- Welcome to my MCC Legendary Speedrun Guides! Today we show off the "Keyes bump" from Halo 1 (Combat Evolved Anniversary).
My goal with this series is to help everyone complete every Halo game on Legendary difficulty using the latest speedrunning tips and tricks. If you have any questions or I forgot to explain something in the video, please ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer!

It a shame that that plasma shield launch is really hard to do first time. By the time I'd have pulled it off, I could've finished the entire mission on a normal play-through.

I remember as a kid accidently getting outside the pilar of autumn by messing around with those plasma shields. Nearly shit my britches.

Great guide. Just got into speedrunning and your videos help a lot. It took me a couple tries to get it lined up right and still managed to beat the mission in just 5:05. And people, practice makes perfect. He probably spent countless times trying to figure out the shield bump as well. What he shows on RUclips is just the one time that went perfect when in reality he's tried hundreds of times like us. Keep trying your best and don't give up. You will feel unstoppable when you finally pull this glitch off.

Fun fact: even if the flood kill the Masterchief during cutscene you're actually perfectly safe. I've been trying to speedrun this level for the last two days (whenever I get past the cutscene the spec ops grunts and elites kill me so working that) and have had the chief die more often than not.
According to the halo wikis in actual fact the Chief in the cutscene is not the player. The player is safely tucked away underneath the platform and ramp on which the protogravemind/Keyes stands to keep them safe. Afterword I don't think there's any surviving flood other than that one or they don't really attack you. The cutscene itself will still have Keyes's head exploding and fluids all over the place but at the end you'll still be in the spot you always end up in after the cutscene completely unharmed.
Still haven't gotten the run but found out that the flood can in fact notice the real you. You CAN be killed during the the cutscene but the only way you'll know you're the one getting hit is the the screen shaking. This'll also hold true of little infection forms that die on your shields. Also having watched a few other speedruns of this leven I've found that the Master Chief in the cutscene will drop like 3 or 4 grenades and a pistol if he dies. Thus potentially you can actually get a couple of frags out of having the acting Chief die.

For people struggling with shield bump, try flood bump. Same concept of positioning but a bit more forgiving

took me like 30 minutes to get this. very nice. Note: be very careful when you finally do get the bump from the shield. when youre jumping backwards to get into the keys room you can fall back into the hallway where you started, or fall through the map and die. so be very careful.
It would help if you explained the highly technical things in greater detail instead of glossing over them.

Flood bump is so much easier and less finicky than the shield bump
These are so entertaining to watch. I would never even try speed running, but these are so much fun to watch for some reason.
The shield bump took me a good hour or so, but I finally did it! So worth it! The golden sniper looks awesome. Thanks so much for this, Eli!

Thanks! I ended up doing the shield bump just took about 5 to 10 min to figure it out. Use to glitch a lot back in the day and it kind of reminds me of cod4 elevator glitches lol. Beat the mission in about 4 min after trying it again when i figured it out.
I manage to get have a run of 4.34min, thk to this video after 15min of practice. It work, I'm on pc, in mcc. But I'd like to tell anyone trying this trick that my reticule does NOT line up correctly with what been shown in this video(maybe because of an update, maybe Naked Eli play on Xbox, I dunno) . But the exact center does. So try to line up the center, and then when you will have a successful one, clip the last 30sec, replay and pause to see exactly where your reticule was when you got launch. And then practice. GL, thanks Eli, great video.
The wall skip at the start took me so many tries, but as soon as i got it i finished the run on that attempt.

So that's not patched? I was just trying it and it puts on the level right above the room you're in but you can't go anywhere from there
@@dcmiii167 at the time of my comment no, atleast in the console version of MCC.
Don't know if they patched it on the PC version.
I also got ported into a room above the place you're meant to be which i found to be a failed attempt.
It's literally a pixel perfect skip, if you're not precisely where you need to be it wont work. Took me like an hour of trying over and over again. Goodluck! :)

took me a little bit to get the shield jump right, mine is not as perfect but it works. I was kinda in a death loop so I reset to do this thanks.
Only took me 2 hours, but I finally got it down :)

you're in fact right the missions aren't. but that shield jump at the beginning sure as hell didn't take you 20 min to pull off.
Hell yeah this made the level super fast. After spending ages on figuring out how to get past the shield, I raced through with an incredible speed of 1d13h48m16s lol but seriously, this was somehow more consistent than the angled-wall breach with the friendly. Idk why I couldn't get that one to work. Thank you!
Hey guys just a tip I've been practicing and it is a lot easier to get if you use the d pad to get the pixels perfect
After a few days and watching different vids I got it, a big help was killing Bruno before the bump to quickly setup the bump
If you’re reading this do the flood bump it’s so much easier and faster, i’m a novice at speed running and beat this mission in 2:13, did the bump first time no hassle and smashed eli’s time by over a minute.

I love these videos. You killed it. You should’ve done a video of you going through the mission along with the glitch. You have a great choice of words when you explain and strategize. But I still had no luck. Still A+
U are the goat man i got really lucky and managed to glitch to the ceiling after only like 5 minutes of trying and was able to complete the rest very shortly from there

You guys should try to line up the bottom left "notch" of the reticle with the "left" half of the upper circle on that small pad. Make sure you're looking straight down.
I kept getting teleported to the room above.
The keyes bump is so tough to get right. I got it to work about four out of 50-75 attempts. But thankfully its still faster for me than going through the rest of the level. now to see if i can't get it done on legendary to get that par time. I just need to learn exactly where to stand a bit better.
At least its not swordfly. I still need to cut an hour or so off my h2 legendary times. and regret and gravemind are all i have left.
I finally got it and when I went in the roof I was stuck in the upper level, couldn't get through the wall. Can't explain how mad that made me. Do you think this trick got patched? If so is there an alternative because Keyes is my all time least favorite mission to do on Halo.

