it's the lyrics, and the interaction between the two. You could feel the resentment, anger and pain of a broken relationship. It's like performance art. Great tune all these years later.

First live music experience I ever had was GOTYES high school band Downstares. My mind was blown when he was on the grammys, 100% he is an amazing guy. He helped me and my sister move house and never asked for anything.

Where did you get that from? Kimbra has made numerous interviews about this track and this is the first time hearing that.
@@Bronwyn031 If I search whether Kimbra was a last minute replacement, it seems to be true. Another singer bailed on Gotye the night before.
Whatever happened, it's apparent that Kimbra found the vibe and style.

All the sing sing studio clips are amazing! Kimbra really goes wild with her version of “Plain gold ring”in one of the songs from that recording session.
Kimbra is one of the under appreciated artists today in my opinion, has collabs with big names like Jacob collier or cory Wong.
"Heart's a mess" is another Goyte song a few years before this one, similar unusual electronic sounds and an interesting clip.

Kimbra is a force of Nature, from New Zealand.. this album was self-recorded in his bedroom, in a share house, hence some of the singing isnt "belted out".. haha

I've liked this song for a long time. At first I always thought the singer was Sting from The Police. He has such a similar voice! But... you should also listen to some of Kimbra's solo songs! She is really good!

In the album the guitar is a sample of Louiz Bonfas song Seville. This song is actually 7 samples from other songs. I think its all sampled except the meletron.

I was hearing this often on the radio, when I finally got around to looking it up I found the cover of this song by a group called Walk off the Earth, I became a fan of WotE from then on. For another Gotye song look up the song "Hearts a mess".
If you like rhis you will love Lara Fabian and Johnny Halliday duet live in Paris inb he rain "Requiem pour un fou", 1998. With or without tne subtitles, but watch it both ways later.

The lyrics are really good, and I recognized the instrumental from an old Brazilian song. When I checked the bio, I found out they were accused of plagiarism and had to include in the song's description that it "Contains a sample of the recording Seville as performed by Luiz Bonfa."

You absolutely must see the cover of this song by Walk Off the Earth.
Kimbra often electronically manipulated her voice, so that doubling of the voice in the second chorus. You should listen to the original recording as well, it is so well mastered. Another of my favouriotes from gotye is 'hearts a mess' or 'smoke and mirrors'. Kimbra is fantastic as well, you should check out 'settle down' or 'two way street'
