David Janssen always managed to charm his audience. Something about that self-effacing grin? He really seemed to enjoy THE FUGITIVE jokes. People who were not around in that time can scarcely imagine just how popular this show was. Even school systems were forced to refrain from scheduling PTA meetings and other events on Tuesday nights...because we had to keep track of Richard Kimble!
Its not too surpising how great and I do mean great Jannsen was as a straight man in a comedy team. He was sort of that in Harry O, laconic, head down, setting up his clients and Zerbe or Darrow for the big lines. But he is terrific here, one of the best hosts ever. He would have made an interesting fill in as host for some of the evening talk shows.
It's so unusual, and refreshing, to see David Janssen laughing. The Fugitive, and Harry O were certainly not comedies. In fact, I don't recall him ever appearing in a comedic role. It's kind of like Robert Stack, before he was in "Airplane." RIP David, and Robert.
Check out the movie "Cult of the Cobra" on You-Tube. The 4 doomed servicemen in the film are David Janssen, Marshall Thompson, Jack Kelly, and Richard Long!
Janssen certainly did not display his comedic talents that frequency given the roles he played, but when he had opportunities to do so, such as in My Six Loves and to a mild extent in Harry O, he showed great ability. Behind the scenes he was always cracking Jimmy Durante impressions; the late Suzanne Pleshette was particularly close to him and they would exchange barbs that had film crews laughing.
he came into his own with Harry O until then he was in a fairly tight straight jacket Dean Martin and he would have made great dinner companions both had some of the best off the cuff humor of any and I mean surpassing Robin Williams and Jonathon Winters simply because they was more reality to their mumbling sorely sorely missed senor Jannsen Harry O is still easily the high water mark of TV detectives nobody close leave Harry O out of the list and it proves you just dont know TV
The wonderful handsome David Janssen, the best actor of his generation. Gone too soon. Bless you David, RIP.
He was my favorite actor....
I love this skit. David cracks up just like Harvey when working with Tim.
David Janssen - the best !!!

Tim Conway was an underrated improv performer.
4:08 Conway's great little digs at Janssen.

He was handsome, too. Sad that he died so young.
