I enjoy your reactions because I can see that you HEAR and react to things most people don't hear. Really listening to music is as much a skill to be developed as playing music is.
AWB is one of the very best bands playing their own instruments and singing without using studio musicians.
When they first started out backing Ben E. King on his European tour, they said that they wanted to be like the Spinners, but playing their own instruments.

Oh my goodness you guys I remember when a WB first came out blew everybody’s mind. I mean they hit the market hard. They put out at least five or six slamming albums. I am not exaggerating. I’m talking about when you put their album on to play, you could listen to every song on both sides. Remember Lakeside like that every album both sides. Hamish Stewart. Imagine he was playing bass and singing lead like that. He played bass guitar and lead guitar. Not sure if I spelled his last name correctly U gotta C him live.

A serious chilly-ish-us reaction 🙆‍♂! Alan Gorrie and Hamish Stuart on lead vocals. The band has Scottish Soul Music in their blood 🩸. I see 👁👁 you have reacted to the Average White Band before: Pick Up The Pieces. A Love Of Your Own was released as the fourth single from Average White Band's 1976 album: Soul Searching. It was written by Hamish Stuart and Ned Doheny. It was produced by Arif Mardin. String and Horn arrangement by Roger Ball. The song reached #35 on the R&B chart. No music video was produced for the song. The song was originally recorded by Ned Doheny in 1976 for his album: Hard Candy, it wasn't released as a single.
In 1996, the Barrio Boyzz performed the song on the TV show: New York Undercover (S2/E20 "Unis"). The Barrio Boyzz song version was also included on the TV series' soundtrack album: New York Undercover - A Night At Natalies (1998).
The song has been covered by other artists including 📻: Millie Scott, The Ebonys, Melissa Manchester, Howard Hewett, Donnie Elbert, Millie Jackson and more.
This song has been sampled by many artists including 💽: AZ, Lil Kim, Master P, Nipsey Hussle, MOP, Brownstone, Rappin' 4-Tay, Big Bub, Mona Lisa, Ed OG & Da Bulldogs, Big Mello and more.
    Lyrics 🗒:
The sooner you give, the sooner you get to have
    A love of your own
The longer it takes, the better you come to know
A love of your own, ooh
Now don't you be afraid, to give your heart
You never know till you try it, yeah
    Don't deny it to yourself
Don't be afraid, just walk right on in
The door is standing open, you know I'm always hoping
The sooner you give, the sooner you get to have
    A love of your own
As far as you go, you're never too far behind
    A love of your own
Now don't you be afraid to shoot the moon
You'll never know till you try it
    Don't deny it to yourself
Don't you be afraid to change your tune, ooh
The offers always open, you know I'm always hoping
    You know I'm always hoping
For, a love of my own, to shelter me from the cold
    A love of my own
A love of my own you never too far behind
    A love of your own
You've got to keep looking till you find
    A love of your own
    A love of your own
You've got to keep looking till you find
    A love of your own
    Average White Band Info 📰:
The Average White Band (aka AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of Soul and Disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental song: "Pick Up The Pieces", and their albums AWB (1974) and Cut The Cake (1975). The band name was initially proposed by Bonnie Bramlett. They have influenced others, such as The Brand New Heavies, and been sampled by various musicians including: Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Too Short, Ice Cube, Eric B & Rakim, Nas, TLC, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Doug E Fresh, Arrested Development and more, making them the 15th most sampled act in history.
The Average White Band was formed in early 1972 in London by Alan Gorrie, and Malcolm "Molly" Duncan, with Owen "Onnie" McIntyre, Michael Rosen, Roger Ball and Robbie McIntosh joining them in the original group line-up. Hamish Stuart quickly replaced Michael Rosen. Malcolm "Molly" Duncan and Roger Ball, affectionately known as "The Dundee Horns", studied at Duncan Of Jordanstone College of Art , and were previously members of the band: Mogul Thrash. Alan Gorrie and Owen "Onnie" McIntyre had been members of the band: Forever More. Owen "Onnie" McIntyre and Robbie McIntosh were used as session musicians on Chuck Berry's recording of his classic 1972 song: "My Ding-A-Ling".
According to Malcolm "Molly" Duncan, members of the band had played together before in Scotland, but had moved to London separately and met up by chance at a Traffic concert. They decided to jam together; a friend heard them and remarked: "This is too much for the average white man", which became adapted as the name of the band.
The band's breakthrough was a support slot at Eric Clapton's comeback concert in 1973. MCA Records released their debut album: Show Your Hand (1973), which sold poorly. Bruce McCaskill, who was Eric Clapton's tour manager, liked the band's music and agreed to manage them. He borrowed money to take them to the US and to promote them. Bruce McCaskill had many contacts from his days with Eric Clapton and managed to get Atlantic Records to sign them to a record contract. The band relocated to Los Angeles and released their follow-up album: AWB, better known as The White Album. It reached No. 1 and was the first of many with renowned music producer Arif Mardin.
Robbie McIntosh passed away from a heroin overdose at a Los Angeles party on September 23, 1974. Alan Gorrie also overdosed, but Cher kept him conscious until medical help arrived. The NME reported in January 1975 that AWB played a benefit show for Robbie McIntosh's widow at the Marquee Club in London. Robbie McIntosh was replaced in the band by Steve Ferrone, previously of the group: Bloodstone.
In 1975, the band's single: "Pick Up the Pieces", taken from the No. 1 AWB album, reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song knocked Linda Ronstadt's song: "You're No Good", out of No. 1 and sold over one million copies. It was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in March 1975. It also prompted The J.B.'s, the backup band of the "Godfather Of Soul", James Brown, to record and release a song in reply: "Pick Up The Pieces, One By One", under the name AABB (Above Average Black Band). It was both a tribute to AWB's knowledge of Funk and a tongue-in-cheek play on the Scottish band's name.
AWB followed up with the LPs Cut The Cake (1975) and Soul Searching (1976), both big sellers and yielding further Top 40 singles. Cut The Cake was dedicated by the surviving band members to Robbie McIntosh's memory. A double live album: "Person To Person", was issued in late 1976. Their next LP, Benny & Us (1977), was a collaboration with the singer Ben E King.
After several more albums: "Warmer Communications" (1978), "Feel No Fret" (1979) and after a switch from Atlantic records over to Arista Records, the group released the albums: "Shine" (1980) and "Cupid's In Fashion" (1982), AWB's audience and sales slowly dwindled. The group subsequently disbanded in 1983.
Steve Ferrone (drummer) went on to work with Duran Duran and later with Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers from 1994 until Tom Petty's death in 2017. Hamish Stuart joined Paul McCartney's touring group. In 1985 Alan Gorrie released a solo album: Sleepless Nights.
The classic group lineup of Alan Gorrie, Robbie McIntyre, Roger Ball, Hamish Stuart, Malcolm "Molly" Duncan and Steve Ferrone reunited for one last time at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary in 1988. Alan Gorrie, Robbie McIntyre, and Roger Ball then continued on in 1989 to record the group album: Aftershock. Alex Ligertwood also appeared on this album, replacing lead singer Hamish Stuart, along with Eliot Lewis who co-wrote songs with Alan Gorrie and joined the band. Alex Ligertwood left after the album's recording and drummer Tiger McNeil joined for the reunited band's live stage shows. Tiger McNeil was with the group until 1994. He was then succeeded by Peter Abbott, who in turn was replaced by Fred "Catfish" Alias in September 1998. Drummer Adam Deitch did a two-year stint with AWB from 1999 to 2001.
The Average White Band continued recording new music for the group's album: Soul Tattoo (1997), and has stayed touring ever since.
In July 2015, Malcolm 'Molly' Duncan, Steve Ferrone and Hamish Stuart reunited to form "The 360 Band". This is in essence one half of the original AWB. They released an album titled: Three Sixty, in 2017 and performed live together along with supporting musicians.
As of 2024, Alan Gorrie and Owen "Onnie" McIntyre are the only two original members left in the Average White Band.
In 2024, 52 years after their formation, the AWB continue to perform their music live on stage.

