    BTW: The reason that I didn't do any landings down at the river was that this is a CONDOR SANCTUARY. Scaring nesting endangered birds out of their nest leaving an egg to die is unthinkable for anyone other than Trevor. In this video I showed that it was possible to glide to an AIRPORT from where his engine "died" with 4 miles to spare so there was no need anyway.

      This whole btw was chicken soup for my soul to hear. Not leaving an egg to die😢😢😢 I have no idea what it is to be a pilot and or how you causally know about the birds is everything. Whether it’s just the person in you to know about that stuff or it’s part of the learning process for flying, but that melted my heart. 🤍🤍🤍 Shout our to you for that🤍🤍🤍

      @@crystalkerstal Forgot to add that the map has a notice on it:
      "California Condors (an endangered species) [...] Pilots are requested to maintain a 3000 ft terrain clearance (9000+ MSL recommended) when flying over or near sanctuaries"
      MSL meaning mean sea level.

      Hell without knowing the area and as a pilot of a Cessna 340 with a markedly higher stall speed I was immediately looking at that river bed and thinking, "Yup the insurance company's aircraft might get bent a little but that will work if all else fails". Granted despite having a pair of engines I'd not be making such a flight without an alternate planned for every part of the flight but then I am not a youtube stunt person or a utterly reckless ignoramus.

      Scooby, I just saw more stuff on the changes to the plane from the 2016 photo of it. Maybe ask these questions as well?
      I noticed some other things in his video too. Compare it to the 2016 photos of the plane. What looks like the exhaust pipe on the bottom of the engine, has a very tight cut out hole around it. But after TJ has the plane the hole is enlarged and goes to the top of where the purple and blue pin striping begins. Then look at the engine cover where the cylinder heads are. In the 2016 photo everything looks pristine. In the TJ photos the engine cover in the area where it curves down is beat to crap. And, directly behind it the fuselage is cut in the same area from the engine cover all the way back to the window. Why is that?

    One question from here in the UK. When your plummeting toward the ground before deploying your parachute, looking for a suitable landing site, how important is it to swap hands with your selfie stick, roll on your back and carefully frame a shot with the aircraft above you while you remain in frame. Asking for a friend…..

    Scooby also had the option of leaving the plane mid flight and positioning the aircraft over his shoulders using the landing gear. Mantaining a straight back and looking forward, landing with his feet carefully by balancing power between the quads, hamstrings and calves. He could then overhead press the plane and lower it safely on the ground.

Also, demolition experts and engineers are trying to figure out how 3 buildings fall at 9.8m/s (speed of acceleration of gravity). The only way that would be scientifically possible is if all three buildings floors have way in order to the exact millisecond

    What I love about your video is that you don't presume to know the conditions of the fields in the mountains based on a flight sim. You actually flew the same route and followed protocol and landed at an airport. The fields may have been the best option at a lower altitude, but he was cruising high enough to make it to the airport which he should have already noted in flight preparations. Either he's a bad pilot or a bad person.

      Another point is, let’s assume he really a) couldn’t land in any valley areas and b) couldn’t cruise to the airport. Wouldn’t the most obvious question be, why would you put yourself in that position as a pilot? You should always have an “out” in case of an engine failure. Your route can’t take you into places where you have zero options if your engine goes out.

    • @bbgun061
      @bbgun061 2 года назад +1

      If I wasn't sure that I could make it to an airport, I wouldn't risk trying. Putting it down in a field is the best alternative. But in that situation, with enough altitude to glide out of the mountains, there are plenty of farms and fields in flat terrain for landing.

    Great vid. Thanks. I agree that his crash is suspect. He could claim that he made his decision to bail out early because if he'd waited until later he'd be too low to bail out. But there are many other problems. Flying such a small plane while wearing a parachute is highly unusual. He rarely wore a parachute in his prior flying videos. Also, the 1940 Taylor plane he used isn't seen in his earlier videos. He may have bought this cheap, bare-bones plane just for this video. In the video, he claims he told the FAA/NTSB right away. But, local reporting says he waited several days and didn't report it until urged to do so by airport employees. Worse - he hired a helicopter to recover the wreckage himself and move it to an unknown location. Disturbing aviation crash debris before letting the NTSB investigate is a big no-no and is, itself, probably a crime of some sort. Even if the NTSB can't adjudicate this as a deliberate act, he should suffer a penalty for moving the wreckage without permission. My biggest concern is that he departed the airplane and left it pilotless while in a stable, level glide. With the right winds it could easily have glided miles before crashing and ended up at a location where there were people, vehicles and structures. I hope the NTSB gets to the bottom of this.

