Hard choice. The a7C is a great camera for the size it has! BUT you have to trade a lot: - worst Sony ergonomics (least number of buttons and dials for a camera) - worst IBIS (except for the a6500 / a6600) - single card slot, no joystick, class-bottoming tiny, eye-straining EVF So, basically, if you just use the LCD and use touch focus, it's very good, if you want full frame. And shutter is either e-shutter or FCES. No other options. And e-shutter rolling shutter is not great. On the plus side, the 4k30p recording from the a7C is great, autofocus is great, colors are good. It can record for at least 2 hours (or even much more) without overheating. The FX30 trades sensor size for huge practical and convenience upgrades in video - 4k120p, joystick, tally lights, new menu (everything touchscreen), two card slots (actually 4), 10 bit (huge difference in the sky and for color grading / slog shooting), full-size HDMI, and fan for no-worries limitless 4k shooting.
I was saying the same thing because 4 days after my fx30 arrived i was shopping for memory card and I saw an a7siii for 2,100 357 shutter clicks and a 20mm FE 1.8 G lense . I had to get it because it was to good to be true and would’ve regretted it lol
I’ve owned many cameras in the past and had a photo business for many years. Ive owned several Sony and Nikon full frame cameras. The A7C is my favorite camera so far! Started my Sony journey years back with the a6000 and they have come a long way. Easily one of the best ecosystems with every lens you need and any type of job- whether photo or video. Thanks for the video. As a former primary canon user it was such a big adjustment to dive into Sony; However, I’m happy to now do both. My current problem centers around the Fx30 and Fx3. I have never shot regularly with a apsc camera so I am very conflicted about investing in this camera over the much higher priced fx3. However, the price is so darn favorable to add this to my gear. I would love any current fx30 owners opinions regarding this. Is the low light performance more than good enough? Is this the direction to go over the fx3?
the camera is fine in lowlight - but you will get noise in dim conditions compared to the FX3. I think for video, apsc vs full frame is not much of an issue (unless talking about very lowlight). many cinema cameras are apsc - canon c70, most Arri Alexas, and Some of the RED’s. I think the fx30 is more than enough and the image quality is indistinguishable in most situations compared to the fx3 - and it’s less than half the price and most of the lenses are much cheaper too, the FX3 is amazing, but I would try the fx30 and see if it does everything you want.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Hi again! Thanks so much for your reply. Your comments definitely mirror the many I've seen, and the various videos watched. I appreciate your additional insight
Digital cameras started in APSC format and a lot of 4K recordings were done on even smaller sensors. The FX3 is in another class when it comes to low light video however, for what most people are shooting, the FX30 will work fine. Being new to Sony, I had my doubts about the low light performance but, my purchase was for use in daylight. Boy, was I surprised with the performance when I used it in low light. I then tried out the Cine EI in low light, the results were better than I expected! I posted a video of the test I did with it, you can check that out to see the low light performance.
@@Dnest10 Congrats on the FX3. I almost picked one up but like the A7IV, I didn't like the small screen. I ended up trying out the A7RV, then purchased it a couple days later. Now, I'm all in on Sony, I sold the rest of my Nikon gear to offset the cost.
The 250% shot of your handsome face scared my cat so bad she's been under the bed for hours. Could you give a little more warning when you do that? Good comparison video. Cheers
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Haha I mean it as a compliment 😂 Anyways great video btw. Even if I don't have the financial conditions to buy any of those cameras now, your presentation and video quality made with watch the entire video ❤️ Keep Going 🙌

Hm to me the crappy a7c looks better somehow. Its the same sensor as it is in a73 and panasonic s5. Really a great sensor, sadly a7c does not have 10 bit amongst many other Things
Being invested in Sony APSC now, and based on the price of these bodies, I would either wait for a more photocentric version of the FX30, or a A7Cii with better ergonomics and the A7iv 33mb sensor. Or I would stretch my budget and simply get the A7iv. It really ticks so many boxes, where these other 2 introduce slightly annoying compromises: lack of EVF, no mechanical shutter, 24mb sensor not good with apsc lenses for photos, no front dial… For a few hundreds buck more, the A7iv is 99% satisfaction. “Buy it nice, or buy it twice” (I like this catch phrase)
I did in the studio do that in the studio with the A7C in crop mode. But you can’t use the same lens at the same focal length in the same position with a full frame Vs an APs-C camera. 16 is a 24mm field of view equivalent on apsc. You have to go into apsc mode to use a an apsc lens on a full frame. which is what I did in the studio. But it’s not fair to compare the apsc mode on a full frame only - you want to see the full frame camera used as a full frame camera.. If you use a full frame on both - you aren’t getting the best out of the lens and sensor of the apsc. make sense?
