I just picked up one at the hock shop for 140$ tool only. Snagged two 6 amp flex batteries for 315$. I snagged a 16 bar and chain for 35$ and when it’s all said and done it works great. 500$ all in is not bad at all for what you get. It’s a perfect shtf saw, I can charge it with my solar system on the fly.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. I have no disappointments with mine. It's a real gem for cleaning up windfall on my mountain bike trails. It's quiet and much lighter than a gas chainsaw. I hope that your saw gives you years of service like mine did for me.
I just got done cutting up a 12" thick tree I felled for someone a few weeks ago. I used the DCCS670X1 (DeWalt Brushless 60V 16" chainsaw) and let me just say it was a bad experience...Took 3 full batteries and it felt it really didn't want to cut. I ended up using an american hickory handled hatchet to start and finish the cuts by hand. Maybe another brand of bar and chain would give it the kick it needs. Glad it worked for you!
Thanks for watching Tool Technical. I have never used the DeWalt 60 volt before. This 20 volt really does the job for me. The trick is just to use the highest amp hour batteries that you can get and don't horse it, and it produces a ton of cuts... I weighed them! 😁
Just remember if you where using 6ah batteries they are only 2ah at 60v. I chucked up a tree using a 9ah and two 6ah batteries. I needed to charge one of the 6ah batteries to finish but it worked great. The biggest thing is to get a sharp chain.
@TOOL_TECHNICAL thanks for watching. I thought that I would be putting the 12-in bar back on, but I like the 16 so much it's been on ever since I made that video. It's about five extra inches of cutting capacity which makes a huge difference and almost no noticeable difference in battery life.
I appreciate the whitty comedy and all of the edits! Your shots are also really nice and the colors are phenomenal! Hope you get the subs you deserve!!!
Thanks for watching and the kind words Area 21. I do put a lot of work into these videos following this dream. It's music to my soul when it gets recognized.
@TwistedOmYoga Thanks for watching! I test a lot of cheaper battery saws, and they work OK for small things, but the Dewalt 20v is my favorite. I haven't tried their bigger saws like the 40v and 60v.
I did the exact same thing to a Black and Decker chainsaw including adding a DEWALT battery adapter. The only difference is I went with a 14 inch bar. I also used 5AH batteries. I got the same result 😊
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. I have a black and decker chainsaw too, but never knew that they made a DeWALT battery adapter for it. That's good to know!
@StellarsJay Thanks for watching Jay. I put an o-ring in mine, but you have to really watch if you do.. . If it's too tight, it can break the fingers that hold the cap in. This happened to me. Replacement caps are available, and if you call Dewalt, they'll send you one for free.
just a fyi for people the gear that drives the chain takes a set size if not right size is used it may work for a bit but run risk of destroying the drive gear
Thanks for watching and the advice Austin. I've been running mine for a pretty long time extensively since this test on all of my trail repairs, and so far it is still running good, not to say it won't break tomorrow. This video was made in May of 2023, so roughly a year and a half.
There's a good chance that that's why. The LongFit gave me two years or so before it quit charging. It wasn't a bad bang for the buck considering that they sell for 90 bucks. That one was sent to me in exchange for the video. Some say that the cheaper Knockoffs can catch fire, but I never had issues.
I'm curious the exact model number of that bar. There's many types of Husq bars. I tried an Oregon 16" bar with the same designated mounting style as their 12" replacement and it wouldn't fit correctly with the chain adjuster. Also the link count on that chain is essential. Not all 16" chains have the same link count.
Thanks for watching Jerome. Sorry about the delay. I went out to the shop to have a look, and the numbers engraved in the bar are 530 04 45-08 There's another number "1901" directly under it. Then it says 3/8" chain, 56 drive links, and. 050" groove in the bar. The Brand's name of the chain I used is Rotary. I purchased it at a local Power Equipment shop. I hope this helps.
With the amount of bar oil the Dewalt throws, it only makes sense to give it a bigger bar, even if you don't need it. Seems like it can handle it without a problem.
Thanks for watching Mr Schitzengigglez. (love the name!) Yes, it certainly doesn't skimp on oil... Even when it's not being used. There's always a puddle under it. It definitely has plenty of power for the larger bar. I've been running this one on it ever since.
When you pour oil from a quart size bottle, the hole on the bottle should be closer to the side that you are holding the bottle. They are designed to pour that way. Give it a try!
Bought the Oregon 16" bar kit with the .043 gauge but the chain is too short to fit on my DCCS620 I moved the tensioner all the way back but the pin won't meet the bar by about 1/8". I know others have done this without issue so I wonder if the tolerances with Dewalt and/or Oregon are different based on batch? I even disassembled the chainsaw to see how the pin adjusts but it is definetely at the far extreme. I also, since I had it apart, sealed the oil tank to stop the leaking. I saw another video that said the weld lines on the plastic container interfere with the seal. His solution was to add some permatex super black or similar so the gaskets can seal the gap. Have any of you ran into this issue?
