Tip from a pilot here. Stop trimming for a lower rate of decent. That's completely unimportant, and isn't something you should even be looking at in a forced landing situation. You should trim for best glide. Look up what the best glide speed is for your aircraft and trim for that. Best glide is the speed that gives you the greatest amount of horizontal travel per altitude loss. More time aloft isn't of any advantage in an emergency situation. On the other hand, increased glide distance increases the amount of area available to you. More area means more options. More time aloft means more time to stare at your limited options.
Absolutely right, trim for best glide, min sink keeps you airbourne longer but your range is much reduced. Another tip look over the nose at a point you wish to reach. If that point is moving up the canopy, further above the nose you will not make that point, if however the point you have chosen is moving to under the nose you will make it. Both the above assume still air with no lift from thermals, hills or wave and conversely with no downdrafts. Another rule of thumb, if the rate of descent increases, increase your airspeed. The same if you are landing short, push the nose down to increase the speed. As you probably gathered I am a glider pilot, very used to having no engine and knowing exactly how far I can glide for my height. The last glider I owned would glide for 80 nm from 10,000ft in still air.
Where's the wind
The Trevor-button needs to be implemented in MSFS2020. Hit it to insta-jump out from your aircraft with a fire extinguisher taped to your leg.
Selfy-stick in hand...
@@don7294 That selfie stick brings down the terminal velocity. In the end it may even help to land after the plane :)
@@chargehanger Good point.
Trevor is certainly trending on RUclips these days, but not in the way he envisioned! lol!
Lots of aviation channels are getting hits on this, but not Trevor. 😂
I've only followed "74 Gear" before this, but Trevor came up in recommendations and now I'm hooked on all the reports.
His video barely made 1 million views, a month later... 😬
Imagine risking jail time for a few thousand bucks in ad revenue and sponsorship money LMAO
Its funny how people at this point are doing the NTSB’s job for them at this point and definitively proving Treavor Jacob fucked up big time.
Cause this kind of thing is what would be done in a crash investigation, running through simulations in a bushcraft type aircraft at the area in question to determine if a relatively safe landing could have been preformed, which at this point i think we all know the answer.
But Trevor had to deal with the weight of all the bull shite he always carries with him.
Bailing out with his selfie stick was the only option...
🤣
you win lmao
I think his plan was to grab hold of the aircraft with one hand as he bailed out and bring it down safely with him on the parachute, but he accidentally grabbed the selfie stick instead.
If you suffer engine failure in a flight simulator, you can jump out of your chair. Parachute is optional.
Don't forget to ride the thermals and the updrafts. Could probably stay up until dark on a good day.
Wait, so a small propeller plane like that could be used like an ASK-21 glider? That is pretty fascinating.
The only reason I know about gliding is cos of a nice YTber fellow named Bruno Vassel.
it cant, he was joking
@@Rilex037 Thank you. 😮
i mean, every plane can glide. but cannot stay up there, that's why gliders have insane long wings and little weight.
Some other pilots determined he could have glided back to an airport with several thousand feet to spare. So there was no need to even land in the bush.
Remember to hit that like button and send in your landing zones.
Sir, I have four words to say to you and Trevor Jacob after this colon:
*Don't crash your planes* . :)
It was directly over the river about a mile right
I landed in Lions Canyon on the river bed in a piper cub. Went well actually.
The flight attendant never came by to offer me a drink ?
🤣🤣 I didnt even see the video yet Im already laughing
If the FAA determines this was intentional, I would be worried if I was him about what crimes the Federal Park Service could charge him with. Since he was on Federal land, it makes it a federal case not only in the air but on the ground. I'm sure he violated a plethora of US forest service laws, which are covered under United States Code, subjecting him to fines and imprisonment. He might get the good ol federal double whammy.
You almost tipped the plane over but hey it wasn't that serious! You did a nice landing also!
It would be FUNNY AS HELL if someone came up with a map update that placed runways all around this now-infamous location!
You didn’t calculate the weight of his friends alleged ashes in a ziplock bag and his ridgewallet.
Not to mention the weight of his ego...
Santa Ynez Airport
Yep. Scooby1961 did it for real.
You should be using the meta data for that day cause you could use some lift from somewhere
24th November 2021 50 year anniversary of Dan Cooper jumping from plane.
Someone really does need to come up with a Trevor Jacob add-on mod for FS2020. Sky diving out of a perfectly good airplane over the mountains would be a blast!
Gotta say, totally nailed Saint Barbara
there’s best glide speed for distance and a slower speed best glide for least sink
Dam - I did this last night in MSFS and landed in that exact riverbed. I also then tried an engine start, and to mm amazement, the engine worked fine, it was just like Jacabs real plane, and I flew it out.
Ah great job. I've just posted a Trevor Jacobs landing challenge too, tho it's more or a Trevor Jacobs parody lol enjoyed your video tho.
Hmm RUclips isn't a "community" it's an advertising company 🙄
It is easier when you can pan your view around outside the cockpit, you should do the challenge only using the cockpit POV only and Trevor Jacob couldn’t use panoramic views to find a landing site
Wish they would add this as an unlock award on steam for MSFS.
since you brought up that this is a light aircraft, now your challenge is to do the same thing in an otter or large twin engine.
just to rub more salt in Trevor's wound👍😎
Still better then Trevor Jacob.
