It's funny to think back when DB was actually being published in the 80s, shounen manga editors tended to be really ADVERSE to timeskips; supposedly some rationale it'd alienate viewers if the main character (esp one around the same age as the reader) was suddenly much older. Toriyama big skips in DB were handwaved as Goku's body needing to be taller and longer since the fighting because such a big part of the comic. Yeah but then like right after there was the “super mystic water” which is just the trope the normal mystic water was making fun of but played seriously
What @lazyliongames6660 said. The Mystic Water is the regular water used for training in the Red Ribbon Army arc. The Ultra Divine Water, on the other hand, is an incredibly toxic liquid of which around 20 people had drank the liquid before Goku did (according to the anime), and no one survived. In the King Piccolo arc, Goku drinks it anyway and survives, possibly due to his amazing immune system he has as a Saiyan, although Toriyama likely did not have his Saiyan heritage in mind this early on in the story.

My guess for goku struggling at king kais after going through the time chamber is the difference in time between the events and lack of gravity Chambers to accustom himself to the change on a permanent scale. @@warpedwhimsical Not only that. But also the clothes everyone besides Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo are wearing in every screen time they're in. They're all the same. But that's just my opinion.
Just a quick clarification: Indeed, in the anime adaptation, Vegeta goes off to train with Whis without Goku, but, according to Toriyama, Goku asked Whis to train him and Vegeta tagged along, refusing to be left behind. Fantastic video as always, Carthu! Been super busy with life, so it's been a long time, so coming back to your channel and watching your groovy videos feels great!
@@yamahakid450f Commom misconception, actually. Toriyama was more involved with the manga, collaborating directly with Toyotaro and often correcting panels and story beat, whereas it is much more difficult to influence an entire staff of writers, storyboarders, animators, directors, and producers working on each anime episode. The manga is also much more consistent with Toriyama's original manga...well, before the Moro and Granolla arcs, that is.
Yeah, Toriyama said that Goku trained with Whis before Vegeta. That was for Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'. Dragon Ball Super just retconned that and flipped who trains with Whis first.
11:53 Well, to be fair, actually in the movies and in some episodes of the series it is clear that Gohan doesn't want to spend time study, he escaped many times to play with the dragon, and to fight, so i think that after all it was chi chi idea for him to be a scholar, she made that clear many times during the series when she talks to Goku about it. The fact that gohan say in the manga that he wants to study and so on could be just his mother wish that he repeat because he is just a kid.
Just a note on the 10x weighted apple. Goku was also lifting the equivalent of 10 of his own arms with only the strength of two arms, and he was wearing his weights on his wrists, which were also 10x their weight. If it was just the weight of 10 apples, there's no way he'd struggle with it at all, but that's not all it was. As for the 10 year time skip to the fight with Uub, I think we can consider that no longer fully canon, though not off the books either. We'll call it soft canon. It may still happen, but not in the same time frame as we were given the first time. After all, when we were given it the first time, the characters didn't have any god ki at all as it hadn't been thought of yet, so things are going to be different if they choose to include it again.
@@titasjankunas.3685 I'm not even taking into consideration that those "apples" are probably denser than earth apples and might even weigh more than they normally would.
Nothing in End of Z really contradicts Super besides Bulma saying she hadn't seen Goku in years. Just because Goku didn't explicitly use God ki or Ultra Instinct against Uub, doesn't mean he didn't have them, as there was no reason for him to go all out against a kid with barely any training. If Super ever covers End of Z, I doubt anything will be changed. Recapped, perhaps, sure, but not changed.
@@LupinticDream I never said that one contradicted the other, I just said that things would be done a little different and pointed to god ki as an example of things not being thought of at the time that the Uub fight happened. Having said that, it is a little contradicted by the fact of Bulma saying how long it's been since she's seen Goku, especially since Super is still going in the manga. Add on top of that the fact that when Battle of Gods and Resurrection F were remade into episodes for Super, they had no reason to alter them at all, but they still did. Things will be changed no matter what.
@@genostellar I'm aware. That's where I disagreed with you; I don't believe they're going to change anything. When it comes to the Super manga and anime, they've never outright altered details from the original run of the manga before. Maybe they've recontextualized past events, sure, like with Potara Fusion and the time limit, but that's different from outright changing details. And since there's not a reason they 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 for End of Z, I don't believe they're going to start doing so now. In fact, something I've noticed with Toyotaro in particular is that he's very hyper fixated on making sure the Super manga lines up with Toriyama's original DB manga, going off of interviews with Toyotaro and just the content itself. Almost to a frustrating degree, actually, as it seems like he's being limited on what he can and can't do. But that's a whole 'nother topic entirely, so I'll bite my tongue on that. If they do change anything about End of Z in Super, it would only be if Toriyama directly requested them to. They're too adherent to the original work on their own.
The "Yo Son Goku" Special is definetly canon. The 1st time Tarble (Vegeta's Brother) becomes animated and seen on screen. Later to be mentioned in DB (Super) Battle of God's & The Broly Movie.
It’s sad that vegeta never learned which planet he was on and where his family was. “He’s on some distant planet doing god knows what, and even if I wanted him to join the T.o.p I wouldn’t even know where to start looking.” -Vegeta dbz pre tournament of power selection

