Watching this back in 82 is what made me join a snooker club, in 86 I was old enough to order alcohol at the bar, many nights spent at the bar, playing snooker and feeding my wages into the club slot machines. No, I was useless at the game, but I enjoyed the environment, the family atmosphere, twice a week my friends and I would stay until the small hours of the morning or until the owners kicked us out . That was what it was like in the 80’s. It’s all a bit sterilised and commercial now. RIP Alex, you gave me and many other youngsters an outlet and something to belong to. You will never know how you helped me and others like me. Legend 😎
I persuaded my dad to buy me a 6 foot snooker table after watching this, sadly never got that good but it made me love and appreciate the game even more. RIP Alex, you were a one off.
I watched it several times so far and never felt bored. It's all the magic that is surrounded by the Legend Alex Higgins.... I love you Alex....if there is any snooker player who is remembered till this universe ends, then it's the Legend Alex Higgins
RIP Ray Reardon. We lost another Legendary Gentleman today. As an ageing proud Ulster woman I have really fond memories of this Snooker Final. I'd also like to mention the wonderful commentary of Ted Lowe. How brilliant he also was. "For those of you watching in black & white, the pink is next to the green"
I just adore the way he totally ignores the promoters and the trophy as soon as he sees his daughter coming to him and didn't let her go 'till he had to. Big emotional moment.
Yeah, and he was the first person to do that after a victory in just about any sport.. after that it became the norm to bring your family over after winning
And you will never see Characters like this ever again playing snooker with flared shirts and drinking double vodkas half pissed up smoking like a chimney and just making the game look fun and entertaining. You was the governor Alex God bless you . X
Still brings tears to my eyes even after all these years. Wow What characters they were and none bigger than this mercurial Irishman. RIPP ALEX YOUR LEGEND REMAINS INTACT
Agree mate... its like all sport, music etc has been ruled by money and image so nobody takes risk anymore or being themselves just in case it upset somebody
Absolutely, very very natural player as well. Understandably outshone in natural ability by dear Alex (who isn't! Some might say Ronnie...I'd beg to differ), but Reardon is an extremely gifted player, and a wonderful man. I have to admit as a late Gen Xer I really didn't have the opportunity to see him compete. But I did see him numerous times on Big Break, as well as the odd clip otherwise. Outstanding, very quick both in general play and in intelligent play. Frankly an extremely terrific Snooker player, understandable that he won six World Championship titles. Like you, I'd LAP UP more video's of Reardon, I guess the era in which he was in his prime would be considered _Lost Media_ 😕.Let us hope some of it at least resurfaces eventually. Surely the Beeb must have _some_ footage in its dusty vaults?

I used to love watching him play, he always had me right on the edge of my seat, all his twitching and mannerisms made me fear he would miss every shot, of course he generally didn't which was great. He kind of was snooker for me, there is no other player I would rather watch there was always an electric atmosphere when he played.
I've seen many interviews with Alex and to be fair I have only seen him twitch a couple of times so I don't quite understand your comment in regards to missing every shot I see him twitching off the snooker table but never on it
I dont understand how anyone with any kind of HUMANITY CAN THUMBS DOWN THIS MOVING ENJOYABLE & HEART WARMING ALSO A TEAR OR TWO OF MISSING THIS LEGEND ON THIS VIDEO. WHAT A SAD SAD SUB HUMAN PERSON YOU ARE.
His finest achievement and an iconic moment in sport. Comparing this moment to his previous victory ten years previously, how much the profile of snooker had been raised in that time and how much of that was due to Alex, surely makes this his finest moment and one that guarantees the immortality of snooker. Nicely done. Gone but never forgotten.
He wass and iss the reason why many peoples began to play snooker, real legend and genius at the table, and thats what counts, in the end 😥,may you rest in peace, great peopleschampion ❤
The 30th frame of the semi and the final frame of the '82 Final were not sport, they were Fine Art. Higgins was a genius - a seriously flawed genius, but a genius nevertheless.
Wow amazing to watch this. Higgins a true genius & so emotional in the end with his family, touching. The high point of his life. Ray Reardon what a legend & absolute tip top gentlemen. Utter class. It's a joke he was never knighted like a few snooker players but they knight other people who are so ill deserved in my opinion. Ty for upload :-)
A genius, if a fragile one. I still remember watching the final live; and the moment when the exhausted Higgins beckons for his baby still chokes me up. At the time, for a few seconds, we wondered what on earth he was asking for.
That first red for the black. Perfect and in those days 1. Nobody else could have done it and 2. Nobody else would have seen it never mind try it. Yes he was 2 frames up at 17-15 but that is not a luxury against Ray Readon who beat him in '76. Also it is still the highest break of a final frame in the WSC even today.
wow...i'm nearly crying...my dad loved snooker and i thought i'd watch this match and see how i felt...what a game!! every single shot of higgins was absolute gold...he was just flying round the table...barely a ball brushed it's feet on the way into the pocket...just straight in!! and his face when he won...such emotion...amazing...!! anyone recommend some good games to watch? are there any recordings of higgins losing it?? people keep saying he was a bit scary at times...
I cried with him ....awe you can see how much it meant to him. What a talent to be able to do that and in the final. Nerves of steel. To see everyone pleased for him was lovely. Amazing final. Alex will never be forgotten ☺ 20th January 2020

I remember watching this when it happened. I miss Alex, met him once at Sheffield, having a drink with Cliff Thorburn in the hotel, Alex walks by and we invite him for a drink , "Eff off !" was his reply lol. He was such a character eh. RIP mate.
I came here because the announcer at this years WC said with a Robertson shot against John Higgins this was like the Clearance of 82. Just that . So I typed those words ,numbers and here I found a remarkable player.
@@UnleashTheGreen how weird would it look if the players of today smoked like that during matches and got drunk with vodka or johnny Walker on the table next to where they sit.
