ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on RUclips and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

Aww he did not smash you that was a really close race!!! I have not even see one of his videos. Looking forward to the shearing now. Real men can wear pink. My husband has been known to grab out of a drawer a tshirt that was mine in a rush with a flower on it or something now and again not realizing and go on about his day and not one person questioned him. Did not even blink an eye. I want a Strawberry milkshake now. They are my favorite :) And what a wonderful set up that is to the making of them.
I wish I could subscribe twice just for those snippets of songs...I loved them. Now on to the milk shake?... no ice cream in milk shakes over there?... that just looked like flavored milk...confusing for us Tennessee watchers. NOBODY rocks pink better than you,lol. As for your green lumpy bits, a bit of beating up with a mounted or a chain harrow, then roll, will do the trick. Best if it’s not totally dry.

Yes, you pulled it off! If you can pull off Bob Ross hair (loved American artist if you don't know) you can pull anything off!!! Shearing feels like you have done SO much in a short amount of time. My favorite 2 times of year aside from lambing of course.

I learned something new today. I've never heard of SAME tractors, or rolling a field. I also have never seen a make-your-own-milkshake dispensary set up before.

I think you need to harrow it first, then spin a bit of fresh seed on the poached and rutted area followed by the roller to settle the seed in.

Over the years it was alway a straight plow furrow that the old timers were looking for. Our land was very rolley so trying to get a straight furrow was almost impossible. I think that business goes back to the horse drawn plow. How well you controlled your team while staying straight. The only flat ground we had was where we purposely flattened it.

Canada here. Waiting for travel to open again to go back to Scotland. Husband born W Coast Garelochhead, then school in Edinburgh. We were to be there last year with extensive trip through Scotland for son's wedding, but the world stopped. Much to their credit, they thought the marriage was more important than the wedding so they made the best of it on a very small scale. I was looking forward to the Cheviots on the hills an and the Scottish Blackface along the lochs. Found you through Sandy at Sheepishly me, (about 2 hours from us). (Yes, Canadians give distance in terms of time) Love your knowledge, and yes, you rock the singlet.

I can't believe you lost. I never watched the other channel. My loyalty belongs to you.
My dad was a farmer and I went out to a field with him to smooth out some gouges made when a tree was dragged away from a fence line. He was mad at the tree cutters for doing it. He used a disc behind the tractor and went zig zagging over the ruts and named the procedure: wee wowing. That was in Iowa, USA.
I think the disc is called a joker in Canada, maybe.

Then there’s the yellow one that’s 54 years old and the green one that is 74 years old (needs a tune up) and the other yellow one that is a mere 67 years old...the semi for hay from 1983 and the grey and white diesel tractor nearly brand new at only 28 years old...yep...a month of prep for summer and a dozen batteries to keep charged all winter but the sheep have to be first! Nothing can get in the way of taking care of the sheep needs!

I Enjoyed another, I’ve been picking beer cans and bottles outta our pasture for years. The bar ditch that runs in front of our place to gets bottles cans and fast food trash. I figured the people who drop them off for me, buy them in town and have them done just about our place.

Fun video! I was expecting ice cream when you said milk shake...in U.S. the milkshake is ice cream with malted milk blended (flavors can be added). So the next time I can go to Scotland I will know the proper combination.

Donna, don’t where in the US you are, but here in the Los Angeles area if it has malted milk it is a malt, a shake does not have the malt.
