How crispy it is depends on the length of time in the machine without being burned. The results we want to achieve is a crispy outer crust, and soft inside. However, once cooled, the moisture from the inside will causes the waffle to becomes soft and non crispy overall. It won't affect the results even if you try to put it in the fridge first. But if you really want to make it extra crispy, you can add 1/4 tea spoon of baking soda to the batter, but it gets burn more easily.
Low protein flour will give even better results as they are less chewy. If you have baking powder, you can add one teaspoon to the mixture. If you want to have extra crusty effect, add 1/5 teaspoon of baking soda as well.
