for collecting (collectors are a rising thing nowdays!)
Just check those retro channels in youtube or the ebay listings.
And pentium 4s for example are a good entry point to retrogaming with either msdos or windows98, wich is also a trendy thing nowdays
no he wouldnt
Grinix I dont know to who is this directed, but if its for me, yes he would.
A old computer, even a pentium 4 based system, worth more than the little bit of gold that you could potentially take out of it. Not to mention all the work you would have to remove the gold, all the chemicals you would have to buy, and all the time spent, wich reduce the gain you get with that small quantity of gold extracted. Firstly because unlike many people think, gold isnt just super abundant in these pc parts, the most abundant probably will be like Sn, Cu, the 'plastic' and/or glassfiber wich makes the pcbs, silicon, etc.
And if you get the pric for the g of gold, calculate gow much you get out from a pc, and search for usuall prices online, you will see the difference. If you clean all the parts, and resell as a retrogaming pc, the profit is even bigger, as many people want to just buy a pc to play some old games. See youtube for example.
Now that if you dont, for example, sell to a third world country, as Brazil. Then you would probably be able to have way more profit, these old eletronics can cost like 5-6x times more.
that original league pc was the video that got me to deep dive into building used PCs years ago when I was in high school. I grew enough interest to now be a 2nd year in college getting a computer engineering degree. so i owe you some thanks bryan.

The wood pallet alone is more than $30 and he gave you that too.

I work in electronics recycling and I can tell you this would be a bad couple of pallets, in terms of potential/value, for what we see come in. It's such a shame what people throw out. It pains me to realize how much stuff I'd love to have we're recycling, but I can't do anything about it...
To be honest that's exactly what got me into this. I want to re-purpose hardware with potential. Recycling stuff is good and all, but giving stuff that's still good a second life prior to recycling would be much better.
Man you are one busy dude! Tks for all your hard work bringing us these great videos. Thumb up!👍
Saved $50 and it only took up 6 hours of your life.
If you're curious, those "Mini PCs" are terminals, kind of useless without a main server. Most HP models came with a 1Gb CF card for storage, there's technically a sata port on most boards that you could solder a header on to (as in, the chipset has the capability for a sata port and the traces are there but no header exists, there's guides on how to do this). Mostly interesting as experiments but they don't really hold any value.

Just slap in some core 2 quads in there and they will run fine with windows 10. I have pretty much all those PC in my house and I got them from work (not sure if you remember me telling you) but yeah, I have the OptiPlex 780 up and running with a Q9400 and a GT 730 that one is for my aunt, then I have the Dell Vostro I have is using a Q6600 with a GTX 460. They run great. Plus the OptiPlex 780 should have a 1333 front side bus and DDR 3 and gigabit ethernet unless yours are the older model.
Why Windows 10 tho? Windows 7 is much more suitable for these machines since it uses less resources, and works better anyway
@@mad_cat431 I have no argument with that. I'm just thinking if he flips them he would most likely be using windows 10. And it's what people will be looking for in a PC. If they see it running windows 7 they might pass on these and find something else running windows 10.

Just FYI those Vostro 200 Motherboards - even though they can be modified to run even 45nm 771 Xeons - there is no way to get a Quadcore (Xeon or C2Q) working on these.
Anyway, if you need a modified BIOS for these with AHCI enabled and if you want 45nm dualcore Xeon Microcode, let me know. (I did notice you changed your Skype recently?)
Or he could use one of those Optiplex motherboards. If you update the BIOS they will run up to I believe a Q9650. I have one working with a Q9550 even though Dell's website says a Q6700 is the highest it can run.
just a note power supplies with a beefy 5v rail were ment for older systems because the 5v was what powered the cpu not the 12v

always good to have a old graphics card hanging around just in case you need to fix something and your main GPU isn't working right
I didn't look, but It's probably a old AGP or PCI video card, that won't fit in modern boards (no PCI or AGP slots, nowadays).
Those xeons are 10 or more years old, probably single core if I had to guess.
"that's all you need for gaming, its that single core performance!" - most 6700k through 7700k owners
He showed the page, dual cores. Therre Only 10 years old, xeons are server grade cpus so if they were 10 years old and only single cores that would be dumb asf
i mean, people say single core performance is what matters, because games mostly use 4-6 threads. So if you do have 6 threads or more single core performance is what you should be concerned about, not getting more cores.
7700k's easily beats something like an r7 1800x in games, the 6700k is usually on par with the 1800x, but overclocked that beats it too(because it overclocks more than the 1800x).
Don’t think Xeons were ever single cores but okay chief
I love the xeon sticker! Looks like old meeting the new.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the HP ML150 rig, looks like it can support a bunch of sata storage. Maybe drop a bunch of older cheap HDDs into it and see what it can do.
I'd be swapping 2 x Xeon E5450's into that dual processor server, it would be a great budget 8 core gaming machine.
Absolutely. With 150 or so dollars it could be completely transformed into a gaming beast.
That's not a 771/775 server, that's an old Socket 604 server based on Netburst (Pentium 4) Xeons. It's useless.
Maybe the socket 604 core based xeons might work? I think they went all the way up to 6 core processor variants. Although it would be dependant upon the chipset supporting the tigerton or dunnington chips. Normally, I would assume not, but seeing as there is an abundance of core2 era systems there, it stands to reason that the server would be from the same era.
Nice! Lots of that stuff is emerging retro gaming tech, you should take that into consideration. Some sound cards, some video cards, some particular motherboards & CPUs are already getting quite expensive - especially when in a clean and tested condition. :)

Dual CPU's don't scale well just like GPU's

OMG XEON...i still use it 2019..
The PSUs can be made more useful with "add 2 PSU" devices. You can build a 1000+ watt power supply from a stack if little ones.
There is an auction place in Clayton Victoria that sells pallet loads of computers and electronics, I saw a few go for around that price. When I was there, IBM in the Melbourne CBD had just replaced most of their computers and that's where they came from.
6:00 Actually, lots of old psus have more power on the 5v than the 12v because thats just what old pcs needed.
If you have a 3D printer you can make custom badges to replace all those DELL and HP badges.
Those lil dells could sell for 100-150 bucks I have three Optiplex 780's with 8gb ddr3 ram, and Q6600 quad core cpu's, downside to these is the onbourd graphics have no drivers that work with Windows 10 and the PSU's are terribly weak so graphics cards are limited.
I wouldn't pay more than 50 for a 775
The core 2 Dell Inspiration PC can be pin/tape modded on the cpu to run up to 3-3.2ghz without touching the Bios or a software as these motherboards do not allow overclocking.
I tried it out and it worked great!
I used a heatsink out of an older PC which was huge like the ones you have and my i7 3770 went from 72c to 61c under load... Those heatsinks work WONDERS.
that's the same price for a 4 gigabytes of RAM for the whole pallet

You should have taken all the rear case fans too
You could build LED RGB LOL computers in those cases if you would find a handy workshop, where is possible to cut plexiglass as in shape of those sidepanels (+ invent a simple way to screw them on)
if a PSU 5V rail has a bigger spec than 12V, doesn't mean that it's really bad, it's just made for older systems that need more power on 5V than 12V
i have never ever seen such an high quality video recording the face like a Vlog. wow
The 5 volt rail on older power supplys had to give more amps because the old hardware was requiring more amps on the 5 volt and not so much the 12 volt rail :)
Nothing to do with crappy psu's
