One of the best live performances ever, hands down. The energy of Chris and Justin, the band cheering in the background, the crowd. It's just perfection.
He didn't write it, it is several decades old, but he did a new arrangement and made it new! It's such a good arrangement, it went Diamond!! This is one of my favorite all time performances!
It was written by a duo after a writing session at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. David Allan Coe was the first major performer to record it back in 1981, and then George Jones did it in 1983. It's been recorded plenty of times, but Stapleton's version brought it ROARING back into popularity in 2015.
Please do more of Chris Stapleton. And a group of guy’s that are are an all a cappella group that they use no band but they have a beatboxer one of the greatest of all time. Please try it. They sing in the genre of country music. But that can even sing Opera. There just amazing 🤩. Thank you. ❤
I heard it d cases ago and didn't care much for it. But when I heard Chris Stapleton sing it, I couldn't gett enough! He's a profilic guitar player too! ❤️
"Tennessee Whiskey" is a country song written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. It was originally recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe for his album of the same name Tennessee Whiskey, whose version peaked at number 77 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1981. George Jones' 1983 version of the song was included on his album Shine On, and reached number two on the Hot Country Singles chart. The song has been covered by several artists, including Chris Stapleton, whose breakout performance of the song at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards with Justin Timberlake propelled the song to a greater level of popularity. Stapleton's version of the song has been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
these two were destined to stumble across each other. Chris with the just pure country, and then Justin with the gospel band in the background. there's simply never gonna be another crossover collab like this one. the amount of talent on that stage is UNREAL.
Drink you away is a JT song, it had just come out. Chris Stapleton became huge with this performance. The woman on stage with them is Chris's wife, she has a beautiful voice too. When they sang "Amanda" at the Grand Ole Opry it was absolutely beautiful. Chris has/had bad stage fright, its one of the reasons his wife sings with him.
Possibly the best awards show performance ever. JT's band were absolutely *bitchin* that night - so many top-tier musicians on that stage with two great vocalists. :)
Chris & Justin are incredible here, but the real stars here are the band. They are BEYOND tight, they are perfection, and their absolute joy in performing this is palatable.
Chris stapleton covered Tennessee whiskey, which has been a hit of many old skool country artists like George Jones.but this live performance with JT is and always will be the best version Ever!!❤❤❤
I’m here so fast. This is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. The energy is incredible. They did a song together called Say Something and it’s fantastic. The video is a live one take 🔥
You need to react to Chris singing "This is a man's world", live performance. It will knock your socks off. "Drink you away" is JT's song and home girl over there is Morgane, Chris Stapleton's wife. She has an incredible voice of her own. She's the one that actually got Chris to start performing. He used to only write songs for others.

You need to hear Chris' version live at Austin City Limits. He sings with his wife, Morgane and you can really hear their own chemistry. Totally different vibe than this. You really need to go with "Cold," from the 2021 CMAs for the next one. Always do live for Chris (except "Fire Away," the video is a little mini-movie supporting mental health awareness.)
Tennessee Whiskey was originally recorded by David Allen Coe in 1980, then by George Jones in 1981, both very traditional country arangements. Chris' inspiration for his arangement is the song "I'd Rather Go Blind", by blues legend Etta James. The woman in stage is Chris' wife and mother of their five children. I'd recomment you check out his performance of this song he did at Austin City Limits with just the two of them and their three piece band. He did a four song set there. Also, "Cold" from the CMA awards will make you cry. "Watch You Burn" about the Vegas shooting. Chris and JT recorded a song together called "Say Something" that's really good. He's written like 200 songs for himself and other artists. It's a deep rabbit hole.
I don't know if you've done this, or if it's been suggested already, but "Sometimes I Cry" by Chris Stapleton, live at the Bing Lounge, is phenomenal! It's just him, his guitar, and that voice... ooooh. So good!
You recognized Chris's talent when you 1st heard him & said you wanted to hear more.... but it's months later....and 10 Grammys, 11 ACM Awards, 15 CMA Awards & he was named ACM's Artist-Songwriter of the Decade but you still haven't done more Chris.

