Oh man, next time I'll go with you guys for sure. Marco asked me if I wanted to go, but since it was my first time in Taiwan I wanted to take the time to just be a tourist for a couple of days. But now that I see this, I kinda regret it, haha. Cheers my man!
Those scrap yards are right up my ally, as I always make sure to check e-waste bin when I'm at my local county recycling drop off, thankfully I never have to pay, just be quick about it, and don't get hurt👍
Finding that much LGA1150 goodness is lucky. The G3258 anniversary Pentium and i7-5775C were the only times Intel were thinking outside the box at all during the dark decade of them rehashing the same 4core rubbish over and over and they were both LGA1150. Haswell also fixed the hyperthreading bug that Sandy and Ivy bridge had where no longer the i5 would beat the i7 in certain workloads and games so it was the first time an i7 was the best buy. This all makes LGA1150 the hardest motherboards to track down.
the X99 board + Xeon for that price is definitely my favourite deal you got. X99 is such a good platform still, that good I even use it as my main - 5930K/RX 480
That first scrap yard looks a lot like one you went to a few years ago? The X 99 seems like an amazing deal. Speaking of the X99 mobo there was a sticker on it I think it was HUANANZHI. Newegg here in the US has new versions for sale by the same company. Thanks for sharing Bryan.
Great entertaining and educational video! I remember back in my hometown, in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴, when I was around 12 i had my first computer, it as a slim Compaq with slim CD DRIVE, pentium 3 ~800 MHz, 256MB RAM AND 10 GB HDD. I went to this place where they sold everything you can think of, and I got myself a 64MB graphics card. It was So special because I was learning how to “fix” 😂 computers. My dad bought me the Graphics. I started earning a bit of cash here and there after having my PC.
its the bios batery that causes most damage to boards when wet - the 2011 floods in se qld showed so much damage just from electrolosys. amazing how much damage a 3v cell can do.
Used parts will always be easier to sell because if something happens its just that one part which you got for cheap. Buying whole used rigs on the other hand has to many chances for the buyer to get burnt. If the seller is small time and doesnt have any reputation for selling top tier long lasting pc's then the price will be barely worth it.
Here in New Zealand, on TradeMe, some used PC parts sell really well individually, but not as whole systems. So it's better to buy bulk deals and sell the valuable parts off separately.
Man those Asus h81 matx boards that you picked up I made a killing on back in the day. Used to buy them off of chinese parts sites for 20 dollars shipped to my house and paired it with an i5 4590 or 4690 and whatever graphics card I could get at the time. I still have a couple people I sold them to that are using them to this day and they are still getting what they need out of them. Man I love TYC parts hunts like this
The best deal? That X99 board with the Xeon! I have the same board over here, unfortunately a faulty USB stick broke it. But this board should handle the 18 Core monster 2696 v3 just fine.
Both my kid's machines have H81M boards in them, and they have for...good lord, since they were brand new! Amazing motherboards, been upgraded CPU and RAM wise over the years, solid performers, so I'm going to go with those for my favorite picks.
💯 the GPU is crazy good. I am keeping an eye out for a smaller 3060 12GB and they are easily $250+ used here in the US. I am also curious what Xeon you ended up with. I am a BIG fan of x99/2011v3
The i5 4590 is the best deal for that socket and performs almost identically to the 4670. Solid choice for the uber-budget builds you'd be doing nowadays with that socket. I don't think the hyper-threading of the i7 really gets you that much when you're talking about the overall limitations of that gen.
Definitely depends on the game but having 8 threads can really help out in some modern games, especially on the 1 and 0.1% lows. Plus its really hard to flip a pc with a 4-threaded i5 nowadays lol. If 4th gen i7s are reasonably priced where you live its definitely worth it over any of the i5s. I used a i5-4690k for a few years and I decided to upgrade because of the micro stuttering that would happen in some demanding games.
Wow, some awesome deals there. It takes time to sift through the trash and reach the treasure. And that 3060 12Gb - jealous. I'm looking at one of those for my Blender box. I fried my last video card.
I'd wash them with detergent and water, then rinse with distilled water and dry it thoroughly. The compressor works reasonably well, but doesn't get the grime. Ion water is better than Pocari Sweat if you can get hold of it. :) That is hella cheap though.
Those aren't bad deals, I run an i7 4770 with an RX 580 (close to GTX 1060) and I still can run all modern games at 1080p with good frame rates. If you bundle a whole gaming PC you could maybe charge 300$ USD? It's not that spectacular but I guess you consider it worth.
Brian, please come back to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). You would be surprised by the flood of used GPU here ATM. Also, there are a lot of Intel chipset 115x combos here as people are dumping their old DDR3 system to upgrade to DDR4 and DDR5.
the best place to look for used pcs is father or brother workplace, you will find 4th and 5th gen cpu s thrown out because the IT guy just doesn't want to hear any complaints
Would you overclock i7 4770k on that H81 mobo you mentioned? There e are not much phases there, iirc there are 3 chokes...no heatsinks on vrms...so just from your perspective of much more experienced builder, will you OC or you'll leave it stock? Doesn't really matter if it's i74770k or i5 4690k...or does it? I mean they are not 200W+ cpus so it should be fine, maybe? Another thing, just an observation, I always liked those M variants of mobos with 4 slots for ram. 2 was good but 4 was squeezing a year or two more of usage just because of ram capacity

Electrically or chemically?
The used part market is hot right now. But I’ve noticed it’s harder to sell the used PCs at a reasonable price. Same in aus?
