  • In this final episode of how to build a garden shed, John demonstrates how to install shed doors and how to secure the roof panels. He showcases the cedar cladding for the perimeter of the shed, builds a wood panel above the door, and gives us a tour of the completed garden shed. John shows us how to use a hinge drill to locate the centre of the hinge and drill in the door. He also shows us how to disguise bins with a secret cedar door, and how to protect the wood using Osmo UV oil. Watch for top tips, satisfying time lapses, and the finished garden shed!
A huge thank you to our show sponsors, MKM Building Supplies. We highly recommend you check out their website for all your construction material needs!

      @@NS-uq3pp Hi there,
In my own purchasing experience, new build homes by the big British housebuilders are largely sub-standard in quality. There are a few exceptions of course, but the majority of new housing developments by companies like Persimmon, Bellway, Barratt are just plain rubbish. NHBC are even refusing to honour guarantees in a vast majority of these homes.

Good Morning John and the A&E team.
May i compliment yourselves for posting the videos for us the viewing public to view, thank you.
It is a pleasure to watch everytime and i wait in anticipation to every video.
I most admire your exemplary standard of work, the attention to detail and sense of humour.
Individually and collectively you are a fine example of a time-honoured trade, one which, had i not chosen a different career, would have pursued.
May you all be granted health and continue to be contracted for many years to come.

Nice job lovely box gutter detail iv never thought of using epdm and iv done s%€t loads of them,It's a shame the rafters were not cladded but you have to draw the line some where,I don't know why people are getting there knickers in a twist over a posh shed, It's seen from the front and rear it's obviously an affluent area and built for people who like the best,And I think you have achieved that,It's nice to work with clients that want to raise the spec rather than seeing what can be cut out.Well done mate

      Hi Ryan H,
It does make a noise when it rains, but the amount of noise will depend on what is in the shed / area underneath it, as any echo could make it appear louder.

Great job 👏 was curious to know if this could be down with glass panels Instead of polycarbonate? Is the process the same?

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  4 года назад +1

      Hi Dan,
      Glad you enjoyed the video.
There's no reason why you couldn't use glass. There would be some things to consider though -
Glass is much heavier than polycarbonate, so make sure the rafters can support the weight (also bear in mind snow load).
You would need an adequate frame to install the glass into. Have a chat with a local glazing firm, and they can advise you on available options.
      Hope this helps.
      All the best, John 😊

So it’s been over a year now, how have you found the shed? With it being close to the wall how has it done with the weather? How has the bricks done with water being drained into them? The reason am asking is I want to build the same shed as you but the other side brick is the neighbours garage wall so water would be draining into their wall and I don’t want it to collapse over the gears from water being drained into their garage wall etc

      Hi Davy B,
      Glad you like it 😁
Over time the cedar will turn silvery colour, it's a beautiful wood type which is perfect for this type of application.
      Thanks for watching.
      All the best, John 😊

Does that roof support snow loads without having to take the snow off during winter? Thanks

      Hi stephiso,
Yes, the roof will be more than adequate to cope with snow loads.
      Hope this helps.

This is my first video I watch on your channel. You’re a true craftsman, nice clean work with details. You rock. Only annoying thing watching your vids is that you talk like a teenager. The doooooor, that’s iiiiiit, in hereeeeee. I don’t say you need to change, I just can’t listen to it 🤨

      Hi Patrick P,
      Glad you enjoyed the video.
Please bear in mind that I am a builder, not a TV presenter. I try my up most to be as informative as possible when filming, which means that sometimes I may string my words out slightly as I'm thinking about what to say.
This has been raised by a few people before, and although I do appreciate constructive criticism, I also urge those people to have a go for themselves and see how easy they find it.
Please don't see this as a negative response to your comment, I'm just trying to get my point across.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video.
      All the best, John

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  3 года назад

I'm assuming you're referring to the lead flashing from wall to roof? If so, you could use flashband, which is a self adhesive strip you can use instead of lead. It does have a much lower lifespan than lead though. Also make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions to the letter to ensure that it sticks and seals properly!
      Hope this helps.

Sorry guys, but not for me.
I appreciate the skill, but so much about this build just seems to be over-engineered. Is that the client or the contractor? Who knows.
Craftsmanship can always be appreciated. But is that required for a shed, and...a bin store? It just screams ostentatious.
As I say, not knocking your work. Or your skill. Both top drawer. I’ve just found this series painful to watch. Wouldn’t copy any of it 🤷‍♂️

Hi D L I think that’s the great thing about people we all have different ideas, the clients wanted something to compliment the rest of the build but in the same shape as the old one. Thanks for watching all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome weekend

Build With A&E | Oh no, trust me I get the design brief. The clients wanted something as equally ostentatious and pointless as the rest of their build; something manicured to impress on Instagram. You delivered magnificently 👍
You are right. People are full of ideas. I guess I’m just glad mine don’t include needing the slats on my bin store to be in perfect alignment. God help their mental health when it all starts to weather. The anguish will be unbearable.

Paul Hinton | I’ve self-built 3 houses from trench to ridge tile. Have you? As for my ‘shed’, it’s a double garage which houses a limited edition 911 along with a few other toys.
But yes. You’ve nailed it. Questioning the point of over engineering in scenarios which do not justify it, is clearly just my uncontainable jealousy eating my very core 👍
This is why I’ve been having sleepless nights.

    • @paulhinton9171

@@imconfused1237 the only thing giving you sleepless nights is that massive chip on your shoulder! I might not of built any houses but I know quality when I see it. And because they got the cladding to line up with the doors makes it ostentatious? Have a word. Maybe they just want to do things to a high standard
