JC said in the middle "how will they live up to this arc with the other villains" They don't. Still a great game, but yeah, Kamoshida is by far the worst
@@hundvd_7 Well depends - Madarame was doomed to fail as it was right after this one but it was not bad overall had it's moments. Kaneshiro kinda sucked but had the coolest awakening for me after Joker. Futaba's idea was neet how the end was so close yet you had to do so many things to open the doors and I liked her arc. Okumura's was the worst hands down. Sae had the coolest palace of them all. Shido for me is top tier and my personal favorite arc overall. Mementos well at that point it was somewhat annoying if you have an end game persona like Lucifer. However the DLC arc was for me even better than Kamoshida.
One of the things I really like about P5 is the fact that everyone's Phantom Thief costume is based on their idea of a rebel. Joker is the archetypal phantom thief, Ryuji is a pirate, Ann is a literal cat burglar (in the vein of Catwoman), Morgana's is Zoro, and so on.

@@ericleavitt9281also a late answer but I recommend playing persona 4 if your playing with gamepass on xbox as it allows you to see some connections that you might not see otherwise
One of the things that makes Persona 5 so great is it's villains. They aren't demons, or aliens, or monsters, or anything like that, they're all very REAL people who we've all either met in real life or seen on the news. THAT alone makes them so much more sinister than most other villains you'd go against in a video game.
Honestly, there are a LOT of monsters, demons and aliens as villains, that are bad, but come CLOSE to how vile Kamoshida is. Honestly, he might be one of the worst villains imo.
I think the villains are caricatures and i never take them seriously nor do i think real life people are like that because they are not. But expecting a Japanese developer to make a believable villain is the same as expecting an anime artist to draw small eyes, it just wont happen (excluding soulsborne games where villains are mythological beasts and demigods)
@@spicesmuggler2452 tell you're a sheltered murican completely ignorant to the rest of the world withouth telling me so. Hell, your comment just proved the game's point by denying the existence of bad people like kamoshida, turning a blind eye, specially considering people like kamoshida are the most common kind of "evil people" to find in the real world.
1:32:11 one detail I like, when the Palace collapses so too does the stability of the metaverse there. The very same force that enables Morgana to transform from being a normal cat, is also what allowed Ryuji’s leg to not give him any issue till this point. That’s why he grimaced when he started running during their escape, cuz as reality would soon return to normal, so would his busted up leg…
I wondered why there was so much attention drawn to that. Thanks for pointing that out. Really cool writing here, I get why people love this game now. This video has convinced me to play.
It also showcases that the superhuman ability the characters get to leap and jump around once they get their rebellion forms is a totally real in-story mechanic. The perception that's cast upon them as the Phantom Thieves when they're in the metaverse literally does give them the power to pull off moves that they have no buisiness attempting as untrained teenagers. (It also makes Ryuji's boat run all the more impressive, since the situation means he would have been running entirely under his own power rather than with the metaverse's supernatural assistance!)
56:24 I can’t help but appreciate the sadistic evil genius of Atlus. You have been STARVING for a kind word this whole game where teachers, guardians and classmates all look down on you for doing the right thing. And finally Suzui here gives you that kindness. This is a trap. They want you to be attached to her. They want you to feel bad when bad things happen to her.
There's something that i love about Ryuji's character, and something that's more background than anything, is that originally his hair was black like everyone else, but he went to the same school that Ann had been in and they became friends. When people started teasing her for her looks specifically her hair because she's a foreigner that's when Ryuji bleached his hair as a form of solidarity and standing up for his friend, it was to show his support of her...even though it got him into trouble he still hasn't changed it back because he's still silently standing by his friend even though they don't hang out and such anymore after getting into high-school....or well didn't hang out much before joining into the group with Joker and Morgana.
I mean the entire dynamic between Ann and Ryuji screams that they really should end up together. On my first run I practically romanced everyone, except for Ann (and a few others), because it felt like that'd be a Ryuji thing. Dude is clearly meant for her. Couldn't bring myself to steal his girl.
Found your channel because I'm a big Persona fan. So far, the best play through I've seen: tightly edited, you pay attention to the game more than you cut up with chat and miss stuff, cut neatly into chapters, excited to engage and play. Play the rest of the game and I'll be there for it, good stuff so far. Keep it up.
Hi! I found this because I JUST picked up Persona 5 Royal after having on the backlog for ages. Do you have any advice for a new player going in? I’m pretty familiar with RPGs/jrpgs but not with Persona whatsoever. Was having a hard time finding out any helpful information without spoilers. Is there any thing you’d tell a new player to help them from day 1? Thanks so much! I always like to ask people you can tell are clearly passionate about the game since they’re the ones who will actually help and don’t want to ruin the story for you. Thanks again!
@@SwedePotato314 Sure thing! Persona 5 is all about managing time day to day so you can max out your social links (friendships) with both your teammates and other people. Once a new friendship pops up, it would behoove you to try and max it out as soon as possible, as new ones will be coming along soon enough. The only exceptions to this are rank 9 for the gals: this is also where you get a chance to date them, so it would be best to figure out who you'll date ahead of time (if you care) so you can go ahead and knock out the full friendship for everyone else. Some social links are only available for a limited time so make sure you prioritize those (the timeline isn't especially harsh and they usually warn you, but don't neglect them). If you have to ignore someone in order to prioritize someone else, Ignore Ohya the reporter. Her bonuses suck. As you progress through the game, you'll get the option to rent/buy books, DVD's and games, and these raise your social stats which are essentially barriers to hanging out with people. Always have one of each on you if you can, preferably one that affects a stat you need to