    🔥🔥🔥Craig this video needs to be at the top of search for anything regarding KDP!! This is such an eye opening refresher compared to the "make money with KDP" misleading content that so many people are sharing! Thank you so much for taking the time to compose these videos!! The information you share is always honest, ethical, and much needed! Thank you for going against the grain and sharing information that no one really wants to share. I'm saving this one to watch again and again! You have truly changed and reshaped my idea of what a KDP business should be!!

    Thanks for the video Craig. Based on this video I come to a very fair conclusion that Amazon should change the search result by removing the ranking of any books. By ranking books; that will show the high-ranking books on the first page, other books that are low in ranking will be left out in the cold collecting dust - it is really UNFAIR for other authors or other books WHEN only those high-ranking books will get the sales. What's wrong with the other books? well, there's nothing wrong with the other books, but there is very wrong for Amazon to display only the high ranking books. The customer should be able to experience buying other books not the books suggested by amazon search result. The should just have a system that randomly displays books based on categories or sub-categories - not displaying results picked based on the algorithms of the bok. The algorithm-based to displays books used by Amazon should be replaced by a random display of books so that i will fair for other writers or for other books. It sucks that only one book will get sales after sales mainly because of Amazon - TOTALLY UNFAIR.

    • @CraigBabin
      @CraigBabin  Год назад +1

      At the end of the day Amazon is in the business of selling books, and which ever book is in most demand will be the one that they prioritize in search. If they prioritized randomly and customers were forced to cycle through hundreds of lower quality books that they didn't want, then people would stop using the platform and start buying from brick and mortar stores again.
      I agree that there are a lot of great books that get lost in the shuffle, but with so much competition, comes a lot of low quality crap as well. It wasn't always like this. Before self publishing was a thing, all books got a fair shot at promotion. And that's because publishing houses only took on the authors that were creating quality books, which weeded out the bad stuff before it even got to book stores. For that reason there are always going to be pros and cons to self publishing.
      All you can do is create the best books you can, and then do everything in your power to drive traffic to them. Unfortunately that's the game and those are the rules.

      Most successful businesses have multiple income streams. As you're finding out, the hard part is trying to figure out how to make them all work together. Whatever income streams you do decide to create, try to make them all valuable to the same target audience.

Recently discovered your channel and looking forward to for once, I hope, discovering the whole story.

      Craig - Any thoughts on how to generate reviews from cold; like no website, no list with KDP strict rules in mind

    • @CraigBabin
      @CraigBabin  Год назад

      @@geoffatavoncliffe221 It depends on the type of book you're creating. If you're creating something like a coloring book for kids (or for adults), there are plenty of RUclips channels devoted to coloring, so you could always contact a few of those channels and ask them if you could send them a free copy of your book to get some feedback. That could lead to them using your book in one of their videos. If their viewers then go on to buy your book, that type of customer is far more likely to leave a review.
      Most books that are getting 1000's of reviews are coming from repeat authors. So in other words, their first book was successful and was well received, and got a few reviews. Then when their subsequent books come out, those same customers purchase them as well and their brand begins to develop a following. And once you have a loyal following, reviews are pretty much guaranteed on every future book.

    Craig first off big fan of yours I've spent hours and hours watching your videos. I have started my KDP journey now, but I have a question what program is there to research Neches on amazon?

    • @CraigBabin
      @CraigBabin  5 месяцев назад +1

      I personally use Book Bolt to do my research, and I discuss how to use it in this video here: ruclips.net/video/eF-Q77UQFL8/видео.html
      But I'm probably not the best person to give you that advice, because my end goal with KDP is to create children's picture story books (not so much low or medium content books), so I don't really care about popular niches. I'm just going to create books that contain the stories that I want to tell. Just because Unicorns may be hot this month, doesn't mean that I'm going to go out and write/illustrate a story book about Unicorns.
      But if I want to research a particular topic to see if it's selling on Amazon, or whether or not there's a market for it, I do that in Book Bolt.

    • @Darkmasqueradeshorts
      @Darkmasqueradeshorts 5 месяцев назад

      ok thank you I've watched that one to lol just didn't know if there was a different one.

    • @CraigBabin
      @CraigBabin  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@DarkmasqueradeshortsSorry, no there isn't.
      To be honest, I haven't come across any software that just gives you the most popular niches for any particular book category. With most of the programs that I've seen, you have to search a particular niche to see if it's doing well within that books category (if that makes sense). Which makes it difficult, especially if you don't know what niches to search for. lol
      They need to create a software program that allows you to say "Show me the top 10 books, of each of the top 10 niches in children's word search books". ChatGPT can give you some ideas, but not real time data.

  • @woofworld75

    I don’t think it matters if your book is in the first page on amazon because people always like to look through several pages before purchasing because they want to see if there is something better that they like. I personally always scroll down and continue to the second and even third page to see if I find the cheapest best item that I’m looking for. I NEVER purchase the first item I see.

    Hi Craig. Another very useful video. I just started KDP at the end of January and I'm up to 10 books in a particular puzzle niche, and up to 64 sales. Most of these are via ads, but many of them are organic. My concern here though is out of all these sales, I don't have a single review on any book, positive or negative. Do you have any insight into why this may be, and if there is any effective way I can get my customers to leave a review? I already have a welcome page at the beginning of my books requesting a review, but so far, goose eggs. Thanks.

    • @CraigBabin
      @CraigBabin  Год назад +3

      It's a law of averages. Most books get 1 review per every 100 sales. That should give you some insight into just how many books have been sold by all of those listings that have 1000's of reviews.
      That's why I recommend the 3rd method using the second option in this video for best results. Building a loyal fan base around what you do, is the best way to get reviews.

    I think you are very genuinr and down to earth. Semi related question.. I've seen videos on people making passive income via YT shorts.. what's your opinion on that? If you've done so, can you make a video on that? Lol

    • @CraigBabin
      @CraigBabin  Год назад

      I'll possibly do a video on shorts sometime in the future, but I myself have stopped creating them. 80% of my audience resides in the age group between 35 - 65 years old. 80% of the people who watch shorts are under the age of 25. Advertisers don't want to spend money promoting to younger audiences because they don't have the disposable income that the older generations do.
      So when I was uploading short videos, my RPM's (the $$$ amount I'm paid per 1000 views) dropped quite a bit. After I deleted them, my RPM's rose back up significantly. Just having that younger audience from my short videos, mixed in with the older crowd from my long form content, was enough to alter my viewer demographics to the point where advertisers weren't interested in buying ads on my channel. So depending on your target audience, shorts can be useful, but they're not good for my channel.
      Hopefully that makes sense Kat.

    Craig, I have a question about two of my books that are live right now. They each have completely different content and different covers from one another, but they have the same title and similar subtitles, with the difference of each being that one book has one puzzle per page and the other has two puzzles per page, and one has 150 puzzles and one has 200. That difference is reflected in the subtitle of each book, so they are not exact duplicates. Would that be a problem for the terms of service of KDP? I don't want to get my account terminated, and I'm afraid if I ask KDP for clarification they may terminate my account. What do you think?

    • @CraigBabin

      As long as the books' contents are different (different puzzles), and the books' covers are different in appearance, you should be fine. Many puzzle books have similar titles. There are only so many names you can give to a Word Search Puzzle book.

Somebody should create an app that monitors your catalog 24/7 for "potential troublesome content" that may catch the ire of KDP so you can proactively do something about it before you get the dreaded termination email.
