Tara has a way of talking to your soul, where all your thoughts You battle daily disappear and the way you have been operating seems silly. She puts things into perspective. When she talks it’s calming, and at least in my mind makes things make sense. She was meant to do what she does and my heart is completely open. I’m amazed.

I discovered Tara Brach through the Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction online course. Hearing her voice on the RAIN meditation that she contributed to that course was so moving that I sought out more. Simply reading these things is not enough for me...I need to hear it and then begin to incorporate it into my own thoughts and heart. This particular teaching was profoundly "on point" for me. I have much work to do, yet. Peace to everyone here and my deepest appreciation to Tara Brach for sharing herself with the wider community.

Letting it go makes me think that I might confirm I’m right, that I’m not worthy. By keeping the thought of not being worthy I feel there’s a possibility I may be wrong, and one day I find out I was wrong in thinking that way.
Great questions you asked. Now that I’m working on being ok with the unknown I want to let this go and watch the magic that comes with not being afraid of outcomes. Thank you!

As a way of responding to some of the comments further down in this section,I feel compelled to say that I do not feel Tara is setting herself up as some type of Guru.I think the way these talks are delivered is very much based on a kind of person to person level,Like this is my experience and it might well be yours too,we are all human together experiencing these things."I have had self doubts,I have insecurities too" and this is a way that Buddhist practice and western psychology has come up with ways of dealing with and overcoming some of the universal problems of life.If you disagree then that is fine.i personally have not found anything but validation in watching these talks and they help you realise you are not alone in facing all these various insecurities and problems. It takes quite a lot of skill to deliver these talks in this calm captivating way and I am glad she has put them out there.

Thank you for confirming my inquiry and process. It is natural when we deepen awareness to feel meet and release sensations/energy. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:58 🤔 *Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, faced doubt as his last challenge before enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree, representing universal struggles with self-doubt.*
02:51 🌱 *The woman's self-doubt is paralleled with the Buddha's questioning of his capacity for an awakened heart and mind, showing the universality of self-doubt.*
03:44 🔄 *Self-doubt, like the Buddha's uncertainty, often revolves around questions of worthiness, lovability, and the ability to connect with others.*
05:29 🔄 *Our sense of identity plays a crucial role in determining whether we live in self-doubt or move towards freedom.*
07:40 🧠 *When caught in self-doubt, practicing mindful awareness and investigation can weaken the grip of beliefs, fostering a sense of freedom.*
09:29 🤝 *Consensual beliefs about right and wrong guide us individually and societally, influencing our laws and rules.*
12:37 💔 *Our most persistent beliefs often revolve around personal deficiencies, stemming from a primitive sense of identity as a vulnerable and separate self.*
18:32 🔄 *Living exclusively with an identity tied to the egoic self leads to self-doubt; trusting basic goodness requires discovering a larger, more authentic sense of self.*
19:55 🔄 *The false self, seeking external validation, perpetuates a cycle of never feeling "enough," leading to imposter syndrome and a sense of being a fraud.*
22:47 🎭 *Seeking affirmation is temporary and fuels self-doubt, making us Teflon for compliments and Velcro for criticism.*
25:56 ❓ *Reflecting on what could go wrong if we let go of a limiting belief can reveal fears that hinder the process of overcoming self-doubt.*
26:54 🧠 *Beliefs can be rigid and deeply ingrained, shaping our experiences and actions.*
28:13 🤔 *Powerful beliefs, fueled by fear, can lead to extreme behaviors and perceptions.*
30:29 🔄 *Our beliefs are often conditioned by culture and upbringing, shaping our interactions with others.*
30:52 🔄 *Gandhi's perspective: "Your beliefs become your thoughts, words, actions, habits, character, and destiny."*
31:18 ⚖️ *Limiting beliefs on a societal level can lead to war, social injustice, and harm to the environment.*
32:32 🌍 *Hildegarde of Bingen emphasizes the need to take back our own listening and see our own light.*
33:54 🌱 *Illusions persist until investigated; examining and loosening societal fears and beliefs is crucial.*
34:51 🤝 *Interpersonal understanding and deep listening are essential for breaking down beliefs of separation.*
36:18 🌧️ *The RAIN (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Non-Identification) process helps explore and release self-doubt.*
43:20 💡 *"It is real but not true" - understanding that beliefs feel real but may not reflect ultimate truth.*
45:10 🤲 *The phrase "Not my will but my heart's will" can help navigate triggers and challenging beliefs.*
46:35 🌟 *The story of the Buddha highlights the importance of seeking a larger truth beyond self-doubt.*
53:01 🧘‍♂️ *Investigating self-doubt with questions about its impact and imagining life without the belief.*

Imposter syndrome is a sign of sanity--of not buying into a role. All roles are matters of imposture, each is to an extent pretend and play.

