- Welcome to my MCC Legendary Speedrun Guides! Today we're tackling everyone's favorite mission "The Library" from Halo 1 (Combat Evolved Anniversary).
My goal with this series is to help everyone complete every Halo game on Legendary difficulty using the latest speedrunning tips and tricks. If you have any questions or I forgot to explain something in the video, please ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer!

@@KiyaWarrior first thing off: If you need to use a bug to clear the level then you say that a level is "easy" then no, the level is not easy, at least when you put in that perspective that you have to cheat in order to finish it (even though it's fairly easy even on legendary, the only problem is how long and how useless it is) second thing: still boring and unnecessary tho, Why not teleport chief directly on the right room instead of making him walk through this long-ass unnecessary level that serves no purpose besides adding some gameplay time... even Truth and Reconciliation or Keyes, as repetitive those levels were, they're way more interesting to play than the Walking Simulator known as the Library

ZakuMeister Play it on LASO. I did. Your description is not far off. Still not as bad as Gravemind on H2A LASO though. Without the Envy skull, that level is harder than every level of all the other Halo games on LASO put together.
Its confirmed... Hell is just playing the library and Halo 2 on legendary
I think it's worth mentioning that shooting the carrier forms in the legs causes them to explode instantly, otherwise they fall to the ground and delay the action for a few seconds. This way you can use them as grenades of sorts.
Why doesn't Guilty Spark just teleport you to the index????
Because then this mission wouldn't have ever existed. What a tragedy that would be. *sarcasm
he doesn't teleport you because his mission is to evaluate your ability/chance of being a Reclaimer. He needs to see you in action, to prove that you can survive and are worthy to hold the Index. It was in one of the books, plus i think the game hints at it too
+Noble It's like the Matrix. Why don't the machines just use nuclear energy then they don't need the humans. Then there wouldn't be a movie.

The creators of Halo admitted that the teleporting parts are the worst parts of the story cus it was admittedly a shortcut for the player to get to the next mission easily. Just listen to their commentary over the ending of Two Betrayals when Chief teleports to the Truth and Reconciliation

I kinda want to add the times when he reaches each floor.
Therefore, here they are:
1st Floor - 0:00
2nd Floor - 2:58 first elevator, 3:16 at the 2nd floor
3rd Floor - 7:00 at second elevator, 7:14 at 3rd floor
4th (and final) Floor - 12:50 at final elevator, 13:05 at 4th floor
There you go! Hope this helps you guys. If you want times for critical sections, look between the floor times I posted. Good luck on your runs, and have a great one!

Does it in 15:31 seconds and I do it in two hours. Inhuman.
Now on to Two Betrayals.
One door where a bunch of flood (exploders with them) took me about 15 minutes to get through. (first normal run. I was, like, 8 at the time.)
My old time was like an hour and a half I watched this video while playing through the mission and got 28 mins so slowy improving 😂

I think he is trying to show cheif the dangers of the flood or see how cheif handles them. This seems to fit in with his sarcastic and aloof personality.

This. Fun fact: chief was actually the second human to be teleported to the library. The first was a marine. He almost made it to the index, but was ultimately infected. In the book 'The Flood', chief finds his corpse and remarks at how hard he'd fought to get as far as he did with no augmentations or MJOLNIR.

I’ve spent the last 15 minutes just trying to make it on top of that tunnel at the beginning! I make the grenade jump, but every time I crouch jump to the tunnel I’m always a little short.
I was the other way around. I could never make the grenade jump work. But then I made the crouch jump just fine. But then I find out I didn’t activate 343 correctly with him still being in the first section, then having to start it all over again
Man this mission is so fun!

I got so unlucky with that last section; not only could I just not get to the cutscene trigger, I then got a checkpoint in the middle of all the fuckers.
Somehow, with enough grenade spam and running for my whole families lives, I did it, thanks to this guide, just a minute or two ago. I feel like crying now.