The song that got me hooked on Chris was “Nobody to blame but me “. I heard it on the radio and I thought “I have to listen to more of this guy”. I haven’t been disappointed.
"Tennessee Whiskey" is a country song written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. It was originally recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe in 1981 (that being said, Chris and Justin's version is by far my favorite of any version of this song).
This is the Performance that got Chris Performing on Stage . Bro Death Row, I was wrong live Austin city limits. Sometimes I Cry live bing lounge,That’s Morgan Chris’s Wife
I don’t even like country music but the first time I heard this I thought it was one of the best live performances I’d seen. Those two together are great.
A lot of people think they don’t like country. But they just listen to the wrong country. It’s like the difference between mass produced Pop and other pop/singer songwriter artists . Some of it just has less soul and heart. But a lot of old style country is beautiful music , that isn’t all about trucks, beer and girls .
Love this song. Musically it's Etta James I'd Rather Go Blind note for note and Chris took that and covered an old country song and it's absolute perfection.
Cris Stapleton has in my opinion one the best male voices of all time you should check out Cold, Death Row, or Sometimes I Cry, by Chris Stapleton you won't be disappointed
What adds to this - makes it “magic” is not only the colossal level of talent, but they’re obviously having the time of their lives…. And the audience feels it… they can’t sit still or stop smiling from ear to ear… ❤❤❤❤
Justin & Chris collaborated on another FIRE live performance video Say Something with INCREDIBLE vocals WHILE continuously walking through a building…it’s literally PHENOMENAL to watch all one take!!! Flawlessly done! Well worth a watch imo.😃🎶❤️✌🏻
I'm a Stapleton fan, this collab with Timberlake is fire. Drink you away is Justin's song. When I heard Tennessee Whiskey, I was a fan straight away. Chris's voice/songs has soul, his vocals are incredible...🔥🙏
Tennessee whiskey is the namesake for the country music song "Tennessee Whiskey", written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and originally released by David Allan Coe as the title track of his 1981 studio LP. The song was later recorded and released as a hit single by George Jones in 1983.
That was the difference in hearing a full grown man sing and a man with a good voice but sounds like a teenager beside Chris. Nobody can do this song justice but Chris Stapleton.
This video is in my best-of-the-best playlist! I love it SO much! Chris Stapleton sang for Garth Brooks at the Library of Congress. He was receiving the Gershwin Award. Chris sang his version of Garth's song Shameless... which was written and first recorded. by Billy Joel! It was such a great performance!
Tennessee Whiskey was originally written in 1981. It was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. David Allen Cole was the first person to sing the now epic song. Some more to listen to from Chris. Cold What Are You Listening to Man's World (live version) Death Row Or Was it 26 Whiskey and You Fire Away A couple of these do not have videos. Still worth the listen. Home girl is Chris' wife. He wrote the song for her. Can't think of 2 artist that are more different, yet they worked it out so well. Chris can make you cry on a first verse. Justin is just still so cute. ❤❤
This version and show of Tennessee Wiskey is really good and i love JT but i do prefer Chris Stapletons version of Tennessee wiskey live at Austin City Limits. His wife is singing the backup vocals on the song. And this is actually someone elses song. I belive David Allen Coe wrote or preformed Tennessee wiskey first (But im not 100%) but Chris Stapleton did make Tennessee Wiskey famous Also just wanted to say when doing Chris Stapleton always try and find the live performance. Hidden Gem from Stapleton “what are you listening to” live at a radio studio with just guitar. It’s phenomenal. Great reaction keep it up bro! Can’t miss with any Chris song. Much love.
"Drink You Away" is Justin's song. He permormed on the 80's talent show "Star Search" at 12 years old, using the name Justin Randall. He was dressed in jeans, cowboy boots/hat and a giant belt buckle lol. He was going down the country road at the time. You can find the footage on youtube. It's priceless!
Tennessee Whiskey" was written in 1981 by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. .Before Stapleton's version captivated audiences, Tennessee Whiskey had its own history. David Allan Coe's 1981 version introduced the song, followed by George Jones' rendition in 1983, which brought it significant fame.
When I watched this on TV I thought "WHAT JUST HAPPENED? and I let something burn a little bit on the stove because I did not want to stop watching. Remember, JT is from Memphis and lives in TN about 45 minutes south of Nashville. He has blues chops. Chris and his wife homegirl Morgane are powerhouse singers. I think she had her own record deal at some point. I was sorry I was not there that night.
So, the story behind this performance is that Chris Stapleton was relatively unknown at the time of this show in 2015. He obviously was known in the music scene, but he's one of the first artists to win "New Artist of the Year" without significant play on corporate radio. His exposure came mostly from Sirius XM. So, they were going to cut his performance to save air time. Chris had met JT a year or so before this and they had become friends. Chris went to the CMA committee and said, "If I can get Justin Timberlake to perform with me, can I have my slot?" To which they replied, "If you get JT to perform at the CMAs, we'll give you two slots," obviously thinking that there's no way it would happen. JT was happy to perform with his friend and the rest is history. Imagine being Florida Georgia Line warming up backstage, as they were the next group to perform, and hearing this... I think I'd have refused to play.

One of the best live moments ever .... and I've seen a LOT!!!!! I'm 71 so I grew up with the best music ever! They were all on the same page and rode that wave for all it was worth! It's so great when everything clicks!!!!!
This is my favorite song and of his and i play mandolin or fiddle which is the same of a violin just how yoy play it i know because i was taught volin classical but play the fiddle music on it as well. Tennessee whiskey song just to clarify never heard the other one. But i love singing and playing Tennessee whiskey ❤❤❤❤ 9:10
There is also a mashup of Chris Stapleton TW and Angelina Jordan, I’d Rather Go Blind. Fantastic! Only Angelina was sitting on her couch testing out her new mic she got for her 12th birthday, when she recorded it. Trust me, this is very good!
Literally the Best CMA performance ever!!
I agree! ❤
best performance peroid
Best award show performance ever, period.
Death Row By Chris Stapleton FKN AWESOME
❤
The girl is Morgan Stapleton, Chris’s wife.
She was the one that encouraged him to stop being in the background and sing the songs he wrote.
I thought he was referring to the chick with the tiara. I assume she’s a miss something.
But Morgan was the woman singing with them. I love that song Chris and Morgan covered You Are My Sunshine.
Also interesting, if I'm not mistaken Chris has five children. She sings backup, even heavily pregnant.
Yes ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

FACT!
Absolutely agree! Pure fire!

One of the best live moments ever .... and I've seen a LOT!!!!! I'm 71 so I grew up with the best music ever! They were all on the same page and rode that wave for all it was worth! It's so great when everything clicks!!!!!

Best collaboration I've heard this century! Lol.
Stapleton wrote music for others before performing his own music.....
There is also a mashup of Chris Stapleton TW and Angelina Jordan, I’d Rather Go Blind. Fantastic! Only Angelina was sitting on her couch testing out her new mic she got for her 12th birthday, when she recorded it. Trust me, this is very good!
LOVE LOVE LOVE both these guys💜💜 you have to hear Chris’s “COLD” 🎼🎤💜
