    For the benefit of anyone who might be viewing this in 2022 - there is one piece of info in the video that I believe has changed since it was released. Around 6:20 Paul states that, with the dynamic bids up & down, you don't have any control over how high Amazon can go with the bid. He says you could bid $0.20 and wake to find that they've bid $1 on your behalf. The dynamic "up" bid is now limited to 100% increase (double your set bid). In other words, if you bid $0.20, the most Amazon will charge you is $0.40.
    Paul, thanks so much for breaking this down. Ads have been one of the most difficult parts of KDP for me so hearing from someone who's used them successfully is really helpful.

    Thank you so much for these great videos! I love the way you explain everything! I realized how many mistakes I’ve made, so I think I’ll pause my ads now and wait as you suggested for 3 months. And then maybe will start with manual targeting instead of auto. Will collect keywords meanwhile. One of my auto ads went crazy with thousands of impressions, 62 clicks and only 1 sale. I looked at that mess, paused it and went to watch your videos 😂 now I’ll go and pause the rest of them 🙈

I had to switch accounts in the ad manager when I launched this because when I tried it the way you showed amazon defaulted to my marketplace account and not my kdp account. It took me a few minutes to figure it out, but once I switched I could follow your directions. In other words, when I clicked on the book I wanted to run it did not show up in the ad to promote box. I had to go to the top of the page and switch accounts and then search for the book I wanted to promote. (sorry if that was confusing) But thanks so much because your directions were great. Joanne

When you say you normally wait three months before running an ad with automatic targetting, I get that Amazon would need time to accumulate data beforehand (I assume for the keywords they would apply), but if you are running an ad with manual targetting would you still wait?

    So , for how long do you run the ads for timewise, is it when its had for ex 10 clicks but no sales as you say then you shut off the add. BUt those 10 clicks can be in a day right? So there is not a time limit to let it run for weeks or a month. Hope that made sense

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  2 года назад +1

      I normally try and aim for 10 clicks and try to be disciplined about it as I often let them run longer 'just to see'! It's usually no the whole ad that I switch off but the individual keywords or, if it's an auto ad, I will put that keyword in the negative targeting list.

      You're bid amount is probably too low. If you;re bid amount is too low your ad won't get shown on the front pages.

    Thanks for thinking about how to make a campaign
    So I just launched a campaign using a book instead of keywords. after 5 days
    the CTR is 1.87
    the cliks 8
    and sales 1
    spend $ 2.87 ($ 3 per day)
    ACOS: 42
    What should I do? Thank you

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  4 года назад

      Impossible for me to advise off the little information you have given me. But, it sounds like if your ACOS is 42 after 8 clicks and 1 conversion the ad spend per click is too high.

    Great vid. Is there a particular day of the week that works best for starting a simple campaign? Like are weekends better than weekdays? Also does Amazon just take the money from your current royalties to cover the cost of the ad campaign? Thanks very much.

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  3 года назад +2

      No best day to start. It take time for a campaign to get traction. The money comes from credit card details you supply to Amazon.

      You maybe need to spend more time researching the best keywords, descriptions and titles. It helps to do some social media promotions (free) too, to encourage people to look and hopefully buy. I’ve been at it for four months and am making sales, but slowly. It is a long term business and a numbers game. I’m sure Paul will agree :-)

      Run it as long as it’s profitable and/or you get a high organic ranking without the ads running. Stop if it’s non profitable.

    So, new KDPer.. three days into three separate ad campaigns, three different niches, 5 books each. So far, over 8000 impressions and almost $8 spent, no sales showing. One ad group is garnering almost 80-90% of the clicks. Should I pause the others and concentrate on the one getting the most clicks or stick it out a bit more as is?

    • @paulmarles
      @paulmarles  3 года назад +1

      3 days is very early to get any meaningful information. You need to look at the keywords, analyse which ones are working and are relevant. Put keywords and products that aren’t relevant into the negative targeting section. 8000 impressions at 1% click through rate is 80 clicks. At 10% conversion thats 8 book sales. You’re not far off that. Monitor your ACOS for underperforming ads.

    • @DavidGridley
      @DavidGridley 3 года назад

      @@paulmarles Thanks much! I made one sale with a 13% ACOS but that was over shadowed by all the other clicks that didn't result in sales so no profit. I'll take a closer look at what I'm doing!

    Hi, thanks for this information. I have a doubt. Where I can see the royalties of Ads? I don't know if those royalties appear on the amazon KDP homepage (in the reports)... or those royalties are only for my organic profits? In that case, if they are different royalties, where can I see each one?
    I would be very grateful for your answer