Both are rather bad. I own a7c. Too tight space between lens and handle just pain to hold. Super bad codec for video. FX30 is cropped and crippled, only codec is good
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I just note that both has serious problems, which two 2500 cameras like Sony a7 IV, Canon r6m2 has no. Some people may spend more and buy really good hybrid camera, I'd personally do this. I bought a7c when there were no these alternatives. I am dissapointed by it. _For those who doesn't need much good continious autofocus - Panasonic s5, Fuji X-t3/4 are also an option_

@@waynerm002 thanks so much for this detailed response. I ended up going with the FX3. I’ll be sure to check out the video as well
@@Dnest10 Congrats on the FX3.
Cheers
She’s just under there trying to devise a way to look as handsome
Am I the only one who thinks that he looks like Christopher Nolan with this haircut?
🤣you are not - unfortunately I hear this a lot
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Haha I mean it as a compliment 😂
Anyways great video btw. Even if I don't have the financial conditions to buy any of those cameras now, your presentation and video quality made with watch the entire video ❤️
Keep Going 🙌
These are the cameras I'm using at this point. :) and the ZV1 is always in my backpack. I love em all. I don't name them like some people do. But I'm not here to judge ;)
It's OK - I'll name it for you. Freddy, Alfie, and Zeus. You're welcome.
Hm to me the crappy a7c looks better somehow. Its the same sensor as it is in a73 and panasonic s5. Really a great sensor, sadly a7c does not have 10 bit amongst many other Things
The A7C is still very capable for sure
Being invested in Sony APSC now, and based on the price of these bodies, I would either wait for a more photocentric version of the FX30, or a A7Cii with better ergonomics and the A7iv 33mb sensor. Or I would stretch my budget and simply get the A7iv. It really ticks so many boxes, where these other 2 introduce slightly annoying compromises: lack of EVF, no mechanical shutter, 24mb sensor not good with apsc lenses for photos, no front dial… For a few hundreds buck more, the A7iv is 99% satisfaction. “Buy it nice, or buy it twice” (I like this catch phrase)
yes, if i got rid of very camera. own and could only keep one - it’s the A7iv
should have use the same lens for comparison
I did in the studio do that in the studio with the A7C in crop mode. But you can’t use the same lens at the same focal length in the same position with a full frame Vs an APs-C camera. 16 is a 24mm field of view equivalent on apsc. You have to go into apsc mode to use a an apsc lens on a full frame. which is what I did in the studio. But it’s not fair to compare the apsc mode on a full frame only - you want to see the full frame camera used as a full frame camera.. If you use a full frame on both - you aren’t getting the best out of the lens and sensor of the apsc. make sense?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis good take. would like to see A7C &FX3 comparison.
Believe me the FX30 makes you look like Edward Norton
Now that one I have heard before - and I’m ok with it 🤣🤣
Fx30 looks more robust in overall ways
a7c has better video quality.
Am i the only one? or that you really look like Christopher nolan
so ice I am told several times a day - I can safely say that you are not the only one 🤣
sony fx 30 win
Both are rather bad. I own a7c. Too tight space between lens and handle just pain to hold. Super bad codec for video. FX30 is cropped and crippled, only codec is good
i think they look great - what would be a good camera in your eyes at this price
_For those who doesn't need much good continious autofocus - Panasonic s5, Fuji X-t3/4 are also an option_
these two machine can't compare your new hair cut!
💇♂️💇♂️🤣
Those eyebrows are out of control Mark.
They have a mind of their own
I can now say that ff is not that much more lol omg I’m dead