Thanks i did it with the floodbump however i did everything the same as u expect for that,but the floodbump much more consitent without zero pratice and imanaged to get myself on the global leaderboard im the 382th with 2:07
I can get the shield bump to work but I can't get into the Keyes romm because every time you have to jump backwards along the hallway I always either fall through into the hall or off the edge and die
Need help with the positioning on top of the barrier.
For an IL is the flood bump faster
been lucky to get a checkpoint near that part with the shield. Just means I can many attempts to get it right while Mr Bruno is enjoying my fails as my score goes high into the negatives.
Got the shield bump in 5 minutes but butchered the hallway jump. Ahh, first time speedruns. I should revisit this when I'm not half asleep
Does this still work because every time I do it I end up in the room above me but not on the wall in the room
not sure if you have tested it since last year but yes it does still work

If anyone still having a hard time best thing I can say is one the plasma make the bottom left right on top of the Circle and the map make the point tip poke on the uper right side of the map (pause at 0:36 and look at the map and gun you'll see)
For anyone wondering if the glitch in this video still works. I’m playing Halo CE on MCC on Xbox One. And I can say it definitely still works
50 minutes for glitch. At one point I got into it correctly(on map walls not on lower floor) 3 times in a row. Problem wasn't getting into it but not knowing I could easily fall to my death, bounce off walls, etc.. once you're on out of map walls and make jump onto lower level, you can line up to the left side of the visual map the way he did. But what helped me get it was realizing I'm walking along the top edges of the hallway. So if you do it at all diagonally you'll fall through ceiling. Also used source outside this video to lineup crosshairs to shield. Good luck all

Help! I can do the shield bump consistently now but I just can't escape the room after the cutscene with Keyes. I throw a grenade where you do to turn their attention away but I cant even get around the corner without dying :(

Not sure about the original xbox version, but in the pc version, the master chief in the cutscene is not actually the player. The player is hidden somewhere below that platform (you can see it with a flycam in pc version), which the flood almost never discover. So letting the flood kill the cutscene master chief doesn't revert you to the last checkpoint.
I thought the MCC version should be the same, but I never tried. Maybe they changed it so that you will be killed during the cutscene?

eli love your videos...... ive seen a flood bump at the beginning of this level, seems to be easier but all the videos I find don't really explain what they are doing....I was wondering if you would be willing to upload an alternate video with the flood bump at the beginning instead of the shield bunp?

Did it after I practiced a few times, and got a time of 7:03. Not as impressive as yours, but not bad for my first try speed running this mission.
Hey Eli have you tried using the flood to bump through the wall on this level? I just discovered it and it saved me a TON of time.
It took me 19 minutes to do this for me, but I was trying that bump for most of it
took me 30 mins lets go!!!! the hard part was landing on those curves i started it over so i gotta 8 min speed run

Awesome, took me 3 different attempts at the shield launch and about 15m but much easier than facing the onslaught hahah.
Are you using a different FoV or something? - I can't get the top of the deployable cover and the top of the bottom section in the same screen. I've sat on that damn thing for an hour and a half now. Pulled it off by accident once while jumping over it, but never on purpose >:-(
Ive tried the shield bump for 3 hours, the flood bump for a couple hours and actually doing the run for a couple hours, i can't do it
you do the updated version? i have it down to a science checkpoint rightbefore pulling flood so u can see if hes one that will get up or not.
Bump took me 3 tries. Backwards jumping took me 1. The elites and grunts after the Keyes cutscene? For fucking ever. I had no grenades cause I threw them all like an idiot.

Mr. Whiskers da cat ive had it put me in the ceiling 1/10 times, 8/10 times the room above and the rest I either go into the wall and fall to my death or pop out....
rmyd027 have you done it yet? If not, kill the first grunt in the level and take Bruno back to where you spawn at the beginning of the mission. There is a way to flood bump up there instead, which was pretty hard, but much more reliable than the shield bump. It should pop up if you look up like Keyes speedrun bump or something like that!

this mission took me literally 1 hour to complete at my first time playing halo

I think that the recent update actually made the shield bump impossible or at least significantly harder. I had found the positioning to line up the AR reticle that worked at least 9 out of every 10 attempts but when I tried showing it to someone and even attempting it again today, it just pushes me to the side or knocks me under the map, killing me. Occasionally, it will knock me to the right spot but I just fall through the ground immediately before even moving and die. This is very annoying but at least I got the LASO run out of the way using this before it got altered.
I just did it. They don't ever fix these things.
Travis Harrison 343 have confirmed that all glitches in the original game are left alone. This glitch is no harder or easier, it just seems that way to you.
I cannot get this to work to save my life
...Did it after hours of trying. got a checkpoint in the ceiling. I thought "oh awesome!". fucked up jump. fell through level & died. It's okay I have a checkpoint! The game I guess knows I'm not supposed to be there...so it just spawns me in random places in the ceiling. Some checkpoints take me back to the perfect spot,some just throw me somewhere random.. eventually found my way...13:47 minutes -__-
