    What box software did you use? I just got Term Pro which has the ability to export to CAD so could feed to CNC (I think). Great build btw, basically how I would consider doing ATMOS style speakers and/or side/ceiling mounted angled firing drivers. I am curious though they do have a high compression in it.. does it sound as good as if you had used a somewhat smaller woofer and separate tweeter/horn maybe? I am also hesitant about the crossover stuff being inside the cabinet where I would think the sound pressure/waves inside the box might "loosen" something. For that reason I'd put the crossover in a separate little box with openings in the back perhaps for some cooling/air flow (and no air leaks where it is mounted inside). I'd also say, it would be very cool to show how you mount these. They are big/heavy. No doubt a 2x4 stud to mount them on. But do you drill holes in to the box on the back side to mount them? Or build a shelf/bracket to hold them in place?

    You are a much better builder than me BUT i would suggest wrapping the speaker wire in cloth tape to reduce the chance of rattle/vibration. Also, that T-nut method is not good. Are you able to make a ring on the inside of your baffle? What i have seen done is a ring is made the same diameter as the driver cut out on the inside diameter and O.D. is about 1" wide and then you cut the ring in half to slip it inside of the enclosure, then glue it in and maybe brad nail it.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  2 месяца назад +1

      @@robertmedina3195 thank you for the kind words and the helpful hints. I usually do wrap the speaker wire. In this case, it wasn’t necessary because of the acoustic fill. That keeps it in roughly the same place and prevents rattling. You could do the Tnuts with a ring if you want to. In fact, I’ve done that with a lot of builds. However, there are a few things that you need to think about. First will the ring fit? And in this particular case you could with modification. You would have to straighten off the top and bottom because of the angles of the cabinet. You also would want to make up for some of that volume if you could. This is a pretty small build where every time you add more into the cabinet, it will affect the volume. In this case, it probably wouldn’t be a dramatic difference. So it is possible to do, and you can do it that way if you’d like.

    only problem with making cheaper versions of jtr speakers is all of the money in jtr speakers are spent an parts not finishes. Brands that spend all of their money on marketing and fancy finishes are much easier to beat with diy i would think.

      @Ry-lx2kl 2 месяца назад

      You'd be surprised at how much margin these companies have on their products. 4-5x cost of parts isn't uncommon. Fancy finishes are not the easiest to DIY and are usually time-consuming. Some speakers that cost thousands cheap out on crossover components. Things most customers would never see and don't understand are easy places to cut costs and increase margins.

      @bingdong8571 I don't have their parts list to do the math myself. Do you have those parts lists? I'm just looking at what was done here for $300. What drivers is JTR using? What are their crossover components? $1300 leaves some wiggle room for quality parts and still a 2x profit. But it sounds like you know their products better than I do. Are they using $600 drivers and $400 in really high-end crossover parts?

    • @bingdong8571
      @bingdong8571 2 месяца назад

      @@Ry-lx2kl b&c, they sell the driver on parts express. the crossover components are more difficult. Had to do some guessing but if u can get ur hands on one you woild be shocked at the size and weight of that thing. probably weighs more thaan this completed version.

    • @Ry-lx2kl
      @Ry-lx2kl 2 месяца назад

      @bingdong8571 B&C makes some of the best drivers in the world. Even so, the most expensive coaxial I found on Parts express from them is:
      B&C 10CXN64-8 10" Professional Neodymium Coaxial Speaker 80 x 80 Degree 8 Ohm @ $431.25. I don't know what crossover they use, but the B&C branded crossovers go for ~ $130 on parts express. So that puts us a $560+ the enclosure. There are costs of running a business orther than the parts themselves. These speakers focus on a narrow section of the audio speaker world. By necessity of volume of sales, they need to make a decent margin. If they charge 2x parts, I would agree with you that their margins are slim compared to the competition. That translates to a lot of value for the end user.
