We just purchased the same safe and we love it!! Don't hesitate to buy this safe, it is awesome. I love the modifications you did to yours so much that I have all the same exact parts on the way and plan to copy it to a "T". Great job and thank you so much for sharing! You saved me a boat load of time deciding how to dehumidify and light our safe!
Safe looks great. The one thing I would caution you on is that safes are not coated/protected on bottom. Since yours is in the garage typically a mat or something is placed underneath to keep the moisture from the porous concrete from causing rusting to the bottom of the safe. If you have something there or someone else noted it, my apologies.
Thanks for the tips. I completed my lighting, etc... pretty much exactly like you did. With my garage open and it raining outside, it was 51% humidity which is pretty acceptable. I was worried at first because humidity was high with the evadry and the dry rod, but after a few days, it was down to 45-51. I only put led's accross the top and the sides which made the wiring much much easier and it still provides plenty of lighting. I also purchased an Acu Rite Indoor Humidity Monitor from amazon.
There are four holes at the bottom of the safe you can use to bolt it to the floor. Depending on the safe you can remove the bottom shelf for access. Some have black plastic plugs on the bottom shelf you can remove to find the holes. You will have to mark the holes then move the safe out of the way and drill holes in the concrete. Most hardware stores sell safe anchoring kits. I would recommend using larger heavy duty washers instead.
Joe, The hole was already in the back of the safe. The only thing you have to do is remove the plug in the back and drill through the fire board. Just a standard drill does the job. Then run a heavy gauge wiring through the back and connect up to a all in one electrical socket. Both heavy gauge wiring and socket outlet were purchased at Lowes. This is the box that is wired up.. I was about to buy this exact safe when tractor supply randomly had a sale on the 36 G safe for this past weekend, only $600. Well that got the wife happy to have that giant sucker 😂
*Update January 2022* We have moved almost 3 years ago and since the move… nothing has changed. Everything on the safe and the lighting is still working great. I did have to purchase a new EvaDry unit. The original one went out after about 7 years. The power is still working great and the lights perform like the day they were installed.
Thanks for the update. I was debating on which lights to get for my safe. My biggest worry was how long they do or don't last. 7+ years and yours are still working. That's pretty darn good. Personally, I almost bought the same safe, but ended up going with a Liberty Safe (after watching some pry test videos) with an old school mechanical lock. It's pretty much the same size and rating etc.
I know this is a very old post, but I still wanted to say thanks for the ideas and material list. Just bought a Winchester safe, same size, so looking to install lighting and dry rod. I'll be a copy cat on this if you don't mind. :)
Congrats on a really nice safe (Winchester just exudes Americana). BTW, I can personally testify to the advantageous effects of the Eva-Dry unit...I live in a very humid region of this Great Land and honestly these have allowed my valuables to remain in pristine condition (I swear by them).
*UPDATE* 3/1/16 Since the last update, the actual internal lock did go bad. I did purchase the extended warranty on the lock when I first purchased the safe from Winchester. I called Winchester and sent email to file claim. They handled the claim like a champ. They contacted a locksmith and he called to schedule a time to come out. They showed up with all parts needed and replaced the lock no questions asked. Winchester paid locksmith directly and is back working properly.
I have the same safe! Love it!!! Quite a bit better than the Canon's that are available. Like the lighting you have, I'm in the process of doing that also. Did not realize there was a hole in that bottom corner. Have to take points away for your wife doing the electrical though. She should have been baking you some cookies or holding the light for you. Lol
subzer2323 the one at TSC doesn’t seem the same because I’m looking into getting one but it’s not 4 way locking lugs and they are 1” not 1-1/4 and also there’s 8 locking lugs, the safe in this video looks like it has 12 or 14
Phil, The LED lights are all one strip, but we used connectors to use the lights where we wanted them. The strip would not have covered the whole safe. We had to cut and connect.
Safe, lights, wiring, dry rod... Everything.. About $850.00. And to the guy asking what a dry rod is.. It helps control the climate so no rusty occurs. Just google it.
**UPDATE** 7/24/15 Since installing the safe with everything in it, everything is still working perfectly to this point. I have not seen any surface rust on any of my guns. I also have a decent amount of ammo in there and no moisture problems with that either. No power issues (thanks to my wife for the electrical work) and no lighting issues. Everything is still working like it did the day it was installed including the safe.
How do you run your wire tho to put the plug into the safe? I have a plug like 5 feet away from my safe but not sure where the wiring runs in the wall.