    • @scooby1961
      @scooby1961  2 года назад +24

    • @vlnow
      @vlnow 2 года назад +8

      It might be hard to sell that altitude was a factor in his decision to bail early when the video shows him falling for at least 20plus seconds. Adding the altitude lost during parachute opening, that puts him 3500ft minimum below exit point when his parachute is fully flying. Thats a lot of altitude to just burn for no reason. Trevor has many hundreds of skydives and is also a skydiving instructor btw, so he knows what he is doing when it comes to parachuting

    • @MrBrandenS
      @MrBrandenS 2 года назад +3

      Totally. Even if he couldn't make it to the airport for being lower there appeared to be a ton of flat area near the airport that Scooby demonstrated in his video that could serve as a good landing pad. He didn't have to land in the mountains at all even though that valley appeared real nice for doing so.
      It appeared he had plenty of time to make some calculated decisions first but choose to bail out without any explanation as to why. He did not try anything to save the aircraft.

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 2 года назад +3

      @@MrBrandenS While it was a flight sim, I saw one video of someone taking the approach of landing it in the valley and did so without issue. Again, there are many variables. Wind speed and direction being one of them. And I won’t use a flight sim as proof that he could have landed the plane. But I will use it as proof of his landing options. He had plenty of them.

    When being questioned:
    Trevor: If you notice in the begning of the video, you can see me concerned when looking at my gauges and was worried about performance.
    NTSB: But you continued with the flight anyways?
    Trevor: Ridge Wallet sponsored flight , so I had a financial obligation to continue.
    NTSB: There's no record of you squwaking 7600 or 7700, why is that?
    Trevor: The sponsor, Ridge Wallet, it blocks RFID signals... 🤷🏼‍♂️
    NTSB: At what point did you contact ATC, either sector or local to declare an emergency?
    Trevor: I unplugged my headset
    NTSB: Before ditching, you had plenty of altitude and weather was good. At what point did you attempt to restart the engine?
    Trevor: I ran out of fuel
    NTSB: So you departed knowing you didn't have the fuel to make your intended destination?
    Tevor: Even though I was sponsored, by Ridge Wallet, 100ll is expensive and I needed a new selfie stick.
    NTSB: The aircraft was flying and you were clearly in control and maintaining a moderate glide, so why bail out?
    Trevor: I had my parachute on.
    NTSB: Do you typically fly with it on and rigged?
    Trevor: No, it was the first time, I just had a feeling I was going to need it that day.
    NTSB: What have you that feeling?
    Trevor: That was the plan from the beginning.
    NTSB: I see, is that also why you failed to notify us of the incident and tampered with the aircraft and crash site?
    Trevor: Obviously. Wait, that was a trick question

    Imagine ditching a plane for 476K views? Over the lifetime of the video it might get a million or two. Even if it was a very cheap plane, that can't make any economic sense. And the gliding aspect is why I like planes so much more than a Heli which is inherently unstable. You have to constantly make small corrections just to hover.

    • @scooby1961
      @scooby1961  2 года назад +7

      I cant wait to see who owned the plane, how much he bought it for, and if it was legally airworthy or not. Flying an un-airworthy plane alone could lose him his liscense.

      @@scooby1961 I watched his vid and he just has too many cameras. Even with his story about spreading his friend's ashes, his cameras are too numerous and the camera in the back is perfect for recording a crash. It's very suspicious. You did an excellent job demonstrating Aviate and Navigate (best glide and picking the landing spot) but before Communicate I would have gone through at least a flow check to try and restart the engine and depending on how much time I had took out the checklist and gone through the restart procedure there. Preparing the cockpit for a potentially hard landing is an important step too.

    Took a while to get to this one (actually watched the clip edit first), and have to say this adds more nails to Jacobs coffin. It's probably been commented but, whether a 912 or a Lycosaurus, if properly set to idle, and the prop is windmilling, you are actually getting more drag than if the prop is stopped (even a three blade), although I'm pretty sure Jacobs got down below best glide to stop the prop for effect. Hint, if you ever have a terminal engine failure (no gas, thrown rod, etc), and you have some height, carefully get as slow as you can to stop the prop, then assume best glide. It will increase your performance a little.
