Questions on how returning Goat Island to Aboriginal ownership helps Indigenous people

  • Questions are being raised on how NSW Premier Chris Minns returning Goat Island, now Me-Mel, back to Aboriginal ownership helps Indigenous disadvantage.
“Which part of the land is not belonging to Indigenous people, so once you start down this process, where do you finish,” Sky News host James Macpherson said.
“But what I’d like to know is how handing over this small island in the middle of Sydney Harbour - they’re spending about $40 million of taxpayer money to rehabilitate it to give it back - how does this help Indigenous disadvantage.”

Thats exactly how I feel why Maori not recognizing Maori women got the vote when ÑZ women got theirs, the first country in the world to do something I was really proud ofm The men already had it.
Yes lots of renaming of places. All the government departments only have Maori names and now it is road signs. If we are lucky there may be English on some of them but likely just a picture.
Everything that is not working in their life is due to colonisation. Thats not exactly how it happened re interpretations keep coming and seldom benefit any other culture.
The fact that all iwi or tribes had their own language non of it written. I did 3 years of Maori studies in the 80s and how things have changed. There are Maori Schools here thats fine but they want Maori as part of the curriculum and our children need more help with the basics as I understand it so do many Australin. Maori are rewriting a large part of the NZ history curriculum from their perspective. There's is an oral history. Not even how it happened here

The State Government Constitutions have no checks or balances since
    The Australia Act 1986.
This was the year when Australia was separated from UK Privy Council.
The Federal Constitution was the most notably affected as all recourse to Appeal to the objective processes of the Privy Council.
Labor had to take Revenge for the Dismissal of Whitlam, who had been found to have Exceeded Executive Powers granted within the Federal Constitution.
The Referendum is seeking to further diminish the Power of our Federal Constitution. The Power of this Constitution is that it Over rides any Politicians have through the Parliament.
It was designed to stop the Politicians making Power Grabs.
This is the reason they need to hold a Referendum.
To give the Citizens of each state the right to veto it!.
In short the Referendum is an attempt at a Power Grab by Politicians .
This is why they will not tell you what
is intended by the Constitutional Change.
Most past Referendums have failed because people have seen through the veiled "Power grab"
Or they instinctively had grave doubts about the real reason on offer for the "Change".
    In short, :
"If in doubt, throw it out".

I thoroughly agree that Goat Island should be given back to the traditional owners. However, before this is done, the Colonizers must go to Goat Island and remove every single piece of construction, preservation, improvement that they have done to this piece of land. So that when it is returned to the traditional owners under the traditional name of Me-Mel, it is returned to them in the same pristine state that it was before the Colonizers ever sailed into the stretch of water that became known as Sydney Harbour. Then we must round up every Indigenous person who is taking or using any form of advantage or artifact that the Colonizers have introduced into this Country since Invasion Day on the 26/01/1788, and settle them on Me-Mel. We must ensure that they take no Colonizer artifacts or equipment, or food and fresh water with them, no colonizer clothing, sanitation products or any other item that can be construed as a Colonizer invention. Finally they can take Lidia Thorpe and that other Indigenous elder Bruce Pascoe and set them up in the Village Humpy as their Leaders, with Linda Burney as their political advisor.
