That's the way that Tokyo is designed! In America everything is designed for cars, but here everything is designed for people before cars. Really nice in my opinion!

On my first visit to Japan I unknowingly booked a hotel right where "Theatre square" is in the Yakuza games. I played a bunch of those and the walk from Shinjuku station to the hotel was quite surreal until I realized where I was.
I had the same experience. Last year I booked a hotel and didn't realize it was right across the street from the Yakuza batting cage in Kabukicho. Crazy.
My cousins went to Japan recently and talked about how hard it was to navigate through Shibuya, and because I played Persona 5 Royal, I just thought to myself "Y'know, when I eventually go to Tokyo, I'm going to go through Shibuya with my hands in my pockets and with bad posture, and I'm going to navigate my family through the crowd." I hope it goes well when we eventually go there years down the line.
I remember someone letting me play the start of P5R on their playstation a few years back and it was crazy how easily I could navigate Shibuya even though it had been like 5 or so years since I visited. Now that I think about it the game was probably in development when I visited so it makes sense
I've never been to japan, but I adore when games take real world locations and recreate them. It makes seeing the real world inspirations and thinking "Oh, I know where this is!" really special in the way that a location just being inspired from real life doesn't.
Having traveled a lot in Tokyo for work, the inclusion of some of those areas struck me as spot on when I was first playing Persona 5. Lots of attention to detail and amazing to compare.
Visited Sangenjaya in 2019 and it looks like it has changed. Also visited the Ginza line ticket gate area at Shibuya before it was demolished and the underground shopping mall before it was renovated. The coffee shop LeBlanc is based on is in Ginza btw. Also bought a drink at the juice bar to boost up my stats. Went to alot of other places including the book store in Jimbocho. Kichijoji is a cool district. Lots of places featured in anime like Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, Monogatari Series, Shirobako, etc.
i went to the bookstore in jimbocho without even realizing that i was in the place from the game until i came back home, it was surreal that i didn't notice at the time when i was actually there. (jimbocho is such a good place, the bookstores there have incredible selections)
pretty good comparison video. nice trip, nice view. When I found myself completely in love with the P5R, I also wanted to travel to these places in Tokyo to compare the game and reality with my own eyes just like you. And I think you are little look like Harry Kane, really handsome hahaha🥰
One interesting thing you may have missed in Shibuya crossing in front of Hachiko statue is the missing Green Bus (although you did say that many things changed). The Green Bus that was originally there was moved about 2 years ago to Akita prefecture (Hachiko's hometown) and was replaced by that new tourist helpdesk. I'd love to see you do more "real life" locations, there's so many P5R locations that fans of the game would probably love to see too. It's been years since I was in Tokyo, but its always nostalgic seeing these locations. Great video!
I didn't know that! Thanks for letting me know, that's really cool actually. I'd love to make more videos like this, as well as many other projects in the future, thanks for your feedback!
@@KozyKotatsu Also before Shibuya crossing, there still sits the lottery stand onto the left hand side just like in Persona. I thought that was really cool.

Great video, also it's funny seeing you at Shinjuku as a Yakuza fan, because those landmarks are INSTANTLY recognisable to most, if not all Yakuza fans

I started playing Persona 5 Royale 1-2 weeks ago and I really never had any ambitions to travel, but after a couple hours into the game, I seriously want to visit Japan. The scenery of the game is completely different than the sub-urban area I live in, and the restaurants (like the ramen shop I've visited very early in the game with Ryuji) have a unique feel to them.