I just got MCC not too long ago and I’ve been trying to do some of the stuff you do in your videos, and man, you’re pretty great at this stuff. Even on normal, I tried clearing this level out and it took twice as long
The room at 10:40 must have shaved at least 30 years off my life.
I must have spent at least an hour slamming my head against this encounter, gradually optimizing my strategy only to die countless times; it didn't matter how well I performed or how many I killed, more enemies would just keep flooding out the further I'd get. It was so demoralizing, utterly exhausting. I simply couldn't do it.
Imagine how it felt to learn that I can just bypass that entire combat encounter by just hiding and waiting! This level is so spiteful, I can't help but be in awe of it. Thank you for getting me through this, man. I really appreciate it.
This level actually gave me nightmares. I played a heroic blind run when I was 7. It did not end well

This level killed CE and nearly the MCC as a whole for me. I was so excited to finally experience Halo for the first time, and this absolute nightmare of a level popped up. Since then I've finished Halo 2, 3 and Reach on Legendary - but never once have I revisited CE.
the devs were poking fun at the level designer during commentary of how long and arduous he made this level.

There is a useful health pack/rocket launcher right in the second cubby right before the last door. For some reason, there is a false wall there in anniversary so you'll only notice it in classic.
Thanks for the guide Eli, with your help I was able to get a time of 15:42, making me 15th in the world on the MCC leaderboad!

I can believe that 343 Guilty Spark is sadistic enough to make you traverse all the floors over teleporting you to the top.
I had to finish this level to get all the campaign achievements for the MCC. Your guide means i won't have to touch this level ever again. Cheers man

Truth an reconaltion
Thanks for this guide. I actually have grown to enjoy this level. The anniversary graphics make it much brighter and if you take it slow and steady you always have enough pistol and shotgun ammo. I completed it on legendary with iron skull (just save/quit before re spawning), catch skull (flood don't throw grenades, but they drop more), thunderstorm skull (flood don't have upgraded ranks) and pinyata skull (punch the infection forms for plasma grenades). Got well above par score and the "That just happened" achievement, as well as progress towards completing whole campaign on legendary. The level has a nice rythym to it.
That was great, thanks! I used this vid to help get the two Halo: CE Anniversary achievements to not die and beat it under 30 minutes on Heroic.

I used like 3 hours on this map in legendary omg
I was alright on this one. About 1hr 20mins. Two Betrayals took me over 2 hours though -_-

this saved me a very painful time all of these videos have cause im finally doing the MCC on legendary after putting it off for so long i wish i knew all of these like 12 years ago
Guilty sparks behavior in this mission and part of the story was all intentional. He is purposefully holding up the chief to effectively test his abilities and to potentially discover weaknesses in the event that the chief didn't fulfill his agreed duty of helping guilty spark activate the installation he needs to know how to disable or kill the chief. The library had a purpose to retrieve the index and to test and study the chiefs strengths and weaknesses. This is all just my best guess and opinion of course but if you carefully observe guilty sparks behavior in the library mission within this context it does make some sense. He is laughing, giggling, taking his sweet time, starring at and studying you and saying 'I am a genius' all the time under his electronic breath like he is so self assured and impressed with himself .
Glad I'm not the only one, that can hear guilty sparks menacing laugh.
Had a few hiccups in a couple of spots but ended with a 20:07 on my first attempt using this guide, thanks Eli. :)
Just beat it using these tips and it worked beautifully. Got the speed reader achievement too before getting the level complete achievement.
I have a confession to make, this and the second level were my favorite levels, and I liked the Flood. Yes, I played on Legendary.