interact with someone (Guts and knowledge are two of the harder stats to raise, so focus on them first. Proficiency is pretty easily raised just through making lockpicks and naturally hanging out with other people). Books that help you do things quicker (speed reading, cinema appreciation, cheat guide) are super valuble. Use them as soon as you can. Guides that give you tips on locations, fishing, and batting are largely useless. You'll visit everywhere eventually, Batting raises profeciency which maxes out easily, and you straight up just don't have time for fishing. If you have absolutely nothing else to do, try making curry or coffee. If you don't have time to do laundry to do something with the "sooty clothes" you get, they can be sold to a special store for good money later on, so don't sweat it, and you also eventually get access to someone that can help you with laundry. Bringing a teammate to play darts and letting them finish the game powers up their baton pass ability massively, and you can do it with two people a night. Save before you do it, and if your second partner (who is random) is someone who's already been powered up, load your save and try again. Actual combat is a breeze if you listen to Morgana in the beginning. Targeting weaknesses downs enemies. All enemies downed lets you do an All Out Attack, which generally finishes things, or after you down an enemy you can pass your turn off to a teammate through a Baton Pass which powers them up. Keeping a Baton Pass chain going this way can be devastating. Each Palace you go through will generally have a handful of enemies, and they'll generally be vulnerable to one or two elements (that you can generally get the gist of after a couple of fights). Make sure you have an appropriate Persona to take advantage of that damage type. It's standard JRPG stuff, just make sure you listen to the Twins in the Velvet room when they tell you about how to fuse/upgrade Personas. Most people choose to get Palace infiltration out of the way as soon as they can. There's no real reason to do this other than to stop your teammates from bugging you and waiting to unlock bonuses for certain people, but make sure you keep an eye on your days remaining and leave yourself a buffer. Sorry if this was too long or confusing! Good luck, and have fun! I'm envious you get to experience it for the first time! (Also, if after you finish you want more time with the gang, Persona 5 Strikers is actually extremely good and canon to the story).
@@SwedePotato314 - Be mindful bout battling and scheduling your status (first) and social links (second) - Typical Jrpg, explore the shit out of everything - Enjoy the story and dont overthink - Lastly, dont be scared of spending money
@@SwedePotato314whatever you do, DO **NOT** FORGET TO MAX SCHOOL COUNCILLOR TAKUTO MARUKI’S CONFIDANT, HE IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL AND I CANNOT SAY WHY BECAUSE [[MASSIVE SPOILERS]]. yeah. aside from that, after you finish the second palace you will unlock the kichijoji district. you can increase your party members’ baton pass damage here, give them skills they shouldn’t be able to have, and much more. and last but not least, take it easy. don’t stress out about maxing confidants (UNLESS ITS MARUKI) or social stats or whatever, take it at your own pace and you’ll be fine. it’s one hell of an experience.
@@SwedePotato314 The number one thing I’d say is: Time is everything in a Persona game. You have deadlines and limited amounts of time to get everything done through the entirety of the game, so you need to be efficient with your schedule! Outside of battle, your biggest priorities are raising your social stats and raising your Confidant levels. Specifically, you need to raise your social stats to raise your Confidant levels, which then earn you gameplay bonuses and of course, more story! There are a number of little things you can do weekly to gain a couple extra points in social stats without spending extra time, like watering your plant in your room or getting a drink in Shibuya Station. I’d look up “spoiler free Persona 5 Royal social stat guide” to give you some good guidance on what social stat-boosting activities to go for, since not all activities are as effective at raising your stats as others. I would prioritize the Confidants of your party members, since aside from just being good there are some character-important scenes at the very end of the game you can miss out on if you don’t max them all. Aside from that, there are a couple social links that you’ll want to prioritize as you unlock them: - Justice, Faith and Councillor are required to unlock the game’s third semester: a major story development, additional dungeon and the true ending track of the story. You don’t need to raise these all the way to get onto the true ending path-you’ll only need to get Justice to 8, Councillor to 9 and Faith to 5 by mid-November. The Temperance and Fortune confidants aren’t major story characters, but they’re extremely useful for saving precious time in the real world, so I would also recommend prioritizing them once you unlock them. As you progress through its ranks, Temperance gives you additional intervals of time during the day to do time-consuming activities and unlocks the ability to do things at night after coming back from the Metaverse, when you’re usually too tired to do anything. The Fortune confidant has an upfront cost of ¥100,000, but it’s well worth the payment as Fortune is incredibly useful for bumping up Confidants that aren’t quite ready to be leveled up yet. Fortune can give your Confidants a small additional boost without needing to spend time. Many Confidants have “gates” you’ll need to pass before you can rank them up, such as a social stat check or a Mementos request. You’ll accumulate Mementos requests every so often, which you’ll need to use a day to go to the Metaverse to clear. I’d recommend letting a few stack up before you go to Mementos periodically, since you can clear all the requests you have at a given time in one go. In my playthroughs I’ve usually gone once (more rarely, twice) per major dungeon. Also, make sure to get all the stamps available every time you go to Mementos throughout the game. Getting all of them unlocks a fantastic bonus boss at the end of the game. Happy thieving!
Easily my favorite game. You're gonna love it. The 3 rules of P5R: 1. Always be a rebel. 2. Use your time wisely 3. Snitches. Get. Stitches. Enjoy, man.
Always be rebel means if you don't, you'll be arrested. Use your time wisely means you can get abilities if you befriend someone, Maxing out Party members get you their second persona, Maxing Best Teacher/Maid Kawakami means getting more time, Maxing Maruki unlocks the Royal part of the game, no you DO NOT HAVE to Max Akechi to get the Royal part, only Maruki. Snitches get Stitches means the first bad ending of P5, you betray your teammates and friends, you die, you do NOT betray your teammates, you live.