Dude I love your channel, as a laymen when it comes to lore it's awesome that there's a channel out there that is so fantastic at weaving what's happening/happened while being entertaining and interesting. Amazing.
4:55 The way I see it, Carthu, Kami and Roshi both had the mindset that their guided training only worked so far in a controlled environment. Having Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu wander the world was intended to put them in positions where they could not only broaden their horizons by meeting other people, but as some filler show, actually honing their training in practical situations. Iirc, there was a filler episode where Krillin, Yamcha and Tenshinhan used their training to save a village from a volcanic eruption. Something along those lines. Whis even touches upon this when he explains to Goku that he needs to "find his own Ultra Instinct", Whis's training can only do so much if Goku is specifically emulating him.
@@fkjl4717 the ROSAT is still a controlled environment, albeit in the sense that it is effectively solitary confinement and total isolation; the opposite of what wandering the world achieves
12:55 I think it’s canon because in super when beerus was looking for the ssg, Bulma said to Vegeta “don’t have a nice younger brother you could call” and Vegeta says “he live in unknown planet in some part of the galaxy” and this why I think it might be canon, I could be wrong
Don't mind me, just here to remind people that the Basic Galick Gun was Stronger than a Super Kamehameha Vegeta at a Power Level of 18.000 Goku at a Power Level of 24.000, with Kaio-Ken x3 Vegeta used a Galick Gun (Earth Splitting Galick-Gun, Max Charged, still just a Basic version) vs Goku's Kaio-Ken x3 Super Kame-Hame-Ha (Max Charged) and they were Equal, until Goku pushed to Kaio-Ken x4 ..... Yeah shocking
Since you said it was a missed oppurtunity...What if Krillin, Tien and Yamcha drank the Ultra Divine water during their training with Korin? Would make a big difference during the early parts of Z?
Ye, i love the idea. Imagine another close fight between Tienshinhan and Goku , they did fight like child vs adult previously, but now it s adult vs adult, master vs master...it should be beautiful. Also Piccolo would be really shocked by humans power in his fight against Krillin, and whitnessing other performances.
2 months timeskip in the Moro arc, 6 in the Granolah arc, 5 years from EOZ-GT, a few months between Luud and M2, a few more months between M2 and Goku returning to Earth, a year between Goku's loss to Baby and Baby vs Uub, 1 year between Baby and S17, and finally, 100 years between Goku leaving and the last scene of GT.
@@dawnkist1456 what? "Separate canon" is not a thing. Dragon ball's overall story from DB through DB super does not include that abomination known as GT. Akira Toriyama didn't write GT. IE, not canon.

4:54 maybe the whole "explore the world" thing is more about learning to grow strong on their own and the lack of things to teach, since guided training from people like Kami or Roshi could only in theory make you reach their powers, from that point you would need to learn about your power and grow on your own. And maybe Whis' training's power growth could also be because Whis is so powerful that there is technically no limit to how much you can grow.
Exactly my thoughts when he talked about guided training versus "wandering" in the series! Goku became on-par with or stronger than Roshi, Korin, Kami, and King Kai when training with them. The other characters surpassed their instructors too. Whis is fundamentally different than all of those instructors because surpassing him would require attaining power in an entirely different realm of existence. The reason Goku and Vegeta haven't stopped training with him is because they haven't even come close to his level of power or ability.
Wow. I'm well versed in the DBZ anime but I knew nothing about the manga. Being able to see all of the differences of even minor details is quite the treat. Thank you.