I just tried this, and on the final door, I grenade jumped, walked to the end of the level, EVERYONE spawned, hit a checkpoint and died...and respawned and died and respawned and died and respawned and died...I flew too close to the sun
I never understood why everyone else tells me that this level is super hard. Back when Halo: CEA came out I got the 2 achievements for this level really easily. I can still get by pretty easily on this level. I always thought The Truth and Reconciliation plus the Two Betrayals level where the hard level. The "look out for the little guys" achievement was the hardest one to get for me. I got it on the 360 but I haven't gotten it on the xbone yet. 😡
I've done this level on legendary but this map really pisses me off, that's why I'm watching your vid so I can avoid as much combat with the flood as possible. The flood just never stops spawning ahhhhhh! ☠️
Yes they do, it just feels like they never stop spawning because of how difficult each encounter is.

He was on legendary though you can do easy :)
I'm not a pro and I got it in 22 minutes on Legendary following Eli's guide so you can do it too buddy :)
And the par time is 25 minutes btw

honestly I had a ton of fun on this one. you made my time go from 1 hour 4 mins to 31 minutes. That last room fucked up my run lol

Am I the only one who thought this level was pretty damn easy? Maybe it was the strategy I used, but I had a pretty easy time with this level, just used a shotgun. I had a MUCH harder time beating Truth and Reconciliation on Legendary than beating the Library on Legendary. Other than 343 Guilty Spark I think I died on the Library less than any other Halo CE mission.

24:05 was my time using this guide, I had a real issue at the last door, right at the end , where as I jump through the door alot of flood spawned between me and the index, cutting me off for about 5 minutes of attempts, lost some time but as it was right at the end I really hated wanting to restart after all the success of the rest of it xD, still beat Par Time of 25 mins though

Still had the spawn in front of the elevator, despite following the guide. Not sure if it's because I stopped part of the way through and resumed later or what. Thankfully, I snagged a couple of extra grenades along the way. Only speed bump I've hit so far. Thanks for the videos!

this is a useful guide for getting the speed reader achievement.
No matter how use you are used to the flood this level is still overwhelming because of how much of a long f****** walk it is especially every interior looking the same but the hell was bungee thinking at least in spv3 it's a lot better especially with the covenant included in the level.
At 6:04 shotgun the first guy and try to have 1 frag (you'll have to pick it up from a flood somewhere) to throw to the end of your underground walkway near the main level. Then back up just a little for a fraction so the guys stop shooting you. For whatever reason it makes all the combat forms on either side chase after it making it easy to clear them AND take less damage. I found that worked far more consistently.

If you save and quit it won't actually save your progress or eliminate a death like some people say. Also, if you try this on Heroic the first flood with pistol doesn't spawn and the shotgun doesn't either. Gotta do it on legendary
I actually have always liked this level.
I was stuck on Keyes for ages as I could never do the glitch at the start which would teleport you to the end. But this this mission gave me nightmares 😂

343 Guilty spark can't teleport him to the index, because the library is sealed from all other beings except humans. A security measure that the last Forerunners made before they left our galaxy. This was after all the remaining rings were fired.
Thank yet again man , i love halo especially the trilogy as a whole, i played 123 and 4 was so dull and depressing I decided to ignore it like the latest star wars haha halo is a trilogy with great music fun gameplay and outstanding environments, also now mastered A.O.T.C.R enemy despawn thanks to you , truly legendary stuff take it easy :D
Any ideas as to why this isn't working for me - is it patched? - flood keep spawning even when i do this (First floor)

Honestly on this level and anything to do with the flood. I always preferred the shotgun and the machine guns. Mainly because I could one shot a lot of the flood humanoids and for the little guys, I could just mow them down plus with 1 shot when they're grouped together, they blow up.
Speedrunning made the level actually fun 😂

I killed everything that moved or back into a hallway and wait for them and shoot them in the face with a shotgun
I love the guides, just wish you'd tell us to save grenades early. It sucks getting to a trick without grenades.

Not hatin' or anything but running the original version is more fun there isn't even flood bumping in this level which saves tons of time and is nice and inconsistent which is what makes speedrunning awesome!

Man I was for literally 1 hour in normal in this level. But I prefer this level over the silent cartographer 1000 times.