      Group Members Who Passed 🙏:
      1. Robbie McIntosh (May 6, 1950 - September 23, 1974)
He passed away from an accidental heroin overdose, at a party following a concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, California. According to a contemporary report in Time, Robbie McIntosh and fellow Average White Band group member Alan Gorrie took what they thought was cocaine, but was in fact heroin. Alan Gorrie was saved by the intervention of fellow party-goer Cher, who kept him conscious long enough to recover. The party host, 30-year-old millionaire Kenneth Moss, was subsequently indicted for murder by a grand jury. Kenneth Moss pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 120 days in jail and four years' probation. Robbie McIntosh was laid to rest at Barnhill Cemetery in Dundee, Scotland.
      2. Malcolm "Molly" Duncan (August 24, 1945 - October 8, 2019)
He passed away at his home in Bocholt, Germany on October 8, 2019, at age 74, shortly after it had been announced that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. No information on his burial or funeral are available.
      Miscellaneous Notes 🗃:
As part of the band; Forever More, Alan Gorrie appeared in Lindsay Shonteff's 1970 exploitation film: Permissive, and also composed the scores for Shonteff's films: The Yes Girls (1971) and The Fast Kill (1972).
Malcolm "Molly" Duncan has recorded with Ray Charles, Tom Petty, Buddy Guy, Ben E King, Dire Straits, Bryan Ferry and many others and played live with artists including Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan and Eric Clapton.
Before forming AWB in 1971, Roger Ball was a session musician in London, arranging and playing for Vinegar Joe, Badfinger, Kiki Dee and Elton John, Mama Cass, Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music and others. He has played on stage with Chaka Khan and Marvin Gaye.
Steve Ferrone (drummer) was the only non-Caucasian group member when he joined the band in 1974.
In early 2014, Steve Ferron was inducted into the Drummer’s Hall Of Fame in LA.
In 2016, Hamish Stuart was awarded with a BASCA Gold Badge award.

Listen to these songs from the Average White Band:
Cut the Cake(their 2nd biggest hit), Person to Person, and Cloudy from their Person to Person live album. These are so different and much better than their studio versions.
    Studio versions of these:
School Boy Crush( their 3rd biggest hit)has such a fat bass you will gain 10 pounds!
Queen of My Soul, it has a funky Latin beat to it.
Work to Do, a great Isley Brother’s remake.
The Jugglers, it is so funky!
I Just Wanna Love You, another smooth and sexy song!