Everything except the power cord and socket, were purchased online through Amazon. The power cord and socket were purchased at Lowes. All brand names are in the description.
purchased a safe on black friday and still cant decide where to put it.Is'nt it easy for burglars to break into a safe that is in the garage?or they can chain the safe to a vehicle and pull it out?
The garage is inconvenient. Open floor plans show off your goods, so pick your most accessible ground floor bedroom and bolt it to your foundation. You don't want a garage intruder between you and your safe.
I have the same exact safe that I purchased on Black Friday. I can't seem to find the hole that you were talking about. I've been trying to find a way to install an outlet without breaching the walls
While looking at the back of the safe, the hole is located on the lower right hand side approximately 6 inches from the bottom and 2 inches from the right. Please see a partial from a previous post below: "In regards to the hole on the back of the safe, the safe that was reviewed is a TS-22-11 model safe only found at Tractor Supply Company. While looking at the back of this safe you will notice on the lower right hand side of the safe a pre-drilled hold in the sheet metal. The hole is not finished through the fire board on the inside of the safe or the carpeting. You will need to first cut a hole in the carpeting on the inside of the safe before finishing the hole as you would not want to cause damage to the carpeting. Once you have that complete you can finish the hole from the back by puncturing the fire board by any means you choose. Some people prefer a hammer and screwdriver and some prefer to use their drill gun." Posted by: Joseph Woycheshin (joseph.woycheshin@winchestersafes.com)
You will find the hole on the back of the safe, drill thru from the back side into the inside thru that hole' to install electricity, just be sure the insulation is intact and no wiring is touching the metal on the safe where it enters thru the hole!
OK thanks for the info. So you bought the 150 LED sm5050 and are these the connectors you are talking about, HitLights LED PCB RGB LED Strip Any Angel Turn Connector, 4 Conductor, For SMD5050 or SMD 3528 RGB Color Changing LED Strip, Strip to Strip, 4 pcs? Sorry for all the questions, but I have never messed with LED lights...
For your LED lighting, did you buy one long strip that goes around the door edge and then smaller strips for under the shelves? Or is it all one strip? Thanks!
could you give us more details on the led lighting kit? i found one on amazon "TaoTronics Waterproof 150 Color Changing SMD5050 LED Lighting Strip Kit RGB 16.4ft, 2038kit" . Is this what you used?
No, we used to manufacture a series of safes that included a "backup" key, however the safes that are being manufactured to date from Granite Security Products, Inc. do not have that functionality. Nevertheless, should your battery fail, simply replace the battery with a new Energizer or Duracell 9 volt Alkaline battery, DO NOT USE A LITHIUM BATTERY. You will have to wait about 5 minutes while your safe goes into a time penalty mode for removing the battery. After the 5 minute wait simply enter your existing 6 digit code and rotate the handle to open your safe. FYI: To clear the rumors, the keypad does NOT store your combination in its membrane. The code is stored in the lock unit which is on the inside of the door itself, unable to be tampered with by a burglar during an attack. The keypad to the safe is like a keyboard to a computer, break it or take it off and the computer still requires a password to be unlocked. Those bolts don't matter. You can easily cut through the thin sheet metal on the sides and back. Those safes only keep the honest people out.
@hebs007wrx, Yes. That is what we used and it is still working great. We also used Velcro strips to adhere the light strips to the side.

For the lights? Trying to figure how you concealed the power cord throughout the safe
Awesome lighting! Great setup. Im trying to decide between the winchester 24 gun at $699 or spend $300 more and get the cannon 48 gun wide body
Do you have any photos of the hole where you ran powered through

Bill Wolfe Sorry for a very late reply, I'm not on here all that much. It's a hole at the very bottom that you have to punch through.
Do you still have it ? Any problems after 8 years ?
I do still have it and everything still works great!
649.99 nj ..but how good is the lock???
was it difficult to drill the hole in the back to feed power??
How did you connect the light strip to the safe? Hot glue, staples, what? it looks great. Getting the same safe and wanting to do the same.
thebadpig1 the LED strip has an adhesive backing and just stuck it to the carpet in the safe.

Lightning still going strong after all these years
Both are still rock solid!
How do you move it? I’d buy it but I can’t figure out how I’d move it from garage to my basement
