- Joe Pass & Roy Clark - 1993 - I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You)
Joe Pass - Guitar
Roy Clark - Guitar
John Pisano - Rythym Guitar
Jim Hugart - Bass
Colin Bailey - Drums
Its lovely to hear these guys play together because they are famous for different genres. Roy is the guy from Hee Haw and Joe is the Downbeat Poll winner. But so many people fail to realize that great musicians tend to transcend genre. Each could have succeeded in the other's genre, but events took them down different roads, only to bring them together at last, to our benefit and theirs.
I think what Joe said at the end sums it up. Not only is the rhythm section top notch but they are all good guys. Chemistry and niceness is everything!
The great ones are always humble
A great video documentary of this session with Roy Clark and Joe Pass. The relaxed nature of all the musicians is so wonderful to see - to say nothing of the gentle greatness of the music! I love these videos on the 'inside' of a studio session. Joe Pass is such a humble being - giving focus and credit to the other musicians!
JP was a great musician and such a nice guy.
There has been a huge vacuum since his demise.
Joe Pisano just blows me away with his rhythm playing.
that video is wonderful, i love joe pass, his jazz sound very good
Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins all incredible world famous players, THEN there's the Joe Pass`s and Barney Kessel`s operating on a different level. Like Master to Maestro. Like Bochelli to Pavarotti or Porsche to Bugatti.
joe pass plays low key in this number precisely because he's NOT a premadonna...he could have run circles around roy but opted to make the song great, versus showcasing his great skills..ergo he's not simply an outstanding guitarist but a fantastic musician...may he r.i.p.
I knew Roy was good but he as good chops watching these videos, didn't know he was that versatile. Of course joe is amazing
Man this stuff mellows me out, kinda like a brain message.
I'll bet it was Joe's rhythm section that re-imagined the song as a boss nova. It shouldn't work, but it does.
Pisano on rhythm? Oh, how I wish he'd chased the ball on this one too. But aaaah, all his tasty 3-note chords in the background. Lovely
Mr. Joe Passalaqua has a couple of guitar books. There was one with an Orange cover very helpful.
When watching this series of videos I'm reminded of how good his sense of time was. Many people say after listening to him they're in a different state of mind. Joe could have been a good Hindu lol Even if he looks like Meher Baba
Spent many evenings at "John Pisano's Guitar Night."
...or Merle Travis & Joe Maphis.
Doesn't hurt having John Pisano in there, either. I GOTTA get this album.
....Like Hank Williams with a bossa nova beat.
Great
Marcelo Maya - Brasil
Never rated Clark. Pass was the man
cowboy tunes are good enough for Bill Frisell
Very tasty!
@waitaminute991 Looks like a Heritage Byrdland copy. Heritage is the old Gibson factory in Kalamazoo and the Byrdland Roy prefers has a short scale of 22+ inches.
@BattyCuss I miss him...
Yeah but how's Joe's banjo pickin?
@waitaminute991 Heritage Roy Clarke Signature
You guitar picking wanna be's this is how guitars are played. The rest are only distortion experts and that ain't music
Alan Holdsworth plays ok...for a guy using "distortion."
roy clarke bores compared to jp
+jonnyrokr there is a big difference in skills between Roy Clark and Joe Pass but....that does not take away the end result here. This is very nice music. That's all that matters. A great Hank Williams song. Who would have thought it could be done this well?
Roy is great at flatpicking
Hey but Roy Clark flew his own plane.!
