Fiona has been rescued call it a win. She was rescued by a team of professionals who all work with animals on a daily basis and have the welfare of the animals at the top of their priority lists. She had a wonderful home lined up which you and your supporters are now putting at risk. Intimidating the families and the very young children who live there. Flying Drones over private property and risking scaring and worrying all the other animals that live there including all the sheep that live out in the acres and acres of lush green fields that you are stopping Fiona getting to.
You go on about how no one did anything for 2 yrs but neither did you and when you did you decided that the professionals who had already assessed the situation were wrong about going in by sea and tried that and then used thin nylon rope, no proper climbing equipment, and suggested using a sledge to tie her to to get up the cliffside.
The guys who ultimately rescued Fiona, had all the right equipment, all the correct training and knowledge in climbing and sheep husbandry. They worked with the farmer and the SSPCA and had been planning for a while. They found her a loving home with properly trained people to care for her for the rest of her natural life, because Dalscone NEVER put an animal down except as a last resort when there really is nothing left and no chance of recovery, just recently they have spent thousands of pounds saving another young sheep who would've have been put to sleep by most others, they searched far and wide for a vet that could help and found one, she has now successfully had her operation and is on the way to a full recovery where she can be a sheep again, they work tirelessly for the education of people and the welfare of their animals.
Has your sanctuary been approved by animal welfare or just by yourselves? Stop your ridiculous protests and just let Fiona get to the loving home that has been approved and prepared for her, where she will be loved, cared for, have vets on call, farrier on call, and regular proper treatments and nutrition provided.

You conveniently ignore the fact that literally the only people who knew the sheep was down there were the farmer who owned her (who had known for years that she was there but hadn't bothered to bring her up), and a kayaker who saw her on the beach while paddling by, assumed she had a way to get home, and then was shocked to paddle by a year later and see her still on the beach. THAT is when Fiona's predicament became known to the world. The farmer had two years to rescue her and didn't bother. Then he let this group come in and climb down to see her every day for several days, and only when they thought she was calm enough to be rescued without traumatizing her, did he tell them to take the day off because he had to move some cows on his land, and he rushed in a group to snatch her up and sell her to Dalscone.
Who was it who jumped into action the second it was known that Fiona was unable to leave the beach? One group. And the farmer tricked them. Shame on him.

    • @naomimcewan9744
      @naomimcewan9744 11 месяцев назад +25

@alexandradixon3775 the farmer knew she was down there once he was informed that she was down there, he would've known she was missing and probably assumed she was taken by a fox or had fallen to her death and he also knew there was no way he could rescue her, the sspca knew and they also decided they couldn't rescue her as they thought the only way to get to her was by boat.
Cammy and his team have been working on this rescue since last month and enacted it over the weekend, again what is the issue? She is safe, she is healthy, she is no longer stranded with little hope of being rescued.
She wasn't sold to Dalscone they were asked to take her on as they were chosen as the safest place for her to be, with the best facilities and veterinary care for her. Every animal there has a life long home and those that do have to be moved on go to pet homes or other life long homes.
The farmer made his choice to send her somewhere that was deemed safe by the relevant authorities and all paperwork would have been in place for that rescue, transfer of ownership and transportation of livestock. Cammy and the team had professionals in the animal medical field with them as well as knowledgeable professional farmers and animal welfare workers, they also had all the correct climbing experience and correct climbing equipment along with the winch and harness to ensure Fiona's safety as well as their own.

This post on You Tube has inspired people to descend on the Farm and threaten the people and animals that reside there. There is power in words and actions and I don't think people always realize that. I am appalled by the behavior that this post has generated. I feel so sorry for the Farmers. The Farm is presently closed to the public and will be for five months. The plan was for "The Loneliest Sheep" to be brought there, assessed for her well being and cared for there for the rest of her life. Not exploited, but treated as a member of the family as so so many of the animals that reside there are. Just because they didn't get their way, they had to have a temper tantrum and start dissension. Is that holding the welfare of "The Loneliest Sheep" above their own ego. I think not. Deplorable!

@jonahwhale9047 The UK has one of the finest and longest-established Coastguard services in the world. In fact, a TV documentary series on the work they do has just finished showing. The Coastguard are reported as having said that with access to food, water and not being in any imminent danger or having any obvious health problems, there was no urgency in organising or risking rescue for an otherwise perfectly sound farm animal. I don't know what the SSPCA response was, but they might have had the same approach.

We lived in the NW Highlands of Scotland for 15 years and life for both humans and animals can be tough, especially in the winter. We rescued a "redundant" border collie destined for a bullet who had been kept in a shed for 4 years and a "nobody's cat" when we lived up there. It took much patience to help them live good lives. The cat sort of ruled over the dog at times but on the whole they got on okay with each other. One day our lovely dog died and we were heartbroken. The next day, my husband and I went for our usual walk minus our beloved dog. The cat for the first time in his life followed us wherever we went as if to say, "I'm here for you now!"

