I had always heard that Steve McQueen would sometimes ask directors to cut some of his lines, as referenced here by Martin Landau. Moreover, he was a very fine actor, who could convey a lot of emotion and dynamic range with just his facial expression and body language but needed time and presence on screen to embody his character - often he felt that too many lines sort of got in the way of achieving this end. Most actors by contrast are frequently trying to obtain prominent roles which provide the most lines possible in order to increase their screen time while delivering dialogue. To his way of thinking, having too many lines can actually handicap you as an actor - he could convey a lot with just a look.
Steve was one of a kind, he lived life on his terms, won't get another one like him
I love how stoned he was/looked in Tom Horn. What a fella
Loved !Nevada Smith