Overall a good video. Though, I am not sure you can classify something that they said when they were 4 (and probably before they really knew what being a scholar was) is a life long dream. Motives change and Chi Chi always seemed more interested in his academics than he was. He honestly is depicted more often than not as miserable or bored every scene he is shown to be studying. I believe from talking with people who live/d in japan is that is a cultural thing where all children were taught to want to impress their parents and need to strive for greatness in the classroom. Which could make sense. Nothing to say that his dream was for sure not their true dream and aspiration, or that he didn't want to eventually have a career in academics, but this is not confirmation by any means.
Exactly. Hate how this youtuber keeps trying to correct us that it was all Gohan and not Chichi like if we are some sort of dummies or something. Infact hes the dummy here. Haha
I just thought of this while watching your "What If VEGITO BLUE fought JIREN?", and immediately went to your channel and hastily tried to find your newest video XD. So the idea is: "What if Goku stayed longer on Yardrat?". I thought of this when I heard about Vegito being able to use Instant Transmission.
Frieza kills everyone and blows up earth before Goku gets there. Goku would eventually have a rematch with Frieza but since At this point in the series the namekian dragon can only revive people one at a time that means earth is gone. No time travel, no revival, Goku is just alone.
@@ojpickle5923 Goku could probably just instant transmission to Earth from Yardrat when Frieza arrives. The extra year (or however long it took to get to Earth from Yardrat) would probably make it possible.
There's another small timeskip (about 1.5 month) between the fight with Vegeta and the arrival on Namek. During that time Bulma's father visitied Goku who asked him to built a spaceship (didn't make sense as they didn't even know that Gohan and the others would have trouble on Namek). Also the timeskip after Namek was a bit longer it was about 1 year and 9 months. I wish those timeskipes will be explored someday, the 10 year timeskip before the end of Z has been milked to death...
Remember Dragonball Part 1? Goku likes adventure. You think he's going to skip out on Namek if he can help it? Check out a new world, eat some of their food, maybe find a few new strong guys to fight. Sounds like a great time to Goku
@@DynastyZwarrior90 You're assuming the Dragon Radar works for Namekian Dragon Balls. There's a very real possibility it could take Bulma up to a month of tinkering to get it to work (probably a lot less if they found a ball to use as a radiation reference, but they had no way of knowing the balls would be conveniently stored in the villages)
I feel like the masters have their pupils wonder the world to gain wisdom, as most of them were still younger and I think that’s important. That being said they could also run into anything imaginable throughout their journey
I always thought that the heart virus that Goku had managed to kill him because becoming a Super Saiyan lowered his heart condition/health due to him having to get angry accelerating his heart not being able to fully control it without some training

I think Dragon Ball Super retcons the end of Z. I think the new official end of Z is the end of the battle with Buu. And then Super erases all of the stuff after that 10 year time skip. It's pretty obvious that when they decided to end Z they never had another series in mind, so they wrapped it up. But with the introduction of Super, they kind of retcon the end of Z to now be Super's canon, and the time skip stuff isn't canon anymore.

I thought in the anime Vegeta said he was much stronger than Gohan before the "Majin boost". At which point he had to have reached Super Saiyan 2 before receiving the "majin boost".
That whole "it's his dream, not Chichi's" thing; the kid is 4 years old, his "dream" is what his mother has been drilling into his head since he was born.
Dude thank you like let’s not act like a 4 year old has ever wanted to be a scholar growing up unless it’s been drilled into his mind for those 4 years he’s been alive like and I understand why chichi wanted him to be one too liek the were basically hillbillies as stated in TFS DBZ Abridged they reference it so many time so of course she want she son to grow up smart so he can get rich and get them out of the boonies lol understandable but like that’s most Asian mothers become a very educated person and make lots of money hell I’d say that’s most mothers wishes for their kids 🤣🤣🤣
@@nicksibrava9785 Except that's countered in the manga by Chichi training Goten to be a warrior since that was his wish, not to be a scholar like Gohan.

