Would you be able to do a similar detail if it was a glass roof or solid roof?

  • @thomasgray768
    @thomasgray768 4 года назад

    Is the timber that the rafters are attached to on the gutter supported enough to take the with of the roof? I was looking to do similar and a builder friends had concerns that the rafters weren't supported enough. Beautiful build, congrats.

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  4 года назад +1

      Hi Thomas,
      There's plenty of support for the roof. The wall plate which forms part of the gutter is securely fixed to the wall. This in turn is supported by 4x4 posts which gives support from the ground up. That roof is going nowhere 😎
      Hope this helps.
      All the best, John 😊

    Great video.I am a big fan of cedar but a little out my price range. Can you recommend simlar woods that cost less?

      Hi Rodney,
      Glad you enjoyed the video.
      If you're cladding a shed, then British Larch would be a good alternative. It's cheaper, but very durable.
      Hope this helps.
      All the best, John 😊

      Hi Ant B,
      Glad you're enjoying our videos.
      We film most of our footage on GoPro's, which does give a slightly fish eyed look to it.
      Thanks for watching.

    When using them concrete screws, I use a 6mm bit and they bite to perfection :)

      Hi J L,
      I totally agree that normally you would use a 6mm bit, however these were specked for use with a 7mm for some reason 🤷🏼‍♂️. I did try a 6mm with them, but the hole was too tight and I couldn't drive them in.
      Thanks for watching.
      All the best, John 😊

      Some are 6mm, some are 6.5mm.
      I always try a test hole if possible, sometimes the 6mm can blow the brick. 👍

      Install VIDIQ and TubeBuddy Google chrome extensions and thank me later. Make sure you watch plenty of videos on RUclips on how the extensions work.

    Is there a certain angle the roof has to be at or as long as it is slightly higher?

    • @DaddyBear3000
      @DaddyBear3000 4 года назад

      Depends on the roof system, but for an EPDM or flat roof system you should be looking at a 1:40 drop which is an angle of about 1.5 degrees. Something like polycarbonate it’s 5 degrees, but I’d got with 8-15 degrees.

    Hey, love your guys work, very nice and a pleasure to watch good trades at work! just 2 quick questions. Do you guys always use stainless or ACQ fixings for pressure treated timber and exotic hardwoods? and also, I've used UV protection oil several times and I didn't realise you had to wipe the excess off, I've looked all over and I'm getting confused! is it what Osmo recommend?

    • @BuildWithAE

      Hi Joe,
      It's great to hear that you're enjoying our channel.
      We would always recommend using the correct screw for the job in hand, to ensure both the safety and longevity of the work.
      With regards to the Osmo Oil, they do recommend that you remove the excess after application, which helps to ensure a smooth finish. I shouldn't imagine that not removing it would have an impact on the protection aspect of it though 😁
      Hope this helps.
      Thanks for watching.
      All the best, John 😊
