During the time when it snowed in Kyoto, did the local news make a big thing about it where they station several reporters in different areas and talk about the danger of snow/ice and how to walk safely about?? Tokyo does that.
I saw some of the reporting on tv about the dangers reported FROM those dangerous areas, lol. But in Kyoto it was mostly pretty mild and the exciting reporting was from other areas. Still confused on how basically no salt was thrown down or really any preparations seemed to have been made??? Still slipping on ice on the sidewalks.
Hi! Snow in Kyoto (at least in the city proper) is pretty unusual and only comes in small amounts. I think it's more likely for snow in January/February.
Snow falling in Kyoto city is a rare occurrence, a precious image that occurs only a few times a year, every year. As you can see, many parts of Kyoto remain as they were in the past, so the streets are still narrow in many places. It is said that it was 794 A.D. when the emperor moved the capital to Kyoto and built the capital”HEIAN-Kyo(the capital of named PEACE), so the city has existed here for about 1,230 years until now, and people back then saw this scenery in the winter season just as you do now. The history of Japan is very old, about 2,000 years since the Emperor's reign, but humans began to live in villages and communities in this island nation about 14,000 years ago, during “the Jomon pottery” culture. (That's 30,000 years ago, if you count the Neolithic period.) Japan's original country name "NIPPON”(Japan) means "the land under the sun" , but another name is "YAMATO(WA)” , meaning “Peacefully Harmony among People and Nature”. So Japan's name means “the Land under the Sun” and” the Land of "Great Harmony of People and Nature,” Surrounded on all sides by the sea and geographically isolated from the Eurasian continent in the Pacific Ocean, this island nation has a warm and humid climate and is blessed with abundant underground clear water resources, diverse vegetation, and fishery resources. For this reason, people have lived here for tens of thousands of years, enjoying nature and living in peace with it. However, while the natural environment of this island nation is rich, it is also harsh, with both light and dark sides. Since ancient times, the people of this land have lived in peace by respecting human harmony and working together as a group, and have shared and enjoyed the blessings of nature by overcoming many harsh and severe natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and typhoons by sharing wisdom and working together as a group. This is because this island nation has a harsh natural environment that cannot be overcome by the power of one individual. The ancient Japanese name of the country, "Yamato" or "Wa" (great harmony and peace)、 represents the desire and reality of people trying to survive in the unique natural environment of an island nation, which is different from the dry and stable land of the Eurasian continent. And it is in this ancient Japanese country name that the essence of Japanese culture and the source and secret of the emergence of a unique Japanese culture different from the cultures of other Asian countries on the continent are hidden.
