Hello , Great refresher video . I will be removing my transfer case because the front input seal is slowly leaking transmission fluid into my transfer case . Transmission fluid was low opened fill plug on transfer case and it poured out . Have heard this can be catastrophic to the trans and case with different fluids mixing at improper levels . Always open your fill plug first . One to be sure you will be able to fill when ready and two fast diagnosis if input shaft is bad on transfer case. Have a great day .
Glad to hear that. I really try to help people where possible. Thanks for watching. Here are more videos on that truck if you want to see them ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi6Y2dbHxAI5nXfgSniOb4zC
Danny Johnson Your welcome, I mean it. I probably need to replace my tc and your video gives me a good idea on what to expect. Btw. I got some grinding/vibration at low speeds. I got the truck on the jacks and get none of that. There is significant play in the tc though. Particularly in the front end. Does it sound like it is the transfer case?
Why? Because they are the same dopes that would never attempt the job themselves, take theirs to the nearest mechanic, and at the same time talk as though they know everything. Their idea of a well equipped tool box is an adjustable 10" Crescent, pair of pliers, screwdriver(maybe more than one, but not necessarily), and a hammer.
They are externally balanced so it shouldn’t really matter, but some people do just so it is how it came off. These videos came from the f150 getting a new transmission so it won’t be the exact same as it came off
Daniel Hinkle YES! Though the transfer case isn’t perfectly flat on the bottom I was able to put the chain over it and keep it tight. I installed both the transfer case (and the entire transmission as well) by myself with the transmission jack. (I would not recommend doing it alone but I did it). This video was actually taken from my entire transmission swap series. ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi6BdCNigzFut5l90PODfubX
Daniel Hinkle You won’t be disappointed. I’ve used it many times, even on standard transmission cars that I typically lift with a second person by hand. They pivot and roll perfectly to line it all up. Here is my small review on the one I used. ruclips.net/video/_abppvn2MN4/видео.html
Hi Danny, the service manual notes to remove the transfer case to replace the transmission mount. Do you think it’s possible to replace without removing the transfer case? Thanks for the great video
great video. I was about to take off transfer case from transmission. I noticed there is a latch type thing connected to transfer case that is also attached to transmission which I believe to be a spacer on transmission in between transfer case and transmission.
Isidro Lucero I’m not sure if there is a part number or not. I would try to pull one from the most similar year you can. Maybe you can find a part number when you remove your old one
I have a question. I know its not suppose to, but the front drive shaft on a 2012 Ford Mark LT 4x4 has a lot of play approximately 1/4 of a turn. The shaft connected to the differential and the front rear shaft connected to the transfer case. What do you think? Transfer case needs to be replaced? & What about the front? Do you think the gears are bad or where the axle is connected to the the front driveshaft. Awesome video by the way. I can send you a video if you'd like.
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage how did it all go?... hopefully good. Gonna be replacing a torque converter in my 97 4x4 here soon, don't look like it's gonna be pretty.
It went well. You can follow my videos on it. It’s nearly the same process. You might just have to work around some sway bars and things that are in a different location, but otherwise it’s the same process shown in the link above
I do not know what year the truck you are working on is, But my F-150 has a cross brace for the torsion bars and needs to be removed to take out the transfercase. This video does not show the brace on the truck near the transfercase.
Preston Pearson This was a 2008 As I recall. Is yours factory or does it have a lift kit? On the nissan transmission video I have it had cross braces, but they were aftermarket
Preston Pearson They must have had a different cross brace. Other than that, the process itself should be the same. I changed the transmisión in the video without a manual after changing a transmission from a suburban. It’s all the same process
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage It is more of a process with the cross brace as the cross brace has the tension bars attached to it. That is where I am stuck without the tension bar tool. All that has been done so far is removal of tranfercase guard. And the price of the tool which will only be used once for each tension bar is costly.
Jojo Gut You can also drop it down as one piece. On the nissan frontier I just did we dropped it as one piece with the transmission. If you’re doing it alone it may be easier to break it up into smaller pieces
Danny Johnson alright thanks i was just wondering because I took everything off but the transmission ain't coming out ive used pry bar before but it's already sold and I don't want to break it
Danny Johnson thanks for the help I appreciate it man only thing I did did was leave the transfer case maybe if I wiggle the cs it'll come out easier thanks again
Thanks for the video, fixing to change the seal in a transmission on a 350 , 4x4 Ford Duly , its leaking thru the weep hole..I hope that's what it is anyway.. Just found your site,i rang the bell ?? Man your floors are spotless. Thanks See Ya Texas
Shift the tcase into 4x4 to break bolts if you dont have someone to help. So long as the trans is in park it wont spin
Thanks man. I was trying to understand why my tires wasn't spinning the shaft like he did in the video. Duh. It can't if not engaged.

Thank you. Yeah, on my other videos like the differential I mentioned opening the fill plug first but I must have forgot on this video
Thank you. This made my work easier. Guy told me $800 with my part but would offer warranty. You made it easier for me sir.

Ford Junk.. looks like it new yet.. no warranty?? I gotta change mine out..
Stanley Kania This one had nothing wrong. I took it off as part of the transmission replacement with over 100,000 miles
I don't know why anyone would dislike the video.
Thank you.

Should you mark the rear driveshaft like you did the front?

@Danny Johnson’s Garage Thankyou! Taking the bw4417 out. Appreciate the quick reply. 👍
Did that transmission jack make life easier putting the transfer case back in?
Daniel Hinkle YES! Though the transfer case isn’t perfectly flat on the bottom I was able to put the chain over it and keep it tight. What year is it?
When did you remove the torsion bars?
I didn’t
I changed my transfer case today
Hooray!
Hi Danny, the service manual notes to remove the transfer case to replace the transmission mount. Do you think it’s possible to replace without removing the transfer case? Thanks for the great video
Richard Goetchius That should not be necessary as long as you support the entire transmission.
I have an 03 f150 super crew . I believe I will have to. Right?
It’s possible for that year
What's the line that's connected to the transfer case
Vacuum line. It’s how it’s activated
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage does the other end of the line connected to the top of the transmission
That's the vent line not vacuum line

I cracked that piece on my truck, dont know how imma get a new one.

did you have to remove the torsion bar from underneath the transfer case?

The transfer case should have a small metal tag bolted to the bottom of it with identification info
You can see the tag at 10:03 in the video

I would put it i to 4 wheel drive and then check the play (be careful doing so of course and make sure it’s in park before getting under it).
If I remove the transfer case would the transmission leak?
Yes, it does share the same fluid, so keep track on how much comes out. It wont lose a lot but it does share
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage thanks
If you don’t mind me asking, what went wrong with the TC?

Yes

It would be the same process as removing it, but in reverse

Not on this year (2007)

what is symptoms of a transfer bad????
Really bad whining when engaged (it’s normal to make some noise), grinding, seized gears, etc. You’ll know when it’s bad
a bad transfer case can damage the transmission?
@@pasivo2009 good question
They balance driveshafts on a machine, not in the vehicle. Orientation of the driveshaft with the tcase is not inportant to the balance of the shaft.
They do, but it also has to do with how it wears on the vehicle- so I’ve been told. May be a myth
What kind of time did it take to uninstall-reinstall ?
