- Welcome to my MCC Legendary Speedrun Guides! Today we're finishing up Halo 1: Combat Evolved Anniversary with The Maw!
My goal with this series is to help everyone complete every Halo game on Legendary difficulty using the latest speedrunning tips and tricks. If you have any questions or I forgot to explain something in the video, please ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer!

Your strategy to take out the fusion reactors was a lifesaver. That room gets really ugly really quickly, and honestly I don't know of any good way to do it other than going as fast as possible. Thank you!

"Popcorn Flood" = Infection Forms, "daddy popcorn" = Carrier Form.
A friend of mine calls the combat forms potatoes.
I called them Ticks
My friends called the carrier form ballsacs

why doesn't eli have that many fans? i thinks hes the best! i literally rewatch all of his zero shot speed runs on halo 3 once a week :D
For the long jump, the 360 idea is nice, if you stay full acceleration and keep your hands off the right stick until you land it seems to work consistently well for me. Thanks for this guide! I turned on the physics, double explosions, and RIP skulls leading to so much mayhem I couldn't even get the vehicle out of the bay before explosions send it flying around the room. Needed the shortcuts to make it -- ironically after frustrating time with exploding grunts blowing me out of the map I finally finished and got the This Side Up achievement for making it the whole way without getting booted out of the vehicle... first time ever. The middle, left, left for first area is key! Those shortcuts are quite easy, too! Thanks again!

Thanks for explaining the checkpoint problem at 1:55. I could not figure out why the game would not give me another checkpoint because I messed up during the final drive and it put me all the way back to the bridge. Great video!

Differences between the Legendary ending in Classic and Anniversary graphics:
1. In Classic, the Elite touches Johnson's ass, while in Anniversary, Johnson touches the Elite's ass.
2. The Elite in the Legendary ending in Classic was a Stealth Elite, while in Anniversary it was an Elite Zealot.
3. In Classic, Johnson did not drop the Assault Rifle before he hugs the Elite. In Anniversary, he drops the Assault Rifle and then hugs the Elite.
Technically, Johnson and the Elites are both voiced by the same person.
The famous "WORT WORT WORT" is a reversed and slightly slowed down clip of the "Go go go!" Johnson yells during the mission opening cutscene of Truth and Reconciliation.
"Hit it, Marines! Go go go! The corps ain't paying us by the hour!"

Ive finally finished the campaign on legendary. It took me 6 hours playing the the game in total.(Those 6 hours spread across 4 days). Thanks Nak3d Eli. Now time to start Halo 2. I have to say the hardest part in the game for me was Two Betrayals because of the awkward loading and the spawn glitch messed me up a bit. Keyes wasnt really hard because of the flood bump. Did'nt have the patience for that deployable cover bump. But hats off to you man. Thanks.

hey I just want to say thank u I just got the legend achievement thanks to ur halo 1 series I really wished I had found u b4 I spent weeks on halo 2 but I would have probably be spending weeks on halo 1 if I hadn't found your series I got this complete in 2 days by just watching ur videos and all I can say is thanks :)
Thank you so much for this awesome guide Eli! My first Legendary (co-op) run was 10:51:43 lol and thanks to this guide I managed to do my 2nd (solo this time) run in 4:16:12 :D Suddenly the sub 3hrs doesn't seem so impossible :)

Did you know you can use the hunters in this level to push you into the ceiling? Which will let you bypass the need for going to the bridge.
So that whole area and cutscenes can be skipped.

The Easter Egg is canon but Johnson doesn't die. The marine mentions it in the beginning of Halo 2. I believe the line was "You still never told me about how you got off of that ring." or something like that. I don't know for sure so I may be wrong.

The reason Master Guns presumably asks that is because nearly everyone from the Pillar of Autumn dies.
If you read the novels there are several points where they explain things. The novel First strike establishes that Johnson had some sort of rare disease (later got retconned to also be a cover up for some intentional modification) that allowed him to survive being killed and assimilated by the flood. He was ultimately able to escape the ring with a few marines aboard a Pelican that quickly evacuated before the Autumn exploded and from there it's a nice long adventure of how they get back.
ChouRaiyuki I believe that Johnson had regrouped with the other survivors as is implied in the novel about the game. He would have been able to get off the captured Covenant ship that they’d stolen, and taken the Pelican from there, after the Chief or Cortana delivered the news about the plan to destroy the Halo.

