If you want to make buttermilk, take the milk and add about 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Let that sit for 5-10 minutes, and then you got your buttermilk.
EDIT: It's been 6 yrs and I forgot I even commented this lmaooo but yes as some people say lemon juice works fine as well, but wow I'm shocked thx for the likes and comments, glad I can help y'all!

@@samanthajackson6049 I dont have any metal mould, but I have the glass ones but I have only one. So I baked 3 layers and waited them to cool down completely. They turned out amazing! Dont be like me tho, SIFT your dry ingredients or ull have small cacao bubles surfacing. You can use whatever mould you want just bake them one layer at a time. I ended up with 3 thinner layers but that okay, cos the cross cut will look good. Good luck and go for it.

This is hands down the best red velvet cake recipe I've tried. Everyone loved it. Super moist, melts in your mouth. When she says it's moist, she means MOIST. Good thing that the recipe warns you that the batter will be thin because I wasn't having much hope until the cake was finished. Very delicious 😋

We don’t normally comment on many items on RUclips. And we do watch tons of videos. My husband will be turning 70 this weekend and we will have been married for 50 years this June. Between my mom and me we have made him red velvet cakes forever because it’s always been his favorite. Just recently while watching RUclips we stumbled across your cake. WOW!!😮 As we read the recipe and process I thought this seems much simpler than the recipe I used. And it sure is but the finished product is simply delicious. You have shared the best recipe ever. I saw where someone mentioned the coffee. Yes I believe that is one ingredient that makes a difference. I have used coffee in a chocolate cake recipe I make and it makes a huge difference. Well I did one thing different. I have a recipe for frosting that was used by an aunt of mine and I don’t know where it came from but I have not seen or heard of it anywhere. It’s made from crisco, flour, vanilla, milk, butter and sugar. Thanks so very much for sharing this delicious red velvet cake recipe. 0:31

It was so MOIST that is was cracked in the middle kinda like meatloaf.umm yea. so I started crying because I followed the recipe to a T. I was too too thru. Theeeennnn, my husband came into the kitchen & was like, what's wrong? Yea, he heard me crying...I showed him the cake (without the frosting on it) & he was like it don't look too bad. Frost it up he said cause it's gonna crumble when we eat it. Wellllllll, baaaaaabyyy, let me tell you. It was THE BOMB. The BEST CAKE I HAVE EVER MADE!!! WE BOTH ATE IT ALL IN ONE NIGHT!! I made your frosting too. This cake was gone. He said it was the BEST VELVET cake he'd ever eaten. I was soooo happy. It's my first from scratch cake. Turned out a lil boo boo became perfect. Hello, I have just made this cake and it turned out soooooooooooo moist and when I went to turn it over to get out of the pan it stuck big time even after spraying the pans but I forgot one step I always do and didn't I put paper down in the pans so they don't stick also, so I am in the process of making the cake again with the spraying of the pans and then wax paper in the bottom of the pans and then sprayed again so I know they won't stick this time.. the cakes are in the oven again.. But this recipe is so moist like you said.. My husband said to frost the one that torn for us and I said ok but we can't stop eating it because it is so good.. I just made this for my small group today and let me tell you, it was absolutely incredible. I have never been a very successful baker and I must say this was absolutely the most moist cake ever. I cheated on the frosting for the sake of time, I just went to my local store and picked up some frosting that they make daily for their own cakes (Publix, located in their cold cake section). Another plus was that the cake was not overly sweet and didn't have that "homemade" taste, it honestly to me almost didn't need the frosting b/c the cake was so good. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world :-)

To take this cake to another level use white chocolate cream cheese frosting! 1- 8oz. cream cheese, 11oz. of white chocolate bits(ghiradelli or private selection Kroger brand), 1 stick of butter softened, 3 T. confectioners sugar, 2 T. Lemon emulsion (hobby lobby baking isle). Boil 2-3 cups of water; remove from heat and place white chocolate in a stainless steel bowl and set on top of boiling pan rim( if you don't have a double boiler). Let it set there for 5-6 minutes before you start to stir it. Once the chips are completely melted and smooth take off pan and let it set for 1-2 minutes. While the water is boiling, cream together the cream cheese and sugar until well blended. Add the chocolate until blended the mound in softened butter; add the lemon emulsion. You may have to double the recipe to cover a 2-3 layer cake, but taste before you add more than 2T of emulsion. Enjoy!

This recipe was soooooooo amazing. I used it for red velvet cupcakes, and believe me they were SO soft and awesome. I'm vegetarian that's why I left out the eggs and put 1/4th tsp more baking soda and my batter was little less sweet, so I put more sugar. And the outcome was just amazing.

I made this once so far and it was a HIT!! I was requested to make it again at the end of the month again. I doubled the recipe thinking I needed more but I didn't so I wrapped the cake in plastic wrap then wrapped aluminum foil around it as well as stored the leftover frosting in the freezer. I took it out about a week in a half later, thawed it out and it was like new so even after freezing, it's a perfect cake. Thank you!!

So tomorrow I will be serving this cake at a celebration for my daughter. I've just pulled them out of the oven. I say them because I've made a small high round & long/rectangular piece. I will say this it smells AWESOME & I tasted the left over in the bowl & OMG if it taste done the way it taste before ... IT'S GOING TO BE DEEEELISH... I will post results tomorrow. And yes ma'am it is MOIST. I'm not the best baker in the world but this was not hard to follow AT ALL. My daughter's favorite cake is Red Velvet & I wanted to put my touch on it & make it instead paying someone. This celebration is for strength & survival that she's made through a difficult & rare seizure disorder over the last 1 & a half. I won't make this any longer than it is but just know it's changed both of our lives. To see her progressing is a celebration in itself. Again I'll post tomorrow how it went.... Smooches 🤗

My oven doesn't show degrees so I baked it on Gas Mark 3 for 40-45 mins.
For the cream cheese frosting I used the light cream cheese frosting recipe but instead of 3 cups icing sugar I used 2.
    Simply PERFECT. 👌

I reduce it to be 1 1/2 cup and if you do experiment using 2 cups, I think the cream cheese frosting would balance it out to make it not too sweet. (I didn't use a recipe for the cream cheese frosting, i just use 2 blocks of cream cheese and 1/2 cup of butter and add the sugar gradually so it wont overpower the cream cheese taste) hope this helps!

I just made this, but in cupcake form, and it is so so good! I think the best recipe I ever made! I scrolled through every single comment and saw some people were saying it was tasteless, sunk in the middle, too oily, etc etc but none of this was the case for me. Tasteless? Use quality ingredients I.e. use Dutch processed cocoa powder. Sunk in the middle? Try not to overmix and under/over bake. Too oily? One cup isn’t too much, but since the comments scared me, I left out a little bit of oil and it wasn’t too oily in my opinion.
This recipe made me 18 regular cupcakes and 24 mini cupcakes. For my oven, 300-325F - 18-20 mins for regular cupcakes and 10 mins for minis.