To explain JC, "conveyor belt sushi" is a sushi restaurant that serves sushi on track. They are cheap sushi that gets carried to your seat on a conveyor belt. Because of its low price it's quite popular in Japan and they have stores across America as well. Look up to see if there's a Kura Sushi near where you live.

The thing about all the big baddies in this game is they are partially based on real people. Like there was a medal winning japanese PE teacher who did very similar things IRL.

Bro playing some PEAK!!! I just finished my first play through of Persona5R the other day (after 113 hours lmao) and started new game + immediately the next day. So once you get hooked you get HOOKED.
I played P5R as my first Persona game exactly a year ago in Februrary. Gosh it took me 1 month to finish, but became one of my TOP3 games I ever played. After all this time watching some scenes, like awakening sequences, still gives me goosebumps. I honestly think soundtrack makes half of the job here. Characters are all fleshed out and as you progress it is so easy to bond with them. But damn, that soundtrack is still playing in my house every day, so many sick tracks. Persona series do a phenomenal job considering these are video games. And well, what made me love this game soo much were emotions that game gives you. Glorious victories, your colleagues problems and moments that are like ultra sad, but also bad ass moments for your team. So big, but totally worth it, rollercoaster. I won't count how many times I shed a tear lol And when you think you've seen the saddest part of the game, it will continue to surprise you until the final arc which was devastating. Kasumi gets a lot of hate from fans, but she was proobably one my fave characters, clearly made out to fit Joker the best by the writing team lol My only complaint game-wide is that she appears as a playable character much later in the game than she should, but still loved her confidant storyline
Always glad to see people experiencing this game for the first time. Such an important game and amazing story. And yep, I think Ryuji's character arc is so well-written and emotional... was not expecting it.

