For a college English class we had to write a lot of different things and one of our assignments was a short story. I wrote a fictional tale of me driving on the way to college and witnessing an accident. At least that was the pseudo main theme. What I did to tell the story was go through the thought process in my head as I drive. How I checked my mirrors, how I left enough space to stop behind another vehicle just in case it stopped suddenly. How I tried to keep my car perfectly centered in my lane. Oh no, I am coming to a large hill and I can't see over the other side, what if there is a truck coming head on in my lane trying to pass another car? Do I have enough shoulder room to pull out of the way? What evasive move would I make? Oh gosh, I am coming to the wooded area of the road, where we know the deer are and many have been hit before. What if one jumped out in front of me right now? What if that car in the left lane with its left blinker on suddenly decides to turn right instead and pulls into my lane?
After I was done reading the story for the class everyone just stared at me for awhile. The professor didnt' even say anything for a little bit. I started to wonder if I did something wrong or mixed up the assignment and wrote a story that I wasn't supposed to. Then the professor smiled a bit and started to walk the class through what I did. After the class was over I had people coming up to me, "Is this really how you think when you drive?" Yeah, this is how I think when I drive. I am hyper focused on everything. Some would say they were kind of the same and thought they were the only ones. Some would ask if that drove me crazy and I explained that it actually calms me down, that it gives my brain something to focus on.
