I’m pretty sure he already reacted to Go Rest High On That Mountain, right? If so…he needs to listen to I’m No Stranger and then go back and revisit the first verse of Go Rest High!
His widow, Lorrie Morgan is also a great singer. I love her song "Something in Red". Keith and Earl Thomas Conley singing "Brotherly love" is a great song.
Keith is considered by many, including myself, to be one of, if not THE greatest of all time in the world of country music. I often wonder about how much great music we missed out on losing him so young. Like so many others- Hank, Patsy, and many more- how many hundreds of songs that we never got to hear & experience. Kieth has been gone for well over 30 years now, but if he were alive would likely still be going strong. Sad loss for the music world, not just country music, but music in general. May he rest in peace for eternity.
You’re hitting some real bangers. As a 70s southern rock living it live fan it surprised me the first time I heard his voice singing this over the radio airwaves. I remember thinking, that’s different, every note he sings is both crazy low with a little bit high. What the hell is that never heard that tone before. Keith Whitley was a flame touching everyone with that never reproduced tone burning way too fast
Keith was best friends with Vince gill. Vince gill's song "go rest high on that mountain" was written about keith's and Vince brother's passing. Love Keith. My granddaughter 's middle name is Whitley!
Keith was a triple threat artist. Singer musician and song writer. This was the last song I danced with my sweet wife with before she passed. She was gone 7 years ago yesterday. Keith wrote this with Bob McDill
I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful wife. I've lost my husband, he's been gone 17 years now. He died because we were at Ground Zero for 3 weeks after 9/11. Helping to search for survivors and then pulling out heroes that were left behind in all that rubble. Those 2 towers had asbestos in them. And that's what took him away. Lung cancer due to the asbestos. I miss him still. Best Regards and prayers from a Retired Paramedic in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦 🙏
@TheeAmethystEmpress6589 Don't be. I know if he were here right now, he'd say, It was the right thing to do. We had a skill set that could be used. Yes Keith Whitley is a country icon. Need to hear the song Go Rest High On That Mountain by Vince Gill, another great country artist. He started writing the song for Keith Whitley after his passing and finished writing the song after his own brother passed away.
I was just gonna comment Miami, My Amy. Also love No Stranger to the Rain. Reminds me of my dad, who also fought and lost to alcoholism. He loved Keith Whitley.
Vince Gill began writing Go Rest High On That Mountain for his brother (who died) but was unable to finish the song. When Keith Whitley (Vince’s close friend) died, Vince finished writing the song as a tribute to both men. It’s a great song, worth your time.
You got it backwards. He started writing that song when Keith passed away. The first few lines directly reference Keith and his song "I'm No Stranger to the Rain". He finished it a few years later when his brother passed.
@@barbarakolowski1122 He actually wrote that long before Toby passed. I think it was written and performed by Vince well before Toby was ever diagnosed. So the two aren't related.
Eddie Rabbit Driving My Life Away is a song that I think you would enjoy. So many great musicians passed to soon in the 80’s. RIP Randy Rhoads, Bon Scott, John Bonham, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Rushton Moreve, Karen Carpenter, Marvin Gaye, Ricky Nelson, and his band. Sorry to everyone that I missed. Also Blues Brother “Joliet” Jake, John Belushi.
He was Gen X's Hank Sr. He was everything to me. I cried for 3 days when he died, one month before I graduated from high school. I've made so many special lifelong friends through his music. I'm so grateful I knew a world with Jackie Keith Whitley in it.
I'll never forget what was going on in my life during the years he was all over the radio becoming famous! I listened to him all the time and was devastated when he died! RIP Keith!
He is a fellow Kentuckian that's way more than enough.Anyone else in chat that understands this statement to be true?..KY is unique in that we are a proud people? We have our own music ,dance speech, food bourbon ,customs. This really shines bright in the eastern Appalachian mountains but felt state wide?
My Mom was good friends with Keith Whitley's mom. My neighbor's daughter dated Keith's brother. And everyone was proud of Keith, even after he died. He was definitely poised to become the biggest country music star from our region of Kentucky since Loretta Lynn. It was such a waste.
When Keith passed he was married to Lorrie Morgan. She is also a great country artist…as was her father. Keith wrote “Tell Lorrie I Love Her” for his wife. She has a song called Something In Red that’s beautiful with a great video too!
You would probably love Clay Walker too. "Questions", "Hypnotize the Moon," or "This Woman and This Man," One of the best country artists IMO of all time. He was at his prime when he was diagnosed with MS. His voice and songs are so amazing. Pretty sure wranglers were made for him also. 😊😊
This was another one of our favorite songs,My late husband and I danced to a lot. But, we danced a lot anyway. I miss him terribly. Everyday I spend alone, thinking of where's my Remember When ..😢
Though a proud person Keith Whitney’s self destructive and self deprecating nature bled through in his music. “I’m no stranger to the rain” is a beautiful song he wrote about his battle with alcoholism. Great Reaction.
Oh man, one of my favorite songs from back in the late 80s early 90s era is a song called "All These Years" by Sawyer Brown. That being said, Keith Whitley had a voice that could touch your soul. I wish we had more voices like his in country music today.
Till A Tear Becomes a Rose- Keith Whitley and Lorrie Morgan (his wife). This was a huge country number one song that was out right after Keith passed. Love to see you react to it. It’s a beautiful duet. Thanks for this great reaction BP! 👍🏻
One of the greatest voices of all time. Due to former relationship issues, I can only listen to certain songs. KW's songs I can listen to: Hard Livin', I'm No Stranger To The Rain, It Ain't Nothin', Talk To Me Texas. The songs I can not listen to: Ten Feet Away, Homecoming '63, Don't Close Your Eyes, When You Say Nothing At All, I'm Over You. Just because I can't listen to them, doesn't mean they aren't great songs, which they are. The man had an exceptional voice.
Keith died May 9, 1989. He had only released 2 studio albums and his 3rd was released posthumously. His music has been covered by so many and he has influenced even more artists than almost anyone else. R.I.P LEGEND

BP a few years ago a couple friends and I spent months going over all the country songs from 1960 to today. We then ranked the best songs and artists from each year, then each decade then all time. This song we decided was the best country song of all time. The singer literally drank himself to death. Alan Jackson won our best artist.
So many great Keith Whitley songs. A couple of my not-so-famous favs are "Miami, My Amy" and "Homecoming '63." As you're exploring other 80's/early 90's country artists, maybe keep an eye out for Sammy Kershaw ("Matches" and "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer"), Doug Stone ("I'd Be Better Off in a Pine Box"), and Dan Seals (too many to list, but maybe "Addicted" and "Everything That Glitters").
Vince Gill started writing Go Rest High On That Mountain after Keith Whitley died and finished his preliminary version after his brother died. He never felt it was finished until he added the last verse in 2019.
Joe Diffie. "Third Rock from the Sun" also did "john Deer Green" and "Pickup Man" Very fun high energy Country Artist, But the first mentioned is one of the GREATEST songs ever recorded. It's a MUST
Keith Whitley was a complex, sensitive man with a troubled soul. Some people have pain that can't be erased no matter how much everyone else loves them.

Keith was one of the greatest gifts to Country music. This song was actually not wrote by him though.... even though most thought it was about Lorrie Morgan. That's the art of a storyteller.