2:18 it wouldve been interesting if both Yamcha and Tien drank the water and unlocked their potentials, but Krillin didnt because he had already died before and couldnt be revived again by the dragon balls, so he would have to try keeping on the same level as Tien and Yamcha with his training only Kinda wish these parts had been better detailed and we saw everyone training on their own
I actually didn’t mind the filler in the original DB and DBZ anime’s because they filled in some of these time skips- the stuff between Baba and the 22nd tournament being a personal favorite.
I like filler because it gives us more scenes that flesh out the humanity and daily lives of the characters I love, like spending a day at an amusement park with friends
14:22 ffs Goku. You weren't there for Chi-Chi's pregnancy with Goten, but you were there for Gohan. Thank you for addressing the 4 year time skip going from buu saga - BoG You have no idea how many people I’ve heard say “DBS is only a few months after Z” when that makes literally no sense and has nothing backing it up
Its notable that the other Z fighters are always a step behind Goku. When he trained at Karens tower, the fighters training like Goku around the world. When he trained with god, they trained in the tower. When he trained with Kaio, they train with god. And so on ...
gravity training was too much for him at the time when he first went into the chamber and then when he went through it again on King Kai's planet he didn't have any experience using that kind of training in between that time
7:20 Just because Goku dies 2 years into the time skip doesn’t mean that’s when he caught it, He could have had it since birth but it took this long to kill him.
the amount of likes compared to the views is sad... it's a really professional and fun video... literally less than one in twenty people liked the video
I imagine that Yamcha still being an outdoorsy kinda person in early dbz would probably end up training super hard, get exhausted and relax somewhere. At that point an animal could've ambushed him scratched then when his guard and power level was down.
Video suggestion: I'm rewatching the saiyan arc right now and upon going back I'm noticing a lot of things that have been retconned about the saiyans. I was wondering if you could do an videos on these and show what is completely overwritten and what could be reconciled. Particularly episode 20 Goku's Ancestors has a full flashback that's been largely broken by Frieza and later story changes.
Is no one going to talk about how kid trunks went ssj for the first time, he was able to do it before he trained with his father in the trainning grounds but never made clear how he did it
The idea that the humans could have gotten as strong as Freeza after 3 years of training is ridiculous, not only because that makes the legendary super saiyan legend seem pointless, but also because it took Vegeta training at hundreds of times Earth's gravity just to achieve the ssj form, while the humans just kept on doing their usual martial arts training. Also Piccolo and Gohan sparring with ssj Goku does not mean either of them are comparable to him and neither does the fact that they were able to hurt Doctor Gero. Remember that Gohan also managed to briefly hurt Freeza in his final form when he believed Goku died on Namek. Power levels don't dictate every single aspect of a fight, Piccolo himself stated that the reason why he could easily break Doctor Gero's body although he absorbed all of Piccolo's ki (and thus should be at least equal to Piccolo) was because Doctor Gero does not know how to manipulate and control his ki. That's why a guy with a power level of X could land a hit that would feel like it came from a guy with power level 2*X, if he knew how to control his ki. So Goku was simply going easy on the 2 so they could still experience a fight with a very powerful opponent.
13:14 i have a question about King kai still being dead : shouldn't he have been revived when the z fighters wished for everyone killed by cell to resurrect ?
Maybe Shenron considers that as Goku killing him, Goku was the one who brought a bomb to him after all. That or Toriyama just forgot, probably safer to go with that second option.
shouldn't King Kai have been brought back to life when the Z-Fighters made the wish to bring everyone killed by Cell back to life?? It never made sense to me why he wasn't unless I am remembering things incorrectly.
@@CarthusDojo Seriously? That's pretty dumb since there was an entire episode of him complaining about not being revived. Hopefully they brought him back during the time skip between Super Broly & Superheroes. Before he's completely forgotten altogether in the future like Launch.

Toriyama didn't write the super manga, Toyotaro pretty much had free reign. Toriyama had more involvement in the Anime than the actual manga in Super.
I think i prefer vegeta going first as it shows some good character growth with him having the humility to beg for training
The movies are not canon the these episodes are probably filler
That purple dragon and the movies are non canon, if you see that dragon in the anime, you can safely assume that it's filler
It's big brain time.

Technically they haven't surpassed whis so he wouldn't tell them to train themselves because he has more to teach
Vegeta 100% lived in the gravity room during that whole time skip where Bulma said they didn’t live together
In Kamis case that makes no sense, since there was the room of time and spirit at Lookout.
@@fkjl4717 the ROSAT is still a controlled environment, albeit in the sense that it is effectively solitary confinement and total isolation; the opposite of what wandering the world achieves

I dont remember the hyperbolic time chamber having a huge difference in gravity, just that as a realm to exist in it was very different

11:25 at first Gohan wanted both, he was also scared of Chichi getting mad.
Haha

Is no one going to talk about how kid trunks went ssj for the first time, he was able to do it before he trained with his father in the trainning grounds but never made clear how he did it
I thought Goku didn't learn to Fly until the Sayian Saga while he was dead? Didn't he learn it and then fly back through Snake Way, or am I crazy?
I know what you were thinking, but he flew for a tiny bit to king kai’s planet, and then started running
Yeah this guys logic is on that preschool level at times
13:14 i have a question about King kai still being dead : shouldn't he have been revived when the z fighters wished for everyone killed by cell to resurrect ?
