I’m 43. Just did 14 legit pushups just because I watched this video. I’m terrified at how hard that 14 was. I’m also proud that I did them. It’s been too long. Man I need to get back at it. I’m not dead yet so I’m going to live while I can.
Yet? You’re not even half way! Get busy livin’! (Also talking to myself here 😉) I turn 43 in a few days. Just woke up for the day, about to do some push ups and get in about 15 minutes of Yoga. I used to do 100 pushups and 100 body weight squats every day in addition to cardio 2-3 days and lifting two days a week until 8 years ago. I dropped the pushups and squats part and I’m about 30 lbs softer than I was then. Let’s f*ing gooo!
Ps everyone: don’t forget to stretch your chest and shoulders after. Door frame or wall stretch.
I started doing workouts at age 45, a couple of years ago. I was so skinny that it took me 2 months to get to the strength just to succeed in doing ONE single pushup for the first time ever in my life.
Now (at 49) and pushing around 40-50 every time, that looks ridiculous. But yes: it is a very heavy exercise if you are just getting into it. Keep it up! :-)
Well done to all in the thread, killing it!

When I joined the military I would constantly get in trouble for falling asleep in tech school. My instructor had me do pushups anytime he caught me. After awhile I just started doing them anytime I felt myself getting nodding off and eventually I made it into a challenge to do 20 pushups every 20 minutes throughout the school day until my arms gave out. Once I was able to complete a full day (420 not including lunch hour) I raised the amount to 30 every 20 minutes and worked on perfecting my form. Once that got too easy I started rotating between normal, wide armed, and diamond pushups. Had some of the best arms in the squadron by the time I graduated.
The wide arm was the only way I could do them in the military because of my girls.

I meeeean kind of, you can do push-ups all you want but you won’t gain much more muscle after a certain time and you won’t gain much strength either. Push-ups are good but you should be running as well, lifting things and keeping all your muscles limb. Push-ups barely work the legs and but are great for core. Going to the gym helps to improve physical health. Regular exercise can reduce the risk of chronic diseases and promote overall health. Secondly, it helps to improve mental health by reducing stress and anxiety levels. Thirdly, it can help you to build a community and make new friends with similar goals. You don’t need a gym but you will get way more benefits using a gym then just doing push-ups. If a fat man just did push-ups all the time he would still be fat right! So I mean put two and two together
You don't need to do most things, but most things require extra effort and specialized machinery to maximize your productivity

Pushups are great for beginners, but for more advanced lifters, eventually they become too easy and hard to gain muscle from. Folks there’s nothing special about push-ups. They said push-ups because that’s the exercise they studied.
The real thing that matters is having a good level of strength relative to your bodyweight. That can be improved just as easily with squats, lunges, chin/pull-ups, planks, rows, you name it.
Be strong and lean if you want a dramatically reduced risk of cardiovascular issues. That’s the takeaway

I've heard the same outcomes from other studies of pushups, the more you can do the lower the chance of dying from pretty much every disease, it's a health tonic for every human.
im 95 and i do 200 pushups the second i wake up and it takes me 10 seconds to do all 200 keep going guys
And I am 96 and i do 201 pushups in 9 seconds.
@@chessmaster1115 dang you good
Dont forget your pullups and cardio youll be good too go
Do pull-ups balance well? Or another excercise is needed to do so.
@@user-kx6ev8op1x yes very well, also dips. Those three are my main staple. Pushups and dips one day and lots of pullups the other.
@@user-kx6ev8op1x Pull ups to avoid muscle imbalance, I would add plank for core and bodyweight squat
And legs
@@user-kx6ev8op1x yep, otherwise you get a imbalance, oh and dont forget legs too

"Correlation does not imply causation"
The ability to do 40 push-ups is directly associated with one's overall physical fitness, but It's not the push-ups preventing cardiovascular decline, rather the fitness associated with the ability to do 40 push-ups, or any other test of fitness at a similar level, that helps prevent it.
That's all just a Giga-brain way of saying that; if your fit enough to do 40 push-ups or any other exercise that is just as hard, then you're risk of heart disease is greatly reduced.
I'm sure most of you already understand this, but if your reaction to this video was thinking "Wow push-ups are great for your heart" then you fell for the 'ol
"correlation = causation"
On the flip side then, being able to do at least 40 pushups is a standard by which you can test your fitness, and indirectly test your heart health
@@adon228 it's not that doing 40 pushups will significantly help your heart, it's that people with healthy hearts usually happen to be able to do 40+ pushups
The goal of being able to do 40 pushups would require discipline and training. Exercise and diet. This would give someone a healthy heart.
@@agame-jv6zv Actually it will significantly help your heart. It pumps blood to your chest which in turn protects your heart and feeds it more white blood cells & oxygen.
There's always a Redditor when you dont want one 😂
I can do a solid 30 pushups and maybe an extra pathetic 10 pushups
Im still working on my form, but i have to admit that i have a problem with quantity over quality
Im just asking out of interest: is it alright if my depth goes from fully extended to a fist from the ground or does it have to touch the ground
I could probably go a set of 50, but then not repeat it for maybe ten minutes. I'm at 400s pretty much most days now, 1.5 hrs. Every few days you break either a rep record or a time record. I went from 75 in a day to 400 in 1.5hrs in one month. I'm not going to go over 500. Now Ive started doing it's hard to stop and you do want to be doing nearly every day.
I do atleast 100 every day in 5 sets of 20, feels awsome mentally and physically,
Im bout to add this to my daily routine in life
20 when i wake up
20 before i goto sleep
DROP AND GIVE ME 20 !!! AND YOU GIVE ME 20 NOW MR. !!!!! - Sgt. Tackleberry ( Police Academy )
I do hit training. Is it good to implement this in my daily routine
Mama in the red tights is additional inspiration
I do…
10 pu - 10sec rest
10 pu - 20sec rest
10 pu - 30sec rest
10 pu - 45sec rest
10 pu - 60sec rest
+5
That’s 50 done in under 3min
Is that good for a complete beginner?
It doesn’t matter what’s good for a beginner it matters what’s good for you keep going eventually you’ll make it to where you wanna be
Any push up helps even 5 a day I started with 1 before bed every day at 17 before sleepong
Muscular build is based on testosterone. If you are or were on psych pills then building muscle or getting stronger will be hard if not permanently impossible. Toxic damage
@@John-rj3nv what’s a psych pill?
yeah seems very good to me
Thanks! I’ll start doing this too!
that is powerful news
I’m in my 50’s. The computer, social media, etc. have made the human being LAZY. I see young kids from elementary to high schools, OBESE and suffering from illnesses of all kinds. Man I’m glad to be from the old school because we had to play outside and run, ride bikes, all exercises. Push ups are great.
Local gyms are full of highschoolers dude what do you mean
And we still ride bikes
You only see what you choose to see
@@pyroteknikk3127 in the 80’s there were no kids 5 years old with diabetes. The obesity rate today is astronomical because of these cell phones and computers. I see the fattest people today than I ever saw. Period
@@MyTake.504hm, I'd say that's more of a parenting proble than a device problem. Most of my peers don't have their lives revolve around this stuff, we balance it. If these modern distractions didn't exist they would be doing something else that is just as unproductive. No excuses, that's a them problem, not a device problem.
No excuses. Even if you have to break it into sets.
Me and my skinny friends started doing them on a per minute basis. My personal record of 812 was hit with 7 pushups per minute over an entire evening!
I do 100 situps, 100 pushups, 100 squats, and a 10km run everyday and other than all of my hair falling off I am stronger than ever!
Good stuff
