Using dishwasher would be wrong as hell . Because of the fat and germs, bacterias 🦠 in the dishwasher. Washer maybe, but not loose , in a mesh bag. But , risky . What if mesh bag will open . Not because Lego has germs and dirt on them . By the way , washer is pretty gross too , and has a lot of bacterias in it, if it’s not a brand new machine . So, washing in a bucket 🪣 is the best choice !
You aren't going to make your clothes somehow dirtier by washing them after you have washed Lego in the machine. The same for a dishwasher for that matter. I think the big issue with a washing machine would be small parts "escaping" and plugging up the drain screen or even jamming the pump. I experienced losing the pump on a washing machine from a small earring my daughter lost. I had to take it apart to remove it and my machine was fine. A dishwasher has wash cycles that are scalding hot and a heating element for a drying cycle. You'd really really have to be careful to not melt your Lego parts. I think plain old soap and water in the metal trash can you showed is ideal. If any of the parts have any smell, you could pour some vinegar over the parts and then rinse with water after.
I think random debris from the LEGO could clog up the system after a while. I wash a lot of LEGO so I don’t want to have to do maintenance. But I don’t think my cloths will be dirtier but it’s like if you stuck a fork into a pile of crap, you could clean and disinfect it completely but I wouldn’t like the idea of putting it in my mouth again 😅
@@EpikBricks You should invest in an intimates lingerie washing bag with tiny holes and a zipper. It's a mesh bag women use for their fragile items in the washing machine. Small things don't get lost and shoe strings don't tangle with your clothes. Then you can add Platinum Dawn and hose them down in a container in the backyard and dry them in the sun. Sun helps to kill germs. Just don't leave them out long enough to fade the colors. 🏆.
We had a kitten that pissed in my older brother's Legos. Somehow I got blamed for it and my mother put the Legos in the dishwasher which fucked them up. They won't connect and some pieces shrunk.
You can get durable jumbo ziplock bags, add Platinum Dawn, fill half way with water, add Legos, remove air, twist top then shake and bake them in the bag like shaking a martini... before you do your straining method to make sure germs and dirt are aggressively cleaned off as well. 🏆. You can also try this with dilluted alcohol and water. Shake bag vigorously, then clean with liquid soap or soak Lego pieces for an hour afterwards.
A couple years ago I bought a used hard to find set for our son off ebay. The darn things stunk like cigarettes and there was a dead cockroach jammed up underneath one of the pieces. I just threw them out. I only buy new sets now, or the Chinese knockoffs, some of which are pretty decent but don't really have that signature Lego "snap", if you will.
Since you don't his in bulk get a old washer drum mount it with a pole going through middle then weld a pulley on to it and have a small electric motor turn it over a kitty pool those plastic ones full of water and bleach and just let it tumble and turn and clean in there for a few hours and you can do a huge amount at once with no effort and for better cleaning action throw a bunch of those scrub daddy sponges inside like 30 of them and they will knock off the dirt and grime with out ruining the pieces and you could also put a old bed sheet or two in there for cushion so they don't chip or get the corners rounded off from tumbling for a few hours but you could do thousand and thousands of Legos at once
Also the dishwasher has warm water so it can melt the pieces
Hopefully anyone using a washing machine would use the cold setting 😅

Well I have always used the dish washer! But what I do is put it in an underwear bag or some type of netted bag that closes. Works a treat