There was a nice cosy enclosure for her ready so she could settle in quietly and be introduced to other sheep slowly to make sure she was comfortable with them. Then she had acres of feilds to go to with the rest of the herd. These farmers love their animals. Nothing is hidden they have cameras everywhere that are available to anyone to watch the animals 24/7...and might i add these cameras have saved quite a few of these animals lives when it comes to lambing season. These ppl did not save her. The farmer got ahold of help after multiple agencies said it was to dangerous. A few farmers, a climber, and a hoof trimmer saved her and named her Fiona. She is now safe at a family farm.
Fiona was named because of a famous sheep called Shrek. He was rescued in New Zealand 2004 and featured on the the Bondi Vet show. Shrek’s fleece weighed 27kg/59.5lbs. Shriek is the most famous, but Chris, a Canberran ram found in Canberra, Australia 2005 holds the record of sheared fleece at 41kg/90.3lbs. He likely had only weeks to live due to his wool.
    Other rescued fleece weights:
Shaun, 2014 Merino ram Tasmania 23.5kg/51.8lbs fleece.
Big Ben, 2014 Merino ewe New Zealand 28.9kg/63.7lbs fleece.
Sheila, ewe 2015 Tasmania 21.8kg/50.3lbs fleece.
Ewenice, ewe 2020 found in Victoria, Australia 20kg/44lbs fleece.
Baarack, Merino ram 2021 Victoria, Australia 35kg/77lbs fleece.
Shrekapo, Merino sheep 2022 from New Zealand with 18kg almost 40lbs of fleece.

basically, when you read about a sheep having a "gentle soul", and not seeing a sheep as an animal that has different feelings and reactions that humans. I would trust the people that did rescue Fiona, as they work with sheep and other farm animals every single day. They have to read the emotions of the animal, for REAL, not as they want the animal to feel. Also, what was wrong, all along, was that people were making this rescue into TOO MUCH OF A BIG DEAL. The rescue people knew enough about sheep to think of a much easier and less stressful way to get Fiona out quickly. Leave her wool ON, and let it protect her going UP. TO tie her down to a sledge would cause panic. But putting her inside a basic bag where she had some movement and her wooly coat to protect her... she is actually eating grass when they rescuers paused. The fewer people involved the better, how big was the group of "professionals" going to be? How much noise bringing them all in. How much consultation? Everyone would have their opinion. In this case, these people that know farm animals KNEW fast is best. A SLEDGE? are you crazy? A sheep is not a human being. Any animal in a rescue needs some sense of control (with being able to move legs a bit) and to not see what is going on. Let's strap the sheep to a sledge like we do people rescue. I'm sorry but a lot of people coming to LOOK at the sheep, won't bother the sheep. If the petting zoo does it correctly, they'll see if Fiona is ready to join a flock and if not she can choose her own future. I know this is more anti petting zoo, and also "Wait, someone looked at our plans and felt uncomfortable???" Your anthropomorphize version of Fiona would only endanger her. I bet people would have been "Oh it's going to be all better soon Fiona, we don't mean to hurt you, you will be fine" talking to her during the entire rescue (animal experts can tell you WHY YOUR STRANGE VOICE speaking close to her head would freak her out as she was being pulled up). SIMPLE IS BEST WITH ANIMALS. SHEEP AS CHANGED BY HUMANS INTO FARM ANIMALS ARE VERY SENSITIVE, and Temple Grandin would tell you the quick version with as few people as possible, was the BEST.

@jonahwhale9047 Irrelevant. They know when a sheep is stressed or not stressed, or at risk of injury or not. Cammy is a professional shearer and saw that Fiona was 'wrapped in a mattress' by her heavy fleece, as he described it. These are sheep farmers and shearers who spend their lives with sheep and understand the species inside out. Compare that with these hippy activists. They caused extra stress to Fiona by delaying her arrival at Dalscone. They stressed her new owners by staging an intimidating 'protest' on the property and had to be removed by Police. They are not responsible people. I wouldn't trust them with any animal. I don't know what damage they may have done to Fiona if they'd tried using a sledge. Are any of them experienced with mountain rescues of animals? I doubt it. And I'd be worried about any of them rescuing me. Their whole mode of operation was by rule breaking.

    * The farmer, realising that he had a sheep awol 2 -3 years ago, should’ve definitely asked for outside help before it got to this. He undoubtedly thought it was one of many sheeps, and his little problem would eventually solve itself. (which it normally would)
    * Thankfully for the sheep, a keen-eyed kayaking lady noticed it twice, two years apart. On this second encounter, our mariner quickly called it in.
    * Then! Amazingly, now people cared about the sheep. Even people who enjoyed a bit of sheep with their mint sauce on Sunday.
    * And as if by magic, this marooned hardy beast finally had company, a kind yet ideological group of people descended. They were willing to invest their time, braving the descent down the cliffs that had trapped her. They spoke to her, they fed her, even with something other than grass, they took their time to get to know this lonely soul trapped on the edge of an ever-shrinking British Isles.
*But then the farmer started to get pissed off with all these sheep-whispering out-of-towners interfering with their crazy ideas.
*So he waited and waited and humoured these well-wishers until some fine young men showed up, ropes in hand, to winch the stricken beauty from her cliff face.
*Which they did… AND EVERYONE LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER…
    *or so we’re told.
Our farmer here could have stopped this situation from becoming what it has. Growing up on my grandparent’s farm in Lancashire and witnessing my granddad’s mistreatment and often neglecting his animals as a child, there isn’t any excuse for his lack of concern in the first instance; some farmers, unfortunately, are motivated by profit. They don’t see animals as living beings that feel, and when they get caught out, they let pride get in the way, often ignoring the issue. Farmers are incredibly well-connected in their locality, their resourceful. He could have asked for help long before it got to this.