Thanks for watching Proxybox. Hmm, I had never ran into the issue with the chain being too short. If you go to a regular saw shop, they can probably make you a chain to the custom number of teeth that you need. I bought my chain from a saw shop and not sure if they got the info from the engravings on the bar or just knew. It was an off brand, but has served me well since this video. As for the oil leak, mine leaks pretty bad, but I have not tried the fix that you described, but saw videos about it and some folks have mentioned it in these comments. Sorry that I can't be of more help.
Hi Tom. Of course the original DeWalt batteries are the best. That Longfit brand battery was sent to me and I was a bit disappointed that if you click the link for that battery, it appears that the company must have went out of business. It's a shame, because at the $89 price point, it's been well over a year and I do use that battery almost every time I take that saw into the woods, and it performs remarkably. Maybe not quite as much as the DeWalt 10 amp power, but very good for an $89 battery. I have not purchased any of the other knock off batteries, but if they are as good as that one, they're worth buying if you don't want to Fork out the $230 for the DeWalt which is I think what that 10 amp hour sells for. In this video, I am thinking that I worked that saw so hard using the DeWalt battery that the saw was tripping out on thermal. Some people are speculating that it was the knockoff battery, but after letting the saw set for a half hour to cool, it performed very well.
I'm impressed with that battery chain saw cut it all up nice . Do you think maybe that other battery doesn't really match the Dewalt one ? For sure do the log roller thingy that is pretty slick 👍
Thanks Bill! I think that I will be building a log roller in a future video, lol. As for the battery, it ordinarily does almost equal to the Dewalt battery. Not sure about longevity as far as durability goes. I think that Dewalt may have put a thermal cutout in the electronics so knuckleheads like myself don't burn up the saw! 😂
@@themostlymikeshow seriously that’s your conclusion. With the dewalt battery you had no issues. You use the generic battery and had stalled out, and you think it’s the chainsaw?? There is a reason why those dewalt batteries are so expensive. On the other hand I like your Frankensaw. It’s genius. Stop being cheap and use the proper batteries to get the optimal use of your tool
@@Zeeangelofdeath Thanks for watching and commenting. I suppose that is a possibility that the Knockoff battery could have been the culprit. The saw was running pretty warm though from all of the cutting from the first battery. Now you have me wondering though, what the outcome would have been if I had used the Knockoff first, then the Dewalt 10ah battery. The knockoff 9ah has been in use for over a year now, and I believe that it was worth what they charged for it when that company sent it to me for review. Shortly after I made the review video though, Longfit either changed name or went out of business. I plan to make another of these videos using a fresh two pack of the Dewalt 6ah Batteries I purchased myself on sale recently at Lowe's to see how many cuts both batteries will provide on a fresh charge. Not sure yet if I will get a brand new chain for that test, but it will be coming up.
I am doing research for a purchase of the Dewalt saw you used that happens to be on sale at my Home Depot. That is how I found your channel. I would love to know how you made your pipe log lifter. I have a peavey that rolls the logs but it doesn't lift the log at all. Thanks Luke.
Thanks for watching Luke. Yes, I will be making a video on how to build that log lifter. I built that one many years ago and it seems to work pretty well. Not sure how soon I can get to it because there's a few videos coming before that, but please stay tuned. I hope your DeWalt saw serves you as well as mine did for me. As much as I wish I was sponsored by DeWalt to say that, I am not and I bought the DeWalt saw with my own money. The long fit battery was actually sent to me in exchange for another review video, which is a decent bang for the buck, but I don't think long fit makes them anymore.
I liked your video and decided to try the 16" bar but it doesn't fit. The holes don't line up for the tensioner pin. I have the DCCS620 saw and the 531300436 bar and I had to widen the hole to make it work. I then installed the SP33G 16" chain with the 0.325" pitch , but that doesn't work either. It doesn't follow the gear drive and jams. Looking up a chain by my model, it says 3/8" which is 0.375" pitch.
Thanks for watching and sorry to hear about the bar and chain not working. I have a picture of the numbers on the bar. I am up for suggestions as to how I could get that picture to you that includes all the numbers for the bar and the chain. Thanks for watching Morales. There's a Amazon store link in the description that shows the bar and chain. I checked it and made sure that it was still there. Here's the link : amzn.to/3ODallk
The DeWalt saws can and will, at least in my experience, leak with the cap facing up. I empty my saws after use and hang them cap up; they empty themselves off near all oil. I have most of their saws and every one leaks oil, some worse than others.