I don't understand why the airplane didn't go into the ground and disappear like Flight 93 in PA?
The real challenge is bailing out, falling 1 minute, and still landing after the plane crashes.
@TypicalSim
Hello. I was wondering if you would be willing to check your simulator with that aircraft to check some aircraft performance for me. Using Trevor's freefall time, and the vantage points we're given a very loosely estimated the Tcraft to be require ~3000 ft/min decent rate. Realistically 2000 ft/min would likely also mee the criteria, a key piece of information we don't have is how long Trevor would have been under canopy for. 4 minutes vs 6 minutes makes a very large difference in the Tcraft's required rate of decent to beat him to the ground.
This sparked an argument with someone who has flown a similar model Tcraft where they claim that kind of descent rate isn't possible with an empty Tcraft, period.
I decided to take a fresh look at a possible decent rate for this aircraft based on clues in the footage.
How I did this was look at the elevation change over time on the final view from the aircraft hitting the ground.
From the last point where we have a reference to the terrain height, the aircraft appears to be abeam a hillside of 3040 ft according to google topographical information.
The impact location is at 2420 ft for a 620 ft difference. There are a couple of edits within this timeframe, but it's fairly clear the time between these events is 12 to 14 seconds.
620 ft / 12 sec = 51.7 ft/s = 3100 ft/min
620 ft / 14 sec = 44.3 ft/s = 2657 ft/min
In addition to this you can roughly calculate the distance in a curve between the two points using Google Maps 'measure' which is ~3100 ft.
3100 ft / 12 sec = 258.3 ft/s = 176 mph
3100 ft / 14 sec = 221.4 ft/s = 151 mph
That angle works out to only ~11-12 degrees nose down, which also looks to be what we see in the video.
I'm curious if you're able to achieve ~150 mph with about a 12 degree nose down attitude and or what attitude is required to achieve that speed. Additionally, what is the descent rate at in and around that area?
This is so much fun.
If it hadn't been for me showoff, think of all the fun we wouldn't be having proving he was just an embarrassment.
If I was the judge I'd take his licence for 3 yrs and fine for cleanup costs of the forest and all costs associated by the investigators, and let him go.
He'll always be a walking doorknob.
Nice one, good landing 😄
Land something big and goofy lol
Suggestions on what? Haha 😄
@@TypicalSim a g58 with drafts might be possible, but try a 747 for the memes
@@TypicalSim An A380. That is a big, weird useless aircraft. Try landing it in the mountains like where Trevor Jacob could have done an emergency landing.
@@thatguyalex2835 basically impossible but why not try...anything to shame that guy lol
@@tariqsingh3747 Lol ... Agreed. Just to prove a point.
07:57 is probably a realistic looking outcome for the riverbed
Make sure to throw in some wind and turbulence.
Awesome video. Keep on.
Old video, but for the challenge, the same aircraft should be used under the same conditions. The winner is the first one who makes it to an airstrip.
Why...???
So Did Johnny s Ashes make it out of the Crash? I hope his Wallet and Credit Cards made it out along with that Fire Extinguisher, but we will never know if it and the fire extinguisher make it to the ground safely because both are under his clothing and could have been sucked out on his unfortunate Parachute to the ground during his Trip to land in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to go Para Gliding with the Ashes of His BBQ I mean ( Friend ) Wink Wink. But His Selfie Stick and Camera Make it OK. However he Could not Land that aircraft on any of those River Beds or Clearings or even attempt to Land at New Cuyama air strip or The Ranchers Land which is about 4000M North of the Crash Site, Surely from 9000 Ft. That aircraft could have Glided 4000M if his Propeller did not Stop, Must Be Terrifying. After watching his Video I can only Ass-U-Me his Pilots License was not in that Wallet because that is lost and quite possibly his anal virginity after the FAA investigates this Terribly Staged Event.
what are the coordinates?
They're a series of numbers that designate a geographical location, but that's not important right now.
@@otterspocket2826 Very humorous! How about the specific coordinates that can be entered into MFS so as reinact the flight from the time of engine failure
thing is, everyone is going on about how he crashed his plane purely for likes.... but everyone else is giving his stupid actions so much attention! If people just ignored him instead of "breaking down" his video etc etc then he wouldnt be getting all that desired attention. Nice video by the way, I'll pretend it's a ficticious Trevor:-) lol
yes, but it’s all the other guys channels that are benefitting. I haven’t even seen the original TJ video on his channel - no need as it’s on everyone’s else’s!! As an aside, there are some really good breakdowns - fascinating stuff from pilots on the tech details, and flight sim stuff like this one which are both interesting and entertaining.
@@srp01983 Totally agreed. The original video hasn't even reached 1.5 mil views, a full month later. All the saints are doing is exposing his BS in a way a total layman can understand and stacking up evidence so the FAA can ream his ass ASAP. Which I am 100% for!
Is Trevor Jacob a hero?
He's certainly something containing 4 letters.
😐
It’s fair to use a view from the cockpit, all else is cheating!
Interesting how everyone is making money from someone that was trying to make money.
Good for them tbh. They deserve it more than he does!
