  • The 1966-67 television season featured many new series that would go on to great success, either (or both) during their initial broadcast primetime runs on the networks, and later in the syndication rerun market.
However, the 1966-67 season also marked the end of many fine television series production runs. During this winter and spring, we are looking back and paying tribute to those series that came to a close. One of the best was The Fugitive. The series starred David Janssen and ran on ABC for four seasons, beginning on September 17, 1963 and ending on August 29, 1967.
The finale of the series, broadcast very late in the season, and just prior to the start of the fall 1967-68 season, marked one of the first times a series finale was promoted as such and that final episode garnered some of the highest ratings for a series finale in the history of television. Few series, before or since, have had the impact that this series had. The series won the Emmy for Outstanding Dramatic Series in 1966.
Today is the birthdate of the late David Janssen, who was born on this day March 27, 1931. Janssen had a prolific career on television, starting in the late 1950s with the detective series Richard Diamond that ran for three seasons on CBS from 1957-1959 and on NBC from 1959-1960.
After the success of the Fugitive, Janssen would later star in the series O'Hara, U.S. Treasury, which ran for one season on CBS from September 1971 to March 10, 1972, and finally the series Harry O, which ran on ABC for two seasons from 1974 to 1976.
Janssen passed away on February 14, 1980, at a relatively very young age. He was well liked and admired in his profession, and always a fan favorite. We pay tribute to him today with great thanks and admiration. Also, his co-star on the series, Barry Morse, is well remembered here today as well. Morse was integral to the success of the series. He also enjoyed a wonderful career on television (including Space: 1999), and passed away relatively recently, on February 2, 2008 at the age of 89.
This video clip is presented here on RUclips for the entertainment and informational value of the viewer, and no copyright infringement is intended. The clip includes many of the fine actors and actresses who appeared on the show including some of our favorites here at Television Vanguard: Pat Crowley, Angie Dickinson, Betty Garrett and Telly Savalas (what a terrific name and actor!)

It was great but noone except for people who remember it accept it as fact. The young people of todays awful world don,t even want to know about or care about it or even watch it. What are they afraid of that it might be something good ? Doesn,t that matter anymore ??? It should!!

Barry Morse was a superb actor, how he got that down - the hard-nosed cop, when in real life he was a soft-spoken, rather unassuming British chap.

I was ripped- off ten years ago over that, I had no idea it wouldn't be the original soundtrack as it originally existed, when they copied those.

    • @TelevisionVanguard
      @TelevisionVanguard  2 года назад

Frank - thank you for watching. You are correct... often times, when people purchase the DVD package of a particular series, they find that the original soundtrack used in the series was not reproduced in the DVD package, and quite often is replaced with instrumental music. This is because of the copyright issues involving the music used on the soundtrack. Often, the produces of a series would gain access to using the music (and would financially compensate the songwriters/copyright holders) by signing a single-use only agreement. Hence, the agreement would be valid for broadcast television rights on the series only, and transfering the series to any other medium other than broadcast (or perhaps cable) television would not be approved.
A terrific example of this music copyright issue is the TV series The Wonder Years. For years, the producers of the series struggled to get that series onto a DVD package. due to the amount of music used in the soundtrack.
On our Television Vanguard channel, we run into that issue often; and hence, quite a bit of really nice content (Northern Exposure has been one we've tried to remedy for years, and cannot regarding the use of 'Natural Woman'' in a clip with Janine Turner that we're very found of. The DVD version uses an entirely different music score on that scene and it just isn't the same or as impactful.
Thank you for your comment. - Television Vanguard staff

The show had it all, great writing, acting, locations and guest stars. Susan Oliver, Ivan Dixon, Robert Duvall, Angie Dickinson and Kurt Russell to name just a few.

Thank you for watching and your question. The Fugitive is available on DVD set. However, we're not certain about what streaming options via Internet (or networks) may be available for the series. We know that currently, there are no reruns of the series on cable TV channels (ie. MeTV, Cozi, Start, TVLand, WGN, Decades TV, Antenna TV, GetTV, FeTV, etc.) If we do find a source, we will let you (and others) know via this thread. Thank you again for watching. - Television Vanguard staff

@@TelevisionVanguard Through recording reruns on TV, I found when I bought the DVDs some years later, that they changed the soundtrack,
I feel like I was ripped off.
Definitely if I buy them again, I want to make goddamn sure the soundtrack hasn't been altered.
Why would they do that? aren't they just dubbing from the originals?
