  • Frank Summers, Space Telescope Science Institute
Stephan’s Quintet is a collection of five galaxies close together in the sky. Although one member is a foreground galaxy, the others are tightly grouped in space and their shapes show evidence of gravitational interactions and collisions. Observations using visible, infrared, and x-ray light reveal detailed structures that help piece together the history of this grouping.
Dr. Summers will discuss this rich scientific story and present a new visualization, from the AstroViz Project of NASA's Universe of Learning, that explores multi-wavelength insights into this complex compact group.
    - News from the Universe starts at 3:30
    - Main talk starts at 13:35
Recorded live on Tuesday, July 11, 2023
