5:50: On one hand, in the past, a part of me would have told me that being shredded buys happiness and women. But after months of following a nutritionnist on intuitive eating because I was (and still am a bit) being way to restrictive and overreacting to certain foods I perceived as pure evil (when I didn't before) as well as using the gym and exercice in excess to feel less guilty (basicly orthorexia). Especially since I was a fortunate person who not only never had any weight issues, but also never had to count macros due to my good relationship with my hunger and satiety cues as well as a following in general a diet rich in fiber, good protein and fats. Nowadays, I focus more on a realistic approach where I try to stay fit, muscular and slighty ripped on the abdomen, but not to an extreme degree since this is how I find a good balance between physical and psychological wellbeing. OS now I would say happiness over being shredded. Sorry for the long comment so here's a potato for you all. 🥔

I’ve learned after 10 years of lifting that women don’t give a shit how shredded and strong you are. You will always be stronger than them which already means you are strong in their mind. benching 315 vs benching 225 is pretty much the same thing to them, and if you so much as have any kind of ab definition then you are golden.
Of course there are the minority who actually care about how strong you are and how shredded you are but for them there are always bigger, stronger, more shredded guys than you so (most of which are on PED’s lol) so that’s an uphill battle as well.

@@chi7818 I mean, to be fair, in my case that's pretty much spot on. Since I lift I can recognise what's impressive or not, but a guy's bench PR isn't something I value when looking for a potentional partner. :'')

      @chi7818 2 года назад +4

@@esmee6308 haha yeah I wish I knew sooner instead of powerlifting for years, getting big and strong, and causing all kinds of stress to my body that it didn’t need.
Tip for all the young people out there from some random guy, work out for your health and for some aesthetics. Use lower weight and more reps (10-15 rep ranges is what I do now) but still progressively overload for the gains. Focus on form and not weight because no one gives a shit how much you lift. They might be impressed for the moment while you do the lift but that’s it, not worth risking injury and the extra stress for your body. You’ll still get stronger and more aesthetic but it’s more sustainable. I mean that’s what all the older people do because it’s what works and it’s safer. Learn from us old guys lol.

Something i suggest you try if your calves dont grow from calf raises and such, try sprinting and short-medium distance running, with emphasis spending as much time in the air/only the tip of your feet touching the ground while still trying to go as fast as you can which means your calves will be like springs, taking the brunt of your bodyweight + momentum, and also that requires maximum power exertion which is basically what you do when you try to lift heavy and i find that if you do really go hard, especially with the sprinting, you will get very sore calves and make them grow. If you did this and didn't get sore, then you didn't do enough volume. Calf raises and other calf exercises you can do at the gym are annoying and dont even give me the same results as sprinting and sprinting is a lot more fun.

Standing calf raises with a deep deep stretch at the bottom are the best thing ever. I am genetically gifted a tiny bit, in that my proportion of calf to thigh is very good. My whole body is well proportioned, but to short to be a pro BB. I thought about it way back, but have no interest in PEDS.
Now I just want to get back in shape and inspire people to never surrender to 'old'.

Was training next to him today in my gym in central London, he’s a very unassuming guy always just gets on with his workout and moves on. Today must have been abs day ! He’s definitely shredded ! As a 50kg female I feel tiny 🤦‍♀️

Soooo glad I found your channel. After a lifetime of obesity and yo-yo dieting, I'm ready to get in peak physical condition by my 40th birthday next year (or well on my way to it)....I can't believe how miseducated I've been about diet and fitness over the decades. Lord. Thanks for the content. Subbed!

low carb (high protein) diets work really good, like vince gironda's steak and eggs.
      or a standard ketogenic diet.
but there is something missing and that is the hormonal pathway that i will lay out here (you don't get that information that condensed anywhere else)
good gut bacteria produce three fatty acids from eating the right fiber: acetate, propionate, butyrate.
these fatty acids make the L cells in your gut produce two hormones: PYY & GLP-1
PYY makes the brain lower the hunger hormone ghrelin ==> nice
GLP-1 tells the alpha cells to lower the hormone glucagon.
lower levels of glucagon reduces the blood sugar production in the liver (gluconeogenesis).
lower levels of blood sugar results in less insulin production in the beta cells of the pancreas.
lower levels of insulin increases lipolysis in your fat cells ==> yeehaaaa!
==> the fuel mixture in you blood changes, less glucose, more fatty acids
==> the mitochondria in your body cells burn more fatty acids (coming from your body fat) instead of glucose ==> wonderful!!
a nice side effect of the reduced blood sugar production of the liver is, that it does not waste protein for that. that means, that more protein is available for other things like muscle growth, repair things in the body, maintaining a youthful skin (building collagen).
      ----
but how to feed the gut bacteria with the right fiber?
==> 75g oat bran (or oat flakes, if you don't get oat bran), half of an apple, half a tea spoon of cinnamon, a pinch of salt. everything cooked in water (maybe 300ml, not sure).
no sugar, no milk. it does not taste great, but the apple and cinnamon makes it taste "acceptable" -more or less.
oats have a very good fiber content, called beta-glucan, that does the magic here. oat bran is even better because it has more of that fiber.
if you notice the hunger going down for a longer time, then it is working.
it can be that one meal of that is not sure. the first time it could take 3 days with 3 of that meals to build up the good bacteria in the gut until that GLP-1 pathway works.
many people have a certain degree of diabetes type 2 without knowing. that insulin resistance is one factor of getting fat without knowing.
you can test that at home with a "glucose tolerance test" (GTT).
i wish a lot of success and instead of general weight loss, i wish you healthy body fat loss!

look up keto diet and carnviore diet = never hungry, have energy, no sugar or carb cravings.
only do CLEAN keto (healthy keto not what they call dirty keto with all the fake sugar and treats)
look up Beach body on demand = good exercise workouts ($100 a year).

What’s crazy is Will has a great physique but doesn’t do shots with crazy lighting and stuff so I think a lot of people are surprised to see his body fat being measured at so low it also shows how warped our interpretation of bodies are ngl. I’m guilty of this too yes will probably isn’t exactly 8.5 lol but it’s probably around there and that’s awesome!

You handled that madness quite well. As far as Helmet, I personally think he looks like a med school cadaver; I don't see any aesthetic in being that shredded. That's just my own perception. The late great Bruce Lee was an example of someone who was super ripped but still very healthy and active (and looked human).