    • @jodiebug1
      @jodiebug1 4 года назад

I so agree. I have the controversial opinion that imposter syndrome is caused by being an emotional imposter, and it’s a call to return to being honest with yourself. It persists because we are afraid that if we are honest with ourselves we won’t be able to keep pursuing this role that will make us good enough.

Heard her on the radio briefly and was taken by what she said and how she said it. But strangely after watching some vids, the feeling is more about something I've been noticing lately -- our tendency to sit in rapt attention while some guru or teacher or expert speaks, telling us what we already know, but we don't trust unless someone in authority speaks it. But that person is just like us, they only know their own experience, and yet we take their experience to be gospel or universal truth, because they have a privileged position. And while Tara clearly has much to offer, isn't there a danger in so readily deferring to authority? And theoretically couldn't anyone in the audience get up and speak and have just as much insight? I am distrustful of any hierarchy I guess...

baconlatte i would say it makes sense to equate listening to Tara and taking what she says (or all of it rather) as truth or something with trusting political leaders and such who are actually evil and have bad intentions. the difference is you don't need to believe everything she says, only what really resonates with you.. and she's not one of those bad sorts of leaders as she doesn't have political or legal power over you. it's kind of like psychological 'countertransference' when you think of her in the way you describe. i'm Catholic but I've gotten some interesting feelings out of some of what she's said. it can be a little slow-paced for my liking at times, but these are freely available talks so can't complain.

    • @baconlatte
      @baconlatte 9 лет назад +2

Frater Tenc I'm thinking not of politicians but of spiritual leaders, psychotherapists, life coaches and the like -- those who instruct in how to live. Her message is fine, but something in her energy seems to say "don't question what I'm saying, for it is absolute truth". Could this be partly countertransference? Maybe. I get some of this with Eckhart Tolle, so it's not just her. Anything that seems to invite blind faith troubles me. Not a complaint, just some observations.

+baconlatte the chef offers you a meal, they've prepared it, they share with you the recipe, they even advise you to make it your own, but you like the recipe the chef has prepared. When you attempt to follow the recipe you doubt the chef's expertise, you consult another chef, but you doubt their expertise as well. Finally, you decide to put yourself into the dish and to you it is a masterpiece. You decide to share your version, do you care if anyone doubts your expertise or intentions? Anyone who has only one teacher is in trouble, that's like The Bible having one book and one narrator lol. It sounds like you're concerned others might be lead to idol worship, perhaps you've experienced that or fear that. I grew up Pentecostal/Holiness...I get it lol. Tara is one of many, a part of the whole. Not everyone is called to speak, some are called to listen :-)

I have an aggresive sociopath as a close relative. He doens't have help nor wants it... I want the best for him, but i do have to be very careful what i say to him. Contact is impossible for me. Has been for years. Just to toxic, hurtful and potentially dangerous.

Funny story- I was running security for a Burning Man event, and I took my 16 year old son. After the first couple of days I asked my son "Son, how are you handeling all the nakedness?" My son responded "It's only awkward when you stare?" lololol

self-efficacy based on real achievement is legit. Does it lessen the dread of death and loss? Even then there is doubt, but not always--only when the question arises. Psychopaths don't worry about this stuff about themselves.

Is doubt the same as fear?

Awesome question... I have been doing a lot of reflecting on my self doubt issues which are really extreme... I have found that the self doubt and the fear are very closely linked... like theres a fear of being the True Self, which then creates the effect of the self-doubt talk and thoughts.

So this is the second video, I’ve watched of Tara’s. And I was enjoying what she had to say until she casually referred to a cow as ‘roast beef’ and described the difference between eating a tortured cow or a tortured fish, as examples in a mindfulness story.
Tara, as you well know, we are herbivores. As you also know, animals are tortured horrifically in the meat, dairy and egg industry. And you know that 1 billion of your fellow humans are starving right now on this earth, as 80% of world grain is fed to intentionally bred animals. 80% of modern illness is caused by eating tortured animals.
The mothers who are raped over and over again only to have their babies stolen. The babies that are put in crates and left all alone. Or are sold at auction at three days old and then beaten to death with a hammer so that their stomach lining could be mixed with their stolen mothers milk to make cheese.
How can you sit there, knowing all that and casually refer to the diabolical abuse of other species in such casual way. Not even bringing up how wrong it is as you do that.
The first video I watched of yours might explain it. Meeting your unhealthy habits with compassion.
I thought, as I watched it to try to cope with the habit of smoking, that the danger here could be that applying compassion to eating torture…only enables people.
While mindfulness and compassion should be applied to any evil…If it only makes you continue the habit, and your habit is torturing somebody else, that’s enabling.
And for you to sit there and use those examples of torture, so casually so unconsciously, it’s likely that as you sit there, talking about being Buddha, your stuff in your own face with torture pretty regularly

I love you Tara but the story about the cow being always a cow and now a fish was not a very compassionate story. As a vegan I’m shocked and saddened, a cow and a fish are living sentient beings not for us to torture and eat.