Home Depot was just selling the saw for $89 dollars, tool only! Not sure if it’s still happening or not. If the price for it only says you have to put it in the cart to see the price, it’s probably still happening.
... As I clearly described in this video. Yeah, it's a dead pine tree. I believe that it was far worse than cutting a fresh tree with sap in it yet. Some of my reviews are on green wood, and some are in dead dried wood. This video was representative that this saw works with the 16" bar with relative battery life for this task. Thanks for watching.
Anything bigger than 12 inches grab your gas powered chainsaw and stop screwing around. I have a Dewalt pruner great for little stuff, gas for big stuff.
I totally agree. As I mentioned in the video, I only used this saw on that tree to show what it was capable of. The stock so-called 12 inch bar is actually just over ten inches on the Dewalt 20v Chainsaw. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I was looking forward to this BUT..... You didn't show not even ONE cut in real time with real sound. So I have NO idea how it actually performed. Did it struggle, did it take ages, how was it compared to what I get from my gas saw? Don't know because you fast forwarded and played sound over every cut. Sorry matey, would have been good review BUT!
Sorry to disappoint Alex. When I look at my audience retention graph, anything that is done in real time like that causes people to click out of the video or skip through. I will have to post a video in real time making one cut for those that want to see that.
@@themostlymikeshow I agree with the multitude of cuts to show how much work it did, it would be like watching mud dry. But to see maybe the bigger cut in real time would be great.
@alexb6018 I'll try to find one of the clips from my archives and make a one minute short video from it. With the 12-inch bar, in my chainsaw stuff playlist, there should be some video footage with it cutting larger size logs. Many of them have different variations, such as different brands of batteries, different amp hour ratings, Etc. I will try to put at least one real time cut in my videos from now on.
Thanks for watching Freeze. The only way I know to have it not leak is to set it on its side with the cap facing up. I think that every chainsaw that I own leaks oil though.
@@themostlymikeshow there are 2 halves of the plastic oil tank that are molded together. This creates a seam and the 2 halves are not perfectly lined up. This can affect the seal around the oil filler cap and the vent line. If you use RTV on those locations, it will stop the leak. The 2 halves of the chainsaw case must be split to access the chain oil tank and make those repairs. This is a known manufacturing issue that DeWalt should have recalled early models of their electric chainsaws. I will post the video that has step-by-step instructions to make the repair.
I was brought to this video searching how to tighten a chain on a 20v saw. Great job on the video funny and informative. I felt like as soon as you put on the generic battery the saw starting shutting off. I know the indicator bars showed full? What’s you’re opinion on the generic battery’s? 🪫
Thanks for watching and the kind words LCCJ. I ran that saw pretty hard that day, and I believe that the DeWalt saw has a thermal cut out that really doesn't matter how much power is in the battery, but the saw is just protecting itself from the motor getting too hot. That long fit battery seems to be excellent value for the buck, however, I believe it says no longer available on Amazon, and I don't know if any of the other 9 amp hour batteries are reputable that they have on there. If you look on my Channel at the chainsaw stuff playlist, I do a review on that battery. There are also other off-brand battery chainsaws as well as the DeWalt 10 amp hour battery and the torture test with it. I hope this helps.
So who paid this guy to reveiw this? I got mine and ya have to fill the bar oil every 2 minutes of use, batterys constantly over heat it lacks power.... when the batterys run out and you cant finish the job you can go finger yourself because you probably have a p$$y ... when will people make honest reveiws? Oh and they leak bar oil your supposed to take it all apart to fix it voiding the warranty but its been like that for years and i guess its not worth it for dewalt to get some better casting molds ?? As far as a 16 bar goes mine seems to barely have enough power for a 12 bar if that..

Ha ha glad you liked. I really didn't feel the need being that it was relatively short. Figured it would just burn up battery. Thanks for watching!
Nothing Matches A Dewalt Original Battry Due To Cell Quality , Cut Out Is Due To Batt Quality Most times with Lower End Replacement Batteries 🔋...
Thanks for watching Zack. I agree. That Knockoff battery is good for the price, but nothing beats the original Dewalt batteries.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has oil leakage. Stupid design...
Thanks for watching Freeze. The only way I know to have it not leak is to set it on its side with the cap facing up. I think that every chainsaw that I own leaks oil though.
I removed the oil tank and sealed it. No more leaks! It’s a big job though.
@gs1100ed That's interesting. What was the problem in there? I might have to try it on mine.
Nice job! Thank you for the info.
Thanks so much for watching and be kind words Matt. Comments help this video gets shared to a broader audience.