I love the fact that The elite in that end cutscene was just adjusting to make the hug comfortable, and people pointed out what it looked like, and then Bunjie accepted the misinterpretation and embraced it, even to reversing the roles in anniversary. Bunjie was one of the greats, and now we have 343 who made halo 4 with a loss of familiarisation in favour of story and emotion, (and promethian knights) needing lore to fully understand, and guns that don't differ... and Halo 5, but there''s no need for explanation there. Let's hope Halo infinite is a massive success so they can redeem themselves.
Hey Eli, I would just have to "infinitely" thank you for your awesome speed run guides. I have never tried to speed run a game in my life and your guides have helped a noob speed runner like me. I practiced all the hard tricks like the keyes bump, bridge jump and all the tricks on the silent cartographer I got Goat Roped achievement this afternoon. I am now moving on to monopolized which will be even harder than halo C.E so it just goes to show that with a little hard work and some practice can make a difference. Keep up with the guides and goodluck everyone else on goatroped :)

another alternative to get pass the long drop is to look all the way up before dropping all the way down to the lower platform. ur warthog will not tilt over and u will land safely.
Notice at 0:37 it said he picked up 505 shotgun shells?

I was really scared when when I payed this on legendary, because I have 18 seconds left when I got to the hanger, I finished with 1 second left
Apparently the world records on this one use a cool trick to skip the whole bridge sequence -- out of map tricks in the restaurant room I think. Pretty sick trick that, and then another awesome time-save in the engine room.

8:28 360 jump? What? I never did a 360 in the original Halo and was able to land it cleaner than you did here like 90% of the time. IIRC all you have to do is pull back on the joystick... Did they change something in MCC?
don't think so, I just duplicated this and did it in 13:18 minutes, not as fast as him, had some deaths but the warthog jump, as you said just had the sticks down, landed it super smooth, glad I didn't try the 360!

Tried the 360 thing like 10 times and failed my runs. Finally just put 100% throttle and got it first try. Don’t know why the 360 thing is in this run, it just complicates things
I've played this game a lot. Different versions all difficulties I have absolutely no idea what this 360 thing is about. I have always managed to get the gap just fine by driving straight, at top speed and on the middle of the "road". Have never had any issues when I do that.
I just release the stick right before I leave the ground. It always works.
With the massive jump in the Warthog you can also point the camera upwards and it will make it less likely that you flip.
I just realized that in Halo 2 the Arbiter is wearing similar armor (game graphical difference) at the start as the Captain Elite in the Legendary Easter egg ending. Though the armor changed in Halo 1 Anniversary graphics to draw the connection. Either way Johnson and the Arbiter (an elite) team up in Halo 2, and that could have been seen as a foreshadow Easter Egg back then.

BIG JUMP TIP: You can go straight off the jump no problem, just slightly release the accelerator as you go off the BIG jump instead of pedal to the metal and it won’t nose dive.
8:30 wtf? I've been playing Halo CE for like 17 years and not once have I ever died in that drop and I've always just driven straight on... No matter the difficulty.

i reccomend a mixture of this tutorial and garish's cafeteria bump since its a pretty decent and easy time save
you really helped me ith my Heroic playthrough troubles. i'm sure Halo 2 should feel less frustrating if i follw along with a tutorial. because my time for Heroic Halo CE is 11 hours.
Hey @Nak3d Eli thank you for all those videos. I managed to glitched out of the map (only) once (!!!) while punching open the door after the ladder, glitching on top of the corridor outside the map. No idea how that happened (sadly didn't record it) and I never was able to replicate it... maybe that helps getting the time even more down ;)
NOTE: At 2:16 it's a squat jump

To avoid getting splattered on the warthog jump I just look up - and if you land well enough you can keep going straight over the jump.

Ďuring the drop. Let off the gas as SOON as you leave the road and put on the gas halfway through the drop and you will land perfectly as near full speed
Easiest way to make that jump is to aim up with the warthog while falling. I don't how it works but you always land correctly without being splatterd or ejected.

After foehammer dies the checkpoint happens at random, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t.

In my head canon , Johnson impressed 😘 the high ranking elite and was invited onto an escaping phantom. The couple would spend a few weeks of rest and romance until arriving on earth. Once home, Johnson was unpleasantly surprised to watch his lover die at the hands of a shocked marine who didn't realize the elite had defected. The Sargent Major carried that loss with him until the very end in which his dying advice to the master chief was: "don't let her go, don't EVER let her go....send me out with a bang....", soon he would be reunited...
To get the checkpoint, you need to drive through that first little patch of fire after E419 dies
Maybe that's the trigger. My stream was telling me to stop at Foehammer, but I definitely hit the checkpoint in this run when I sped on by!

Having just beat this after 5 hours of restarting... fuck this level. So many RNG bullshit sections that all have to line up to beat it. Fuuuckkk this level.

I believe you only have to finish the Maw on legendary to see the cut scene with Johnson. Not the whole game on legendary.

Honestly that elevator trick isn’t that hard at all, just know where one of the Elites stands, don’t stop running forward to clip through, melee one of the Elites in the back, shotgun down the other one, takedown the fuel rod Grunt, then the others, ez win

I just completed all missions of halo ce on legendary and yet my nameplate did not unlock. I can see that all missions are completed as they all have the legendary emblem next to them. WTF

just finished this and I didnt get achievements for completing the campaign on legendary even though it says 10 out of 10 for campaign? Achievement says 90% like I havent done the last one?