JC, about ur question at the end…. Just wait bro, the later game has some insane plot twists. Ur jaw is gonna be completely dropped at one scene. Its insane (Btw, if you think Persona 5 is dark… you’re gonna be freaked out if you play Persona 3)
I've been keeping up on your P5 videos because they are legitimately some of the best P5 playthroughs out there, and it's because you are legitimately open to the game, without being a veteren of the series. It clearly goes into unfamiliar territory gaming-wise for you, but you are so open minded about it and you let all the good moments hit and it lets returning players reexperience the game with you while also giving new viewers a great point of reference to experience it for the first time. I have never actually finished P5 (I've made it about 1/3rd through twice on different platforms) and I'm very excited to experience the game via your playthrough! The primary way I experienced P4 was through the Giantbomb Endurance Run and the fact that I have anlther creator to experience P5 with is so awesome. That’s why he grimaced when he started running during their escape, cuz as reality would soon return to normal, so would his busted up leg…
I have done 3 full playthroughs of this game and it has never occurred to me
Im starting on a fifth (only because I have no idea what’s going on with my new game plus in Royal), and I never noticed that
Captain Kidd also has a bandage on the same leg Ryuji broke
When he came back with an Akechi mask I literally screamed 😂
LITERALLY MY THOUGHTS

Don't make me vomit. Never call a plague doctor mask that again. I refuse to let their awesomeness be tainted by that disgusting piece of trash.

"You've landed on my trap card!"
*Throws your blorbo to the ground from 4 stories up*
AND THEN SHE DIED AND I CRIED.
@@giganticmoon she doesn’t die though?
I always saw the relationship between Ann and Ryuji as siblings. They bicker, but when things are serious they don’t leave the other behind in any way
I mean the entire dynamic between Ann and Ryuji screams that they really should end up together.

@@SwedePotato314
- Be mindful bout battling and scheduling your status (first) and social links (second)
- Typical Jrpg, explore the shit out of everything
- Enjoy the story and dont overthink
- Lastly, dont be scared of spending money
Aside from that, there are a couple social links that you’ll want to prioritize as you unlock them:
- Justice, Faith and Councillor are required to unlock the game’s third semester: a major story development, additional dungeon and the true ending track of the story.
The 3 rules of P5R:
1. Always be a rebel.
2. Use your time wisely
3. Snitches. Get. Stitches.

Wasn't there a Drake and Josh episode where they worked at one of those and they just started throwing sushi up at the sealing and trying to eat it so they wouldn't miss any?

The thing about all the big baddies in this game is they are partially based on real people. Like there was a medal winning japanese PE teacher who did very similar things IRL.

Bro playing some PEAK!!! I just finished my first play through of Persona5R the other day (after 113 hours lmao) and started new game + immediately the next day. So once you get hooked you get HOOKED.
DANG that's actually insane
I won't count how many times I shed a tear lol
And when you think you've seen the saddest part of the game, it will continue to surprise you until the final arc which was devastating.

I game share with my brother so I looked at his account for something to play and saw persona. I remember hearing it was a good game but knew nothing about it. I did not expect to enjoy this game nearly half as much as I did,
An amazing series. I hope you try P3 and P4 as well!
Surely my favorite streamer JCbackfire will finish this game before final fantasy 16 releases
Surely it won't take over my life
Reliving these streams have been a blast! Can’t wait for tonight!
YEEEE :D
I love when people discover this masterpiece for the first time! Can't wait for next videos! Keep it up!
Sad fact when sojiro picks up Joker after school on the first day, they listen to the radio then he tells him there was an accident that was very sad and a 15-year-old girl passed away that was Kasumi he was talking about
Nah that line was in the original version as well, before Kasumi was added in Royal. People say it was Kasumi but that's just a coincidence
I always love to see more people discover this master piece. 🙌🏽
Fantastic stream edit. One of my favorite games of all time and wasted no time getting into the meat of this insane batshit long-ass JRPG, such a fun watch you earned a sub 🎉
Currently replaying Persona4 Golden and got recommended this on my page. So happy I stumbled across this. Im hoping the next videos are "Forcing my viewers to watch me play Persona" lmao
26:35 There was a kid at my high school that would actually show up to school in like full armor with chainmail and everything. Made me forget that isn't normal 😅
